THE LATE GREAT GOD GIFTED BRENDAN BOWYER OF WATERFORD CITY IRELAND 🇮🇪 AND LAS VEGAS U S A BRENDAN WAS A FANTASIC SINGER MUSICIAN ENTERTAINER AND A TRUE MODEST IRISH GENTLEMAN I HAD THE GREAT PRIVILEDGE OF KNOWING BRENDAN SINCE THE 60S THANK YOU BRENDAN FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL SPECIAL HAPPY GOLDEN MEMORIES THROUGHOUT THE DECADES BRENDAN BOWYER OCTOBER 12TH 1938 TO MAY 28TH 2020 R I P AMEN ❤
There won't be another like him. We don't get these type of songs, much these days. None of the country and Irish singers, can sing in this style. The Irish music scene was a hell of a lot better in the 60's and 70's, when the showbands were around. They are badly needed today.
I couldn't agree more Michael. I was born in 1993, but the seventies is by far my favourite musical decade. For me it's summed up by Colm Wilkinson's song at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, "Born To Sing". Those who perform in this style were indeed born to sing and they prove it every time they do so. I'm one such singer and Colm and Brendan are two of my musical heroes. Sadly there isn't much of an audience for it these days, but I'm determined to give it a go. I'm proud to be one of those continuing the great Waterford musical tradition along with the likes of David Flynn and Richie Hayes, two of my mentors. Richie's father Dick was another great exponent of it before his sudden passing on St. Stephen's Day 2019. Just the previous morning he had performed at Christmas Day mass at the Sacred Heart Church (The Folly). I had the pleasure to see all of the above bar Colm in concert there with the Waterford Massed Bands a few years ago. Colm is no stranger to the Déise either though. He was a regular at Katie Reilly's (The Halfway House) early in his career and a few years back he paid tribute to another Waterford great, the late Denny Corcoran, at our majestic Theatre Royal. In my opinion Brendan Bowyer is the finest singer Waterford has ever produced. Val Doonican and Gilbert O'Sullivan have done the city proud in their respective genres, but as a singer of ballads, belters and standards, Brendan was without match. I sorely regret not seeing him perform at the Tall Ships Races in 2011 as I went to see the big act on the main stage instead because I was covering the festival for Tramore Community Radio. The only time I ever saw him was on a very wet afternoon on Grattan Square in Dungarvan. His daughter Aisling carried the performance as Brendan wasn't a young man at that stage and quite understandably the cold damp weather was affecting his voice. It's very touching to see her watching him so proudly in this video. I've just discovered that Brendan gave one of his final interviews to my friend and colleague Rose Butler, who has uploaded it here: czcams.com/video/jrF7NUuw6AM/video.html
First heard this great song sung professionally over 50 years ago, since then I,ve heard dozens of singers sing it but truly none of them do it Justice as Brendan Bowyer does,he sings it with a passion and feeling that none of them could Match.one of my all time favourites,,,,,,,
The wife and I managed to get into Fitzgeralds in Vegas years ago. Brendan was preforming there. I had never heard of him up to that time. He sang "How Great Thou Art". Gave me goose bumps. At one of his breaks I felt obligated to tell him my favorite Irish jokes. Him and the whole band cracked up. He congratulated me on my Irish brogue. I've looked high and low for that song by him, never found it. I'll close by saying, God Bless you Brendan.
I must admit when as a 14 year old I moved back to Limerick City in 1964 with my parents I thought showbands were really corny especially Brendan Bowye!.How wrong I was. What a voice what a performer!!!.Incredible version of one the great Irish songs.God bless him.
Thanks for uploading. I was born and grew up near Boulavogue and would hear this song so many times. Its part of Wexford history and no better singer than Brendan, one of the best singers ever.
This song always brings a tear to my eyes. Reminds me of my late Mother God rest her soul. What a voice. God bless you all who are no longer here with us. Love and miss you all xx
Yep, put on a uniform and fight like a man. Or, alternatively, put on a balaclava and plant bombs that kill women and kids, whilst controlling all the criminal enterprises like a small town Mafia. IRA - I ran away.
