  • Catherine Tate paid tribute to Victoria Wood on 'Bruce's Hall of Fame with Alexander Armstrong', singing 'The Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let's Do It)'.
    Additional info:
    1. The video is out of sync, sorry about that.
    2. She is DEFINITELY singing, but not playing the piano herself.

    This reminds me of the version that the Doctor Who cast did back when Russel T Davis was leaving the show (along with David Tennant, Julie Gardner and several others I think) and they did a rewrite of it called 'The Ballad Of Russel And Julie' and Catherine did the 'Let's do it' part and David did the 'I can't do it' part and John Barrowman did the narration and I absolutely loved it lol

    The smile on her face after the bow she did when finished singing. That's the smile that came from her deepest self. The smile of the young girl who olny dreamed about once being what she is now. The smile that is pure happieness. A true smile of feeling amazing.

    The Ballad Of Barry And Freda is a bloody difficult song to do, and Catherine does an admirable job on her cover version. Nothing touches Victoria's various versions, obviously, but Ms. Tate gave it a right old go, and should be very proud.

      It isn't a difficult song to do - it's following someone who did it so brilliantly that's the difficulty. Nobody could do it better than Victoria Wood and Catherine's valiant attempt is commendable but sadly way off the mark.

    To all the ppl complaining that shes faking the piano...shes doing a tribute. They literally showed Victoria Wood playing the piana while doing this song so you can see thats obviously why they made the decision to put catherine in front of the piano. Not to make her out to have a talent she doesnt have

    Well sung Catherine, can't be too many people on the planet who could/should even attempt that song.
    From the "published" date, this performance must have been some time before Victoria passed. I so hope she saw it. I'm certain she would have approved.

      I doubt it. It was painfully obvious she wasn't playing the piano so I can't understand why she poorly attempted to mime that she was. Should have just sung the song.

      @@rnw2739 she was miming playing the piano?

    • @rnw2739
      @rnw2739 Před 2 lety +1

      @@kldc2156 Yes. Your question reads as though you think this an impossibility. All she has to do is sit at the piano and move her hands on the keys in time to the backing track of Victoria Woods piano playing and if the camera does not film her hands on the keys (as it doesn't) then she is miming playing the piano. Every piano player ever recorded on film from Elton John to Les Dawson, has been clearly shown the notes they are playing and any pianist (of which I am one) can tell that a mile off.
