    The future is now, but it sent all us back to school. In the BIOS era the issues where in MBR, OS or software bugs. Today, we added UEFI, not as a solution for that.

    Great presentation,the thing that the speaker has not English as native language makes it a bit "buggy" ,nevertheless he is giving all the required information(and more than needed) so you can understand the differences,and this is the point of it.

  • @b44rt

    @Bryan S. I think he means a specification in UEFI being a specification of the implementation. It is true that UEFI and BIOS are diffrent implementations. But UEFI being the specification for manufacturers to make their own implementation.
    Not 100% so anyone correct me if I am wrong.

      UEFI came with the motherboard so the UEFI BIOS and Legacy BIOS functions should be the same if your Motherboard Model supported UEFI.

      make certain of your usb settings in UEFI-bios also check to see if your SSD can be seen in the UEFI-bios(you could also apply more secure and safe settings with ACHI-- etc). now when you reboot your PC press f11 or whatever key that allows your to go to UEFI boot menu and select the drive your want to insall win7 on--- not the drive that contains win 7 OS(usb). lemme me if it works... not an expert but had similar problem so i goofed around a little and this is what i came up with... cheers

      Mark Gyan As far as i know in order to downgrade win8 to 7 you need to go to BIOS and change UEFI to Legacy, lately with my research i have noticed that only win8 originaly made to for with UEFI Not win7, However you can search the web to edit and modify the boot on the win7 boot folder to fix this issue that i know microsoft has the HOTFIX for it but i didnt bother doing that all i did i changed it to legacy and downgrade to win7

    Wow, I left IBM (server hardware side) in 2009 and went to work on the server OS side with Red Hat (Linux guy's). My pal worked Intel's Iitanium and we all thought it was a losing technology. But now I see that the UEFI part lived on with Microsoft's Windows 8 and up (I am running Windows 10 on a test server) . When I left Red Hat in 2013 I recall that there was an ongoing discussion on implementing UEFI in the Linux community.
    I guess UEFI won? So how do I boot to a bootable Linux DVD and bypass startup on Windows 8 ... smile!

    Unclear: BOOT MANAGER (LOADER?) is on the motherboard (16:17)?
    afaik: GRUB in Linux, OSL2000 are software, independent of the motherboard.
    It is unclear here what UEFI includes: firmware on the motherboard alone, or software of the users choice afterwards.

  • @lorenzo501
    @lorenzo501 Před 8 lety +1

    They better stop building walls around everything.. Because making users unable to install previous versions or other operating systems is kinda low.. It's either that or every computer should include the option to turn UEFI off. >_

    If you notice, windows 8 pressed UEFI hardcore. In fact, some Hardware Manufacturers like HP decided to not even offer a legacy boot option (because EVERYONE loves Windows 8 to death, right?) Ubuntu had to create a UEFI boot version just to be able to compete, and CD/DVD and USB are conveniently locked under legacy boot, in other words; you have to use an archaic external USB cd/dvd drive just to put another UEFI compatible OS on the computer. They are forcibly trying to assert this garbage on a new generation of users, and restrict at the same time the freedom of using whatever you want. It is not the hardware developers job to manage piracy; it is their job to produce working hardware that can be used with a wide variety of operating systems. They need to stop getting in bed Microsoft; no matter how much money lines their pockets, Microsoft only wants to shut out its competitors. More than ever, you will see Microsoft take forcible means with the cooperation of hardware manufacturers to ensure they custom tailor all UEFI based systems to only support Microsoft based operating systems.

  • @jasonking44
    @jasonking44 Před 11 lety

    Even if the BIOS was 8bit, so fucking what. BIOS just needs a few seconds to initialize handware then it passes over control to the OS. There is no need for any fucking mini OS between the hardware and main OS. Assembler makes it harder for the hackers, C/C++ makes it easier, so what was a rarity, ie bootblock viruses will now be more proliferant and in fact, the hackers will probably compete aginst each other now to make the best bootblock viruses whereas before they wouldnt have bothered.

    • @muffemod

      Anything can be hacked including the Legacy BIOS but it is more likely that hacking your BIOS is a waste of time... If I was going to hack something then I'd rather hack Google, Facebook, twitter or anything that is online than that of your PC's motherboard.

    Yes, whats the eye candy for? You are only supposed to mess around in BIOS for intial setup and after that you never see it for a long time... And worse, with UEFI there is a real possibility of bricking your PC, that is fucking ridiculous. There should NEVER be any instances where the user cannot access the BIOS/UEFI BIOS menu. BIOS options should never change ie missing F2/F8 DEL options. Stupid..
