I salute every single transgender person who has come before. They paved the way for a very close friend of mine to be able to come out as transgender recently. I'm so glad she will have the support network there to help her be on the outside what she has always been on the inside. These incredible people made this possible.

I’m a 20 year old who wanted to know how people handled transition back then. I had a rough life for a while but I’m happy things have changed for us to live (for the most part) peacefully. Thank you guys for this video.
There were a fair number of trans people on talk shows during the 1970s and even 1960s. I remember trans women on extremely mainstream programs like "The Mike Douglas Show" and "Merv Griffin" and they were not treated as freaks (although, perhaps to be pitied). The trans-people-as-freaks presentation started with Jerry Springer, Maury Povich and other programs like that.
Rather sadly, I think there is still a very great generational separation within the trans community.

ABSOLUTELY!! OMG, I was eleven years old before I knew there was anyone else on Earth like me! And I only found out because I had told a therapist about me liking to dress up like a girl, and she used a word on me which is now taboo (transvestite) (bear in mind this was 1982) - and me, the precocious youth was looked up the word in the dictionary (there was no Internet or Google back then) - AND I FOUND IT.
This let me know, by inference...that I was not the only person in the world like me, because here there was, a word in the dictionary...and I had never before told anyone about me. That meant there was at least one person out there like me...and my mission in life became - FIND HER!! It was not until I was nineteen...I met another trans person (and bear in mind it had never even occurred to me then that there might be transMEN...because you never heard about it...and my own thought process was like...ewww, who wants to be a boy?)
I met the first trans woman other than myself when I was nineteen...by placing an ad in one of those old "variations" publications that used to exist.
Later, I obtained my therapy notes from 1982, and in it was written "...does knot know whether he wants to become a man or a woman..." which was as fat as they would go back then - I had made it pretty clear that I in fact wanted to become a woman. Incidentally, in 1982, Webster's Unabridged Dictionary defined "transvestism" as - "the act or state of being dressed as a member of the opposite sex" - and "transvestite" was defined as "one who suffers from transvestism." - and my first thought was "who the fuck says I am suffering?? Holyshit, the only time I am HAPPY is when I am dressed like a girl!!"
THAT is the world I came into as a young trans woman. I was born in 1971, and came out in 1993....transitioned full time in 1997. In 1990, a young scared nineteen year old trans girl was accosted in the streets of Phillipsburg, NJ by eight cops who made fun of her...and pulled her dress up right there in the public street. The young, scared nineteen year old trans girl was me.
Transvestic fetishism is someone like Virginia Prince. A transsexual is Tula Cossey. They should have never allowed the first group to erase and overspeak the 2nd.
I remember feeling the “I’m the only one in the world” feeling. Times have changed. Thankfully. Back then there was no CZcams etc. I was legit 17 years old and thought I was all by myself.

That’s the point… we are all trying our best to make sure that in the future transgender youth can have it much easier and perhaps not be ostracized by society
I think so much has changed in the past 100 years that it's incomparable, honestly. I didn't live through it, but it just sounds like a different universe when I hear about the 30s or 40s.

There were *ancient* (trans) *people* in *Africa,* the *motherland, millions of years ago* and *were already accepted* as *their true gender identity* or *sexual orientation.* The reason why past generations and present generations still have it hard is because of the false narratives created and hidden because of pale-skinned Caucasians who are also descendants of Asians who are descendants of Africans. Society is getting worse because a lot of you "woke adults" are still purposely brainwashed/indoctrinated fools. That was the plan, centuries ago, leading up to now and in the so-called future.
Great to learn more about this. Personally, my first impulse is to empathize with humans as humans, whatever their perceived identity is. Empathy should make one resist the urge to categorize and judge humans.

I transitioned in 1976 in the uk.yes it was very different and challenging and scary.but we carried on because it’s what we wanted.I’m now 63 .it brings it all back.
If I hadn't known there were others like me I would be dead now.
I dread to think this happened all the time before surgery was a thing.

By the way, i forgot to mention, I first learned of transsexuals from a column in Ann Landers (older gen folks like me will remember Ann Landers) - and I knew I had not written in...but, reading the letter, I was floored....because I was like, "OH MY GOD THIS IS ME!!!"
I also wrote my parents a letter and they were very chill about it
I took my final third year English course at local community college. My Professor study in semiotics and Arron Davor was one of many journals papers pass out. The course debates of how Men differ and stereotype body language especially many men from North America 🇺🇸. My dysphoria was at it highest I was hearing others students laughing and rightly identifying and hyper masculinity filled the air. I’m transgender and return to college at 56 this class had me practically in tears. The conversation continue a whole week about long history family constructs. Instead of feeling out of place and my Professor was very athletic man and very masculine. I decided to own my worth and speak up about my transgender construct life. Few students know Im transgender and I own it! Although I was detest the topic and almost at one point to drop the class. However, something inside me said NO! Final week approach I had to write a 4 year college rectorial essay based on our 9 weeks journals / reports and 3 books. I went all in and read everything. I wanted to use quote data in Arron Devor book. But, I notice something different I research old data of Arron Devor and I couldn’t for life of me find his early data all I got was a woman Professor last name Devor I forget her first name. It took three days to research and I found that Arron Devor book was written in the 1980. I kept getting a woman name and last name I figure it must be his wife . Until I found that Arron Devor was a transexual Female to Male . And his data was written in the 1970 before his translation. I knew i was on to something bigger than the entire class. I had to call him. My in-depth research not only gave me hope and nothing I have done before contacting the author and used that data in my rectorial essay which all student must speak before the class as a lecture power point essay. I got a A and blow away the entire class and my Professor jaw drop when I told the story! I got applause thanks to Arron Devor for responding to my email! 😂 i had more than power in numbers

i came out at 48 after a lifetime in the closet...it was the best thing ive ever done and wished id done it years ago , but it was different times ..my life would have been so much better but ive had a great time over the last 15 years ..well i was before covid .its kinda fucked up my life a bit...
This *"coming out"* issue is just another way of being brainwashed. There are books, articles, websites that have already proven the existence of *ancient* (trans) *people,* beginning in *Africa* (the *motherland).* The *Igbo tribe* was/is a *prime example.* Said people were already accepted as being gay/lesbian or straight. It's a damned shame that a lot of "woke adults" still don't know facts, reality, and truth in the 21st century.
I'm 60 and only realized and or discovered that there were others like me out there several years ago. Finally trying to become myself fully but feel like I started the race to late to finish. Not willing to drop out of it though, I still need to attempt to reach closer to the finish line even if I don't succeed.

Im glad i can just exist. It took me 25 years to come out and say the words , im a "trans sexual woman." I had known i was gay and liked men, but i didnt see a life as a gay male. I couldnt envision a life past 21, it just felt agonizing to go on living this empty existence where i couldnt be myself. Thank god for these brave women

I wouldn't think I was an unimaginable freak because I respect myself enough to know that my feelings were legitimate. I think that so many of us want to fit into and that is the problem. Maybe we're not supposed to fit in.
When I was younger been trans was not really talked about and brushed under the carpet. I lived in a very rough area so I was scared to come out and I didn't know much about it I thought I was gay but I know now that I was trans and have been since I was young but I repressed these feelings and didn't come out until in my late 40s

I recall the hideous process a trans person went through in order to obtain surgery. The psych portion consisted of many becoming institutionalized. Those 70s were still influenced by the times that preceded them and I knew a few who underwent all that pain to reach their goal. They had a strength to match their purpose.

Back when I was born in the 80'os, when the man on here says it was on tv, I only heard of this on one episode of a show of 90210 when Steve met one, but that was the only show. It's sad of these guys back in the 50'os not getting the help they needed, they needed CBT therapy, not HRT or anything that was around that time. It's so weird it was illegal back then but now fully accepted by the government to get ID's that say they are the opposite sex, only on the card it doesn't say what they previously were, just who they are now.
well, in middle east countries two letter below this are still thrown out of buildings, so there are places where its still illegal... but what was illegal in Weimar Germany, ect. was homosexuality, as transvestites were considered that.
Operations to transition someone were death sentences and hormone injections were not discovered until recently.

The obsession targeting youth and the use of puberty blockers is disturbing. This focus undermines the progress that is required in this area to support those who truly understand a transition is essential , and all the life changing implications that come with that decision. You cant make an informed decision when you cant really comprehend what you don’t know or understand, especially as this relates to sexuality and human development. This is the fallacy of applying affirmative care to youth and adolescents. People should listen to the voice of Prisha Mosley and the many like her. This is a trans-survivor who before she was 18, had her breasts removed because she was looking for happiness: “When you break it down, I decided that I didn’t want to be a women before I had ever experienced being a women. I had no idea what being a women was like, because I was a child”. Listen to her because there are many more that chose to take their own lives rather than deal with the shame, personal torment rather than find the strength to guide others away from decisions they cant possibly comprehend. Her experiences are even more profound when you contrast this with the words of “the” Rachel Levine, “If I had transitioned when I was young, then I wouldn’t have my children. I can’t imagine a life without my children.” Let that sink in, it is a profound statement for someone in the US government who advocates for “affirmative care” for adolescence and for a path leading to affirming transgender surgery. Levine demonstrates what is possible in life without seducing unsuspecting children to live with regrets. RIP: Pina Neuman (31), Xavier Raddysh (23), Lilja Tamasin Johanna Bruckshaw (24), Henry Berg-Brousseau, Kayleigh Scott, Vanessa Vincenzo Barrett, Yaeli Martinez and many, many other trans people lost far to young to this movement.
Yes, this video doesn't show it has gotten so much worse, now people are identifying as wild animals or myth characters. We have children as young as 2 on puberty blockers without experiencing what breast feel like or getting their periods, this is not ok, it's child abuse and dangerous to children and adults alike who are the opposite sex!
