    Never done the simulation but i did 8 hours in that chamber after an accident on my elbow and a build up of nitro at the damaged area after a fall. Super fantastic staff at the facility and all very well experienced divers themselves.

    I was sat in the exact seat you were last Thursday evening! A group of us from Corby BSAC (CADSAC) had a session in the pot. I hope you enjoyed the dive!

    Beyond the experience, what is the practical purpose of this?

    • @UKDiver
      @UKDiver  Před rokem +2

      Hey Graham. I think from a practical viewpoint its good to know what Narcosis really feels like at depth, so you're prepared for it underwater. Yes, on the pot dive it's all giggles at silly voices, but it's the brain fog that's the serious bit. I've done a few of these and I can tell you that at depth on air, you're just not as with it as you normally are - Nowhere near. Things that are simple to do normally become very difficult when narked - Bad decisions are easy to make because they are easy and just the amount of time it can take to even think things through is much longer. Knowing that, for me, it demonstrates the importance of A: not doing deep dives on air, and B: making sure shutdown drills etc are fluid and automatic to reduce the thinking time / requirement to think about it as you simply can't rely too much on your brain under these conditions. So the experience IS the practical purpose if you get what I mean, I hope that helps!!

    As always Andy very interesting video. £40 that’s a bargain. Will keep that in mind if I am ever down in that area 👍

    Did this years back, need to do it again.
    When I did the alphabet task, I couldn’t work out the separation in the numbers - lost colour vision! IE, I saw your 15 and read it as 1 and 5.
    Really interesting to know what happens to the brain under narcosis

      I started off okay, but as we spent more and more time at 50, my brain just got foggier and foggier 😬 Was good fun and like you say, interesting to see how everyone was different. Will be organising another for after the dove season for those that couldn’t make this one. Sign up to the website mailing list and I’ll let you know when I book it 👍

    Are these chambers safe. And has there been any serious medical research done into long term effects on the human body..

    • @UKDiver
      @UKDiver  Před rokem +1

      Erm… these chambers are used to treat DCI. So yes, they are safe. As for long term effects, this isn’t something you do every week and it’s exactly the same as doing a dive to 50m, that’s the whole point. As I said in the video, at the end of the dive, due to the deco on O2, you leave the pot with less nitrogen in you then when you started. Hope this helps!
