How to be spotted as Loss Prevention/How to be a good LP Daily Vlog

- Today's video goes over a bad experience dealing with a Loss Prevention Agent, whose lack of training upset me and left me feeling uncomfortable about shopping at my neighborhood Walmart. But its not all negative, I also use the experience to go over some do's and don'ts for being an agent, and give some advice to agents who are struggling in their role.
Remember to like, comment, and subscribe, but above all else, remember to treat others as you would want them to treat you. - Jak na to + styl
I used to go in stores just to draw these guys out and identify them. They're so easy to spot. I never stole from a store, but it was a bit funny getting them worked up.
That is what I do lol then I go up to them and ask about their productd
*products
So, y'all are the creepy guys following me and my best friends with our small children around the stores??? Creeping us tf out, or are those just literal stalkers???
wHY WOULD YOU DO THAT.
u need to get a life lol
All horror stories begin with "so I was at Walmart..."
You might be on to something...
🤣😂😂dude, we were unfortunately just at Wal-Mart....and you are correct.
😂🤣😂🤣😭😭😭
Lol lol
Synonymous with “Here, Hold my Beer 🍺”!!! Lol
The one at my Walmart in Florida walks around with a empty blue basket for an hour
They do that here too. You see the same person everytime you go too lol.
I worked as an LP for a distribution center when I started out. I'm making the transfer to stores now. As a 20 year old I have a lot to prove. Id never ever walk around with an empty basket. That just seems stupid haha
Charles Carter haha! Like aren’t they given money?
@@redevous Idk lol. Evidently not. They look and act so obvious lol.

I can always tell who works in loss prevention. They have a look and act like if they are shopping then later you see them talking to employees and body language.
Street steel seriously ! I can spot LP so easy, even if they aren't giving off any signs I can read ppl very well.
S. D. if you stand back and pause from shopping you will see them looking at you.
Street steel I know, I don't even have to do that. They make it so obvious. If he's a good LP, u wouldn't know he was LP.
S. D. can y'all give some signs
I absolutely agree with this statement you made. When I train, I always teach my new agents, and even transferring agents that, LPs should be felt and not seen
I am going to summarize this guys long ass video into 5 things you most do as an LP, no matter which company you work for:
1. Full, 100% observation of subject.
2. Observe subject select merchandise.
3. Observe subject conceal merchandise (if applicable).
4. Observe subject bypass all pay points, all registers.
5. Observe subject exit store.
Then make apprehension.
The end.
And see them enter the department or section.
Right on.I hear you loud and clear.great acoustics in here.
Just look for the guy pretending way too hard to look like he's not Loss Prevention... they are so easy to spot
I like to look guilty and follow the theft prevtintion guys and flirt with them.
The eyes. It's all in their eyes.
You can tell who's who by the eyes.
Ajax Ashford exactly this.
I can tell you’re a marine by your eyes
Exactly what are you saying about eye recognition?
It shows in the eyes , if someone is comfortable, if they're shopping, if they're sketch, ur instincts and intuition along with visible body language and small ques...hes on the money...also sometimes l.p. have a shopping cart, and they look like a guy who would never have a shopping cart, then they have the weirdest shit that no one shops for in their shopping cart, and they move isles not shopping them but watching people...theyre so easily spotted.

I'm starting to get really frustrated with Walmart and Fred Meyer. They follow me around the store and I've never stolen anything in my life!! I am a frequent shopper and I spend lots of money at times. It's as if they have me on some face recognition camera database, but I've never stolen anything and I make a decent income. I feel like they are wasting their resources by targeting the wrong person! I'm thinking about getting a lawyer. WHY do they see me as a threat? I buy clothes for my kids, food and things I need each week. This is why I love Costco. They treat me like family.
Go ahead. Get a lawyer. Monumental waste of money. I can follow you as often as I want.

I am LP at a Walmart in Alabama. Sometimes we are shorthanded on Door people and I’m asked to fill in to give breaks or lunches. I don’t like it. It puts my job at risk because I have my regular thieves that will recognize me as being at the door. It’s a small store too.
Kroger did this to me so bad I won't shop there anymore. The thought of stealing has never even occurred to me or cross my mind, ever! Yet strange men following peering around aisles acting all mental and scaring folks is legal. Still thinking about suing. I think people who say well that's just the way it is has never been really been followed while believed to be a shoplifter by one of these maniacs. It makes you feel threatened.
thanks for all the good information bro. I'm looking to get into loss prevention so this was very helpful, thank you.
CVS got rid of there entire loss prevention department back in October 2017.
UTUBER101 why?
No they didn't
They're bringing it back.
LP are easy to spot when you’re just shopping they look suspicious checking around or someone but to a shoplifter he or she is not going to notice
One more tip. If you see a police car in the parking lot, its a free for all. LPOs are with the police and another shoplifter.
x10
Worst. Tip. Ever. My store has at least 2 people on at all hours. It only takes one to do the report and turn you over to a cop.
But please do feel free.
Lol, but seriously...is stealing when it’s really busy at peak hrs (5-8 & weekends) less likely to get caught or when it’s super dead? Bc I’ve always thought abt that.
@@cheepasskid if your professional anytime is the time. if it's busy pros conceal with customers around, employees manager cops it dont matter your not gonna see the concealment
Dan Ferguson trueeeeee
I have a friend who's been shoplifting for twenty years and he got caught only once, because he has some set of rules "I wouldn't call them laws" to abide by, some of them he told me were: Never take more than 99 dollars total worth of anything including tax, never trust anybody lurking beside you, always assume everyone in the store is a LP officer, if you think something is not right abort immediately, never ever forget to have your ID on you, do not leave the store and come back for more loot, and my favorite: do Not get GREEDY...
@Noureddine Elaroussi...shame on you...reconsider your moral compass, please!
Little does he know loss can be tracked and reviewed and it accumulates. It's a great way to build up a felony. I'm sure if its attempted now it's a straight trip to jail. Twenty years ago is different than now.
I like to bust them by asking them where I can find a certain item! The expression on their face is priceless or flat out just tell them "DONT WORRY IM NOT STEALING ANYTHING" Most of the ones at Wal Mart are goofs and totally obvious! If you get caught there you are just not to bright!
Almost every time I go to Wal-mart, Target, Marshall's, wholefoods and Safeway, an Uniformed and an undercover LP follows me around the store.
I've never steal anything in my life, I just don't know why they think I would steal something... sometimes when I'm paying at a self check out some strange reason I have to swipe my card for 3.4 times because the card reader failed.
I wonder if the store can remotely controlling the card reader to fail on purpose.
It's been like this for over 18years ever since I moved to USA.
I love it when I have nothing better to do that day/night & LP is following me around the store thinking Im going to steal something. I just purposely start walking back n forth thru the entire store deliberately making them follow me in circles. Then I get them to follow me to the KOTEX isle. I grab a box of DOUCHE & ask them for there opinion on the product. LMAO
😂😂😂
😂
That's great
LMFAO that's great!!!!
#WINNINGATLIFE 😂😂
Well with THIS level of knowledge and superiority in its customer base it’s a wonder why Walmart would even pay to staff an LP dept.
Wow! Great video! Action packed. I didn't know that being a real "LP"in a discount store required such highly trained and sophisticated secret agents. And to think that one slip of the tongue or the wrong body language could put the secret security "LP" in grave danger or at the very least could compromise His or Her undercover mission. That could result in merchandise being taken to the suspects domicile.
Domicile? Lol really rookie? U just wanted to try & let everyone know ur an mos! Or an edp?
Well said lol
If you shop often in the same store more than once a week sometimes you will see the same LP and recognize them, but they often rotate and work in other stores to try and conceal their identity, and if you see on LP there are more, usually a whole team of them lurking depending on the store, time of year, etc, at Christmas season they hire extra LP.
Man, you hit this on the head!!!! I go through this almost in any store i frequent!!! I start following them back and touch their arm like " i know who you are"! :)
I want to do this😂
@@georgeeno_2815 And it's never really them but just a random person who thinks you are crazy because you did not actually ID any loss prevention worker.

You guys ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, I thought this video was long too lol
Vicente Martinez When you upload an unedited video, no.
Remember that customer service is key, do to the fact that the loyal customer's are the one's who pay your checks, you got to be 100 percent accurate in the LP world, and only engage when you seen all the seven universal steps then you identify and go for the stop.
I recognized one in Walmart once walking all over the store with the same thing in his hands two different times in the same day so I asked him where I could find the trash bags at?
I have hundreds of tips. Also, i've set off alarm systems a few times. You are not obligated to go back into the store, you are not obligated to stop upon any request. Just keep walking. An alarm is not probable cause.
You're pretty intelligent. Do you live in the USA? Your a grown up now, you can leave the house any time want to, Danny.
Thanks man, I gave you something. Meat and vegetables cost a fortune, hey man, I can pay, but the monopoly on food is criminal. Watch the vegetable aisle too. The only things that are priced not out of the budgets of the masses are carbs. Carbs are deadly. That's why America has fatties for the poor. They can only afford the least healthy food.

My sister got caught by loss prevention! Literally 3yrs later she applied for a manager position with Walmart at a different store and got hired!!!! 🤦♀️
Lol
You definitely make some great points. At my workplace, we don’t have hired LP like Monument. We used to, but the company cut security. So we the employees have to watch and report suspicious behavior to other staff and managers.
I never ever want to make someone feel like I’m profiling them at all. But I have had times when seeing someone who I’m not 100% certain whether they’re going to shoplift or not. That’s always a frustrating situation to be in.
What I would have done if I was that LP at the Walmart you were at, if anything about you led me to feel suspicious of your behavior, I’d have asked a Walmart employee to customer service you just to get a 2nd opinion to see if you need to be watched or if my suspicions are just bogus.
That’s what I do at my job if I’m not sure about someone. Following that person around is just pointless. I’m totally open to hearing your opinion on this though.
So I work at hotels and we can call our non emergency police line and have them come out and trespass someone. So they aren't legally allowed on property. Is this something walmarts (or stores in general) would be able to do with habitual offenders? I know state laws effect things like this too. In Arkansas btw.
Great video just had a quick question what are you using to record it looks so clear..
he's in the USA we have HD. Better then a potato.
I can’t take it anymore going into Walmart with my son, I am CONSTANTLY being followed by the same men over and over. What can I do to get it to stop? I’m constantly forgetting things because I can’t focus with people following me and my 1 year old. I shop there weekly, sometimes multiple times a week. I feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Sometimes I don’t want to buy certain personal items because some random man is watching what I put in my cart. I live in a small town and walmart is one of the only places to shop. I feel trapped.
What do you look for when someone is trying to steal? How do you know if someone is going to steal when they enter the store?
same happened to me on the day I wore some raggedy clothes because I had just woke up and went on a quick Walmart run. I saw the guy watching me trying to blend in , no badge or tag visible.
i start LP on Tuesday and i am looking up good tips and i am about to watch your new video, pretty dope channel! but with any job i have i try to do 100% and i do not like to disappoint, the story sounds like the LP was just being a pest. the only time LP seemed to watch me was this one time in Marshals, she kept watching me and only just me! and talking on the radio and the other one up front would look at me hahaa. i just made eye contact and tried to show i am no threat but they kept watching me until we left. it kinda bugged me but i just laughed about it.
Really I don't know why they even have lps it's nothing they can do if somebody wants to get away. mabe just get knock out. That's what police are for.
I start following them when they follow me.They freak out. Then I order what I need on ebay or amazon for making me feel un comfortable
Let's start following them fucks and pretending to be the real lp officers 😎
Being too friendly is an indicator that you are worthy of being watched.
I had a horrible experience in Target, I was being followed from one aisle to another in the make up area. I was looking for a certain item. Noticed I was being followed closely by a man, I'd move, he move. It felt so uncomfortable and uneasy, it was hard to concentrate. It was so very uncomfortable. Got to a point that he was only a few feet from me, I thought he might hurt me, or grab me. Fed up I just got one item and hurried over to the cash resister to pay, I'll I wanted to do is get out of the store. The man didn't follow me to the cash resister, or out the store. If it ever happens again I'll know, I can have them fired and not have to worry about them again. I'll video their actions as proof, as it was so wrong and stalking behavior.
Lol you can't get them fired for doing their job.
If you just shop and go home , why you even care if anyone watches you ? The only reason you would worry is because you are STEALING
So if I were to put something in my pocket, say I didn't have a cart. Could L.P. approach me about it BEFORE I leave the store?
If you don't catch them peeping through hole at you on their knees
Does lp recognize customers who shop often and pay every time
Yes, just like when you recognize a car parked in front of your house that's never been there before. Absolutely Sveta
Yea they do as well as customers recognize who lp is because they shop their so much
Where I live it is a big town, not far from Tampa, The same people see us in Walmart all the time knows us by face we always talk to them, sure after several times they know most of their regular people
Rh
Yes you get to know the regulars, whether they're shoplifters or not
I had one Walmart LP follow me into the bathroom. I thought it was a tweaker. He popped in just before I got to the stall I turned around with my hand on my pistol and told him to rethink his plan. He quickly exited and I reported him to the manager. The manager let me know he was LP and they mistook me for someone else.
Sure thing Nick.
Boy that guy is lucky that you didn't wack him, duck.
Happened to me at walmart as well. It actaully happens to me a lot. And it happens more when im dressed down. I hate being followed around and my kids also see it. My 7 yr old daughter gets scared because she says guys always follow us around the store. She doesnt understand that they are just doing therw job, but it REALLY makes us uncomfortable. Is there any way I can let them know that they are LP so they will let us shop.
Sandra Tovar I had one following me in Walmart and I got so aggravated I finally just turned around and told him that I knew he was LP and to find someone else to follow. He got so flustered he walked away with a red face and left me alone.
They checkin out yo ass
Just tell them “Excuse me sir, I know you’re LP. Please leave us alone before I speak to the manager. Thanks!”
Very good advice bud. 👌 subscribed
If you take an anti theft sticker and put it close enough to the beepers at the door, the alarm will keep going off until the store turns off the system. Then its whole hog!!
🤔Finally somthing usfull to a broke, jobless bum who has to switch up his hustle this week👍
Ok intresting. So what I've heard is put them together (🔆🔆) face to face, rubbing each other, 🔊🔉🔈🔇.
Thanks bro. I’m not gonna lie I used to shoplift ALOT. Hey I was desperate. But I don’t anymore. I have way too much on the line. But after a while I could tell who was LP. In my city LP has the college mascot somewhere on their shirt. I’m in Wichita, Kansas and they usually have the shocker mascot on them. Besides I’ll notice them awkwardly walking around, way too obvious. My father used to work security for a grocery store and I was told stories. I remember the one time I got busted. They took me back and the usual Schtick. While talking one guy makes a run for it. By the end of my stay they had 3 people. This one kid who was early to mid 20s was supposed to stand by me. Left for like 3 seconds and I distinctly heard his boss say get back there he could escape. They tried to get me to admit to more then what they had me on.
Worked for wall Mart. For three years. Never once saw or met any of the l.p. guys. Never saw inside their room either. Kinda creepy, because I know they were there they just never identified themselve.
You are the clueless type. You should be aware of your surroundings, more. Use a crosswalk ever?

I just follow them lol and they get MAD!
Perks of working retail for 4yrs
I've been an APA for Walmart for about a month and can't seem to get the hang of keeping eyes the entire time. The lady who has been training me is actually absolutely phenomenal but I'm dealing with the whole 6'3", 285 lbs, and a beard thing. I just can't seem to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb, even looking like an oilfield worker which is where I actually came from and is the main industry in my area. I can spot an alert signal from a mile away but staying on them and out of sight is a different story entirely.
I am thinking about being a loss prevention but I would have to transfer to another store because that’s the only place that they’re hiring for but do you have any tips as working as a loss prevention
If Wal Mart wants to waste their time following me that is their business. All they will get is practice. Just do not ask to see my receipt when I leave, because you will not see it.
Why is that exactly?
I go to sally world spend my money and when leaving there’s someone wanting to check my receipt why? Since when is that a normal interaction in a brick and mortar store? They don’t see mine either, it’s like hey let me see your reciept criminal.
@@cashole5713 its been that way since the 90s
When I moved to a small town in NC the very first time I stepped foot in the nearest Walmart the LP guy started following me. He was with me every step of my shopping journey and it was like this EVERY time I was in the store. It got to the point where my son who was under 10 started asking why this guy was always following me. I finally went to the managers and was like look I know he is LP and he is doing his job but can you guys at least get him to hide himself better since my kids are now uncomfortable. The managers said it was because I had a bigger purse so ever time I went to Walmart I switched to a smaller purse every time I went to Walmart but it never stopped.
Yeah this is been happening to me I've been going into the store they started following me and finally I like flipped off the camera one day I left my cart and then I continued to go in there because it's the only Walmart near me. Maybe a year later all of a sudden the past few days I've been followed again. As soon as I walk in. I don't get it
I work in AP. Many of the things being said here are true, but there are some things that are wrong. Just because a customer starts talking to an employee in a calm, friendly manner, does not mean they will not steal, do you know how many people go up to an Associate, ask for help and advice, and then go walk out with a cart full of stuff?! However, the badge, needing the 5 elements, using phones etc... all correct. I don't use phones in my store because I'm the only AP in my store at the moment, but we would use them to communicate. Our cameras are phenemonal and we often help the police with outside cases due to the cameras. I love when people think they're fake! There is not one fake camera in the stores, we see everything in clarity! We do have an amount and circumstances that we HAVE to prosecute, but any amount under that is at our discretion. If they aren't in the system or don't have any prior retails, I usually cut them a break under a certain amount, depending on how they behave. I work at a maximum risk store so I catch about 4-5 per day. Maybe 2 or 3 will be prosecuted.
Also, I think this person could have been in the early stages of training, if he was at Walmart, he was training at a different store from his own and sometimes part of the training is floor training to follow someone, usually after looking for an alert signal. An alert signal can be anything, as long as it's not racially motivated or biased, no profiling, but other than that, there is no particular rule.
I lucked out, I had awesome trainers and Im good at my job, I love what I do!
They walk out the store with the whole cart full??
I been tearing them up 20 years..never been stopped...im semi retired now...maybe I'll get a job there....all loss prevention looks like this guy.
🤣🤣🤣
Do more videos about how to be a better LP. That would be so helpful
MG I got you...coming soon
I'm glad I accidentally came across your video. 😌 Just the other night I was at Walmart as it's the only big box store in my town, and while there I noticed a guy following me around. I'm in chemotherapy & I once in awhile feel sick so I always carry a small ziplock bag in my purse. Most of the employees there in CS know me & have even assisted me before. I was in the cat food isle & got sick in my mask. I got the bag, finished getting sick then had to change my mask. Afterwards, I started noticing a guy everywhere I went. He followed me for almost 15 minutes. All of my items were visible in the cart seat. I had put 2 items back however when I price checked them & realized they were not on clearance. I notice him walk up to a few employees as I'm heading there to ask where something is. As I ask, this guy rudely answers. I knew exactly who he was then, he was an LP. So I went where he told me to find what I asked about. I also start seeing him whisper into each employees ear I pass & then they dart their eyes right at me. I walked then into the sock area and stop. He was 10 feet away & stood & stared. So I finally went to him & asked why he was following me. He sd "Because I don't trust you! I saw you fiddle in your purse & put a couple items back!" I explained what I was doing in my purse, asked if he'd like to see my vomit, then explained why I returned the 2 curtains. He then sd "ok, FU!" under his breath thinking I didn't hear him & he walked away. I never saw him again. I'm embarrassed & pissed. I know now who he is after a friend gave me his name. This guy is a 26 year old who was booted from the Army recently & thinks he's better than anyone. I've called to speak to the manager but he never seems to be around.
@Patriotic Dandelions I reported it and because he's done this to other customers and WalMart employees, he was fired.
Two loss prevention officers followed me out to the parking lot of a big department store and watched me get into my car. I didn't know they were LP at the time and thought 2 creepy guys might follow me home so I went into my car and drove around the corner to another exit of the department store and continued shopping in hopes that the "creepy"" guys will go away after which I will leave the store. I ended up in the changing room line up with about 12 items and that same "creepy" guy (who I now think was an LP) tapped me on the shoulder and asked me how many items I had. He then escorted me to another change room and told me I can only take in 6 items at a time. He stood out the door as i changed. As I was leaving, he said "Thank you for your cooperation". When I went back to the store a few days later, I told the manager what happened and she acted clueless like she had no idea who he was - yeah right! What is she hiding? Am I being investigated for shoplifting? They let me go but almost 100% sure they got my license plate. Why would they do all this if I wasn't a suspect? Any help would be so much appreciated!
Me too yesterday I was at Walmart. I was in self checkout. I’m in one of those electrical wheelchairs they provide. I have very bad vertigo. So I had a trash can full of stuff and more groceries in my cart. So as I was checking out by using a scan gun or whatever that thing is. The lady grabbed my trash can and yelled at me make sure all this stuff is scanned. I told her check the screen. Everything I scanned is on the screen. Then she took my stuff I already scanned in the cart that isn’t in the trash can out and started bagging it. I told her to leave my stuff alone I have a box in my car I put stuff in when I run out of bags. She didn’t listen. So I paid for all my stuff and I thought she put my bag in my cart and I left when I got home I was missing food!! I was pissed!! I called Walmart talk to the manager and she was shocked. The lady left for the day after I just got home. When I got back to Walmart the manager tried looking for my stuff that was missing and she only found 4 items cuz everything was being taken back to shelf’s. So I spent the next freakin hour to find all the stuff all over the store. The lady Made me lose about $45 worth of food.
I am 70 years old and was stopped before I left the store by 2 people who said we want to talk to you about what you have in your purse then they took me back and harassing me I finally was escorted out by local police officers and told not to worry about it.
just imagine if there was a line of people all dressed the same and just followed a route picked up just a set of item and purchased them all in a line, would a LP follow them? and imagine if they just spaced themselves out far enough that they could just create a full loop a few times.
like a purchasing flash mob
Thanks for video!! 👌
So what are these indicators because I am a going attractive female and I get followed and watched every store I go to and I don't steal. I take my time and move slowly sometimes but that shit pisses me off! I always get targeted for some reason.
Dose the same apply in the uk because i got training to be a lpo for tkmaxx
A lot of times I do not have extra money to spend, When my wife is buying food at Walmart I walk around and look, I wear clothes that look good sometimes when I go in and kind of watch other people I will stand there in the DVD section or Phone section make it look like I'm looking at things and makes them uneasy when they see me because they think I'm a Loss prevention agent
Anytime I'd visit San Diego, and go to one of the walmarts around, I could spot LPs almost instantly, I was being watched once. Finally just said something to that individual about it. Im no thief and I started to get pissed. I was there for roughly an hour and watched almost constantly.
As I typed this comment I heard you say Chula Vista, the walmart I visited was in National City.
I'm an LP, I'll follow you, I'll let you know I'm following you, I'll get the manager and the manager will let you know that you are being followed, the cameras are recording you and thats all there is to it. It's a fun game, we get a big laugh and life goes on. Have a nice day. It's called private business doing what they want and there are no laws that prevent that. You don't like that? Go shop elsewhere! LOL. They can follow and watch me all they want, I really don't care, I just shop, purchase and leave. It does not get any simpler than that. LOL. Find something better to do. Life is too short to be paranoid.
Just wait in till somebody knocks u out 😂
Hey man I like your videos. I want to get into loss prevention any advice for me? I actually caught quite a few when I used to work at a supermarket.
Angelica C Absolutely, you can always DM me IG. Have you began applying?
Year ago I was held in error by a mainstream store's LP people...I tried to leave and was detained but had not even done anything...cops came and when tapes were reviewed it was found to be a mistake..I filed a lawsuit and settled with un-named store for $35K...but agreed not to talk to tv media...these mistakes do happen so now as bad as it sounds, I do try to look like a suspect as when you are held in error you can make some extra money..I would never steal anything but have no problem benefiting from over-zealous LP staff!!
Brother u just blabbing on around the whole point ur trying to get to. Brown this video could've easily been 3min lol
I had 3 diff mirrors working the floor, gazing was never a problem. Cool channel btw
LP can NOT be terminated for watching anybody. Period. It is their job and at their discretion to choose to watch anybody that may be exhibiting suspicious behavior. I know the industry well. More often not the LP gets called out because the person they're watching just got locked on to and their plans of theft got foiled, and now they're pissed. Walmart sucks, period. I agree. I was recently in a retailer where I observed two females both conceal a bottle each of UV in their purse in the liquor aisle. I'm sure LP saw this too. Right before they exited they both decided to dump the bottles because the LP guy got spotted. They both passed him and said garbage like "why u following me secret shopper". Well as I passed them I said "because you both were about to walk out with two bottles of booze you fucken degenerates!" "That's why he's watching!"
We've got a hero here everybody
And what is suspicious behavior? No one can answer this.
If you see loss prevention then they suck I've never been spotted ever and I've been doing it for 10 years
Why would I gaf who LP when I have never shoplifted? I'd have called him out.
I can see your experience from the sheer depth and breadth of your explanation of your "bad experience". I'd pay good money to train with you privately...
I actually would like to become a loss prevention officer is their any requirements to become one or is it just I can apply right away
no special requirements. Did you graduate high school?😂
Great presentation! Excellent points & insights.
I occasionally get profiled, apparently mistaken for being Mexican. I'm part Jewish. I have had store staff following me around, only because it's SO obvious what they are doing. Oy vey, what ding dongs. A recent episode is what prompted me to look up what shoplifters do, trying to figure out why on earth I get targeted. Well, I'm doing none of the behaviors, nor have the accoutrements of said occupation.
The only causal factor is profiling, because nothing else is happening or adds up.
I can also sense the seasoned LPs/security personnel, because they radiate a power & control/bouncer/enforcer type of vibe. They give themselves away with their body language, affect, and how they manage their attention.
I'm a counselor and it's my job to connect with people, which has honed my observational skills & empathic abilities.
Most of the time I chuckle to myself and ignore them. Sometimes if I'm peckish, and they are giving off a superiority/righteousness attitude & hovering too close, a la amateur cop detective style, I will engage them in convo and embark on a long-winded monologue. LOL.
At Costco once, at the exit receipt review, a young guy discovered an item, less than $10 value, had been overlooked. It was out in plain sight in my cart, I wasn't even paying attention, just weary from work & thinking about home. Well, you'd think he'd caught some big time criminal. He pulled me aside, asked me questions, and then carefully wrote down my name, phone #, and membership ID info. He said it would be reported, kept in a file, and if it ever happened again, I'd lose my membership privileges for life.
I'm looking at him in disbelief, said this was a cashier error, and I doubt after being a club member since the 1970s, when it was the Price Club, it'd be highly unlikely I'd suddenly begin to shoplift something. The whole time I knew he was profiling me, and was on a power trip. I paid for the merchandise and went on my way. I thought about boycotting the store, but knew it wasn't the company at fault, rather it was the delusional wannabe police officer. Although better training would've been helpful.
Thank you and I look forward to watching more of your other videos. Peace.
Cool story
Good info! Walmart must have very poor training in all their stores as it’s very easy to spot an LP at ours here in NC. Two different stores, different towns they stick out like a sore thumb. And this is a chain of stores that definitely profiles its customers. Good to hear your sons also an LP. He’s got a great teacher with you.
I was a cop for 20 years and really got alarmed at all of the shoplifting calls. If you’ve got a good team word gets out that stores not one to mess with trying to steal.
I know this video was posted a while ago but this video popped up because i was searching videos of how to know when LP is following/harassing you in walmart! I work for acosta which is a vendor company for walmart and sams clubs. So im there all the time! I had my offical badge on and my tablet that has a huge acosta sticker on the outside where it is visible as well as my badge being clearly visible. So my story goes like this im in store doing my work and i had cut myself on something so i put a napkin on my cut that i had in my pocket then proceded to the band aid aisle i picked up a box of bandaids took one out and put it on right away because my cut was pretty bad! I then RIGHT AWAY went to self check out and bought the band aid box i had opened and used. And i even told the lady watching the self check out area that i had cut myself and didnt know where the bandaids were in the back for employees so i opended this bandaid package and put one on already and that i am buying it right now. Everything went smooth checking out the lady said i understand and no problems! But then i see this young lady a couple of times in regular clothes following me then anouther older guy in regular clothes following me too. I said nothing just thinking in my head im being crazy or something! But then as i continued working i see them in every aisle im in like circling the aisle in my location so then i stared to think i saw that young lady on a previous visit (not to mention she was wereing the same exact clothes as the last time i saw her) On that previous visit i was on i saw the same young lady that was following me laughing and joking with one of the department managers there and they were talking about work so i knew she worked there! As for the older guy i knew he worked there too because as soon as i relized they were following me i started to watch them back and saw them watching me from a distance and they were talking and just conversating as they were staring at me working so i started to stare back and made eye contact with the both of them.
What advice would you give a young woman whos been hired to be a LP.
Your not a man so don't act like one?
I worked lp for a long time, and I get followed around everytime I enter a storr that there are lps in. It doesn't matter if I'm wearing a suit and tie, or my regular casual clothing, they always seem to gravitate towards me. I just laugh and keep it moving because I know exactly what they are dealing with and what they do, I know I'm not doing anything wrong at all. I catch myself critiquing their work all the time and the lps these days are nowhere near efficient or effective with their training in dealing with shoplifters as we were.
Aaron Reid any nigga that look down they following. you got on a sweatsuit followed, hoody followed, black followed, hispanic followed, visible tattoos followed whole the white boy walking out wit a cart full of shit easy
The reason you were hired for the job is because you appear to be suspect yourself...this is why you tend to get followed no matter how you dress...sorry to tell you.
Snitch.
HBK970 right! 🤣🤣🤣
Well yeah you're black.
Can anyone tell me how it is to be an LP for a grocery store more specific for an H-E-B. No smart ass remarks please. I just need a job and prior service at least gave me skills to be good at this job. So F it. Thinking of applying. But just keep seeing comments on LP for Walmart and target. But what about H-E-B?
Are you saying they can't do anything about stealing $5 or less?
This was funny to watch with closed captioning. He went into Walmart to look for something to "brace my teeny pants". Not "brace my TV stand". There were a few other funny things. But thanks for this info.
Serious question...Lets Say one of these LP's suspects someone of stealing but the person really hasn't done anything wrong. The LP tries to stop them from leaving and grabs the person. That person hits the LP or even goes so far as to let a round off in one of them. What are the laws regarding this type of situation? Would a person get charged for assault when the LP touched an innocent person first?
Good job on this video!! My funny story at TJMax as soon as i walked in i saw a couple on blouses grab 6 continue with a couple more the price was right so then here comes a worker and tells me is everything ok i looked at her and i said yes and no and continue my shopping but i was taking my time by now 1 hr. had gone by and there she is again so i told her since your following me around can you give me some water so i can take my tylenol because if you would to look down on my left leg i have a boot due to an injury and i would like for you to help me look for more items . I told her you need a lot of training on how to approach customers because when you saw me grab those items you looked all scared so go followed someone else before you get fired and get the proper training after all that i grab lots of items but only took the blouses and i had her push my basket to customer service and told her now you can put all the other items back since you made a big mistake following me around thinking i was going to steal blouses big mistake i had her fired because she kept asking me is everything ok and harassing me when i couldn't even walked that fast i had to take my time to enjoy my shopping .i love my blouses but TJMax workers need good training.
I don't work in loss prevention and never have but being a Black man I've always been able to spot who's the loss prevention person in a department store because I can see them start to follow me and I can also hear the dome cameras turning to watch my every move. When I'm the only person in a section of the store its quiet enough to hear the dome cameras move around because they're watching me from the camera room. Also I can tell if you're an LP if you're looking at stuff that I know you're not going to wear yourself. I've waived at the cameras before because I knew they were watching me. I'm not even a thief. Don't be obvious if you're an LP.
Righton.pushing empty baskets.earplugs in. Cellphones in hand no basket. Standing in the aisle with me,staring at a bottle of ketchup for 5 mins.come on.these lp guys are amazing.
I haven't been in a Walmart in years and this is just another reason never to go there.
Thanks for the 411 brother 🇺🇸
So what do you currently do ?
I was walking around a Michaels once and followed this 30 year old woman from one aisle to the next looking for something (it was a coincidence) and she thought I was LP. She called me out on it and I laughed, idk how you approach a situation like that?
She is probably a shoplifter.
How can I get a job as a loss prevention person around the Detroit area somewhere easy that will allow me to work for them
I have poor situational awareness at the store maybe I wonder after watching these videos now if I ever get follow lol.
That young lady would not stop staring at me so obviously i finally confronted her and said i know your following me because of these bandaids and showed her my receipt she just said oh and walked away! After that she and her guy helper did NOT stop following me so i messed with then big time i started to put little things in my cart and follow them and then i would lose them on purpose and put the product on some random shelf so when i would start following them following me they would see my cart had a couple of things in there and now none! They got so pissed off. But didnt stop following me so i kept doing it then i decided ill go out side with nothing in my cart to go smoke a ciggaret! They literally waited at the door untill i came back in and i said hi to her and said wow your really dedicated to watching me! And then said dont worry you can waste your time because i dont steal from my work place...... The look on her face was priceless! But im still pissed off because my whole 8 hours of work she and he both followed me! And no im not a stealer i never stole anything from walmart or ever will so idk why they would just keep following me because i dont have a past from stealing or acting suspicious in any time i have bin to that walmart shopping or working! So i was wondering what i should do in that situation? Tell the store manager? But they NEVER do anything! Or what?
Samantha Stout I had a similar situation working for Target. They took it too far, I couldn't even go to the bathroom without the lp leader following me and sitting at the stall next to me. One time I found all the pockets on my jacket inside out , another time it was covered in coffee. I don't steal and it probably made them upset after spending all that time watching and waiting to catch me doing something. I should've made some phone calls but I let my emotions get the best of me and I quit my job. The team leaders really liked me and I could've been a leader someday if I had stayed. I did eventually send a detailed Email to the Ethics Dept. But they responded by saying the situation has been dealt with appropriately. I know the woman that worked with LP left Target but don't know the status of the LP leader but at least the complaint will stay on record. I know the lockers are Target property and they have the right to search those but It was an unpleasant learning experience. They never communicated or asked questions and I really think it could've been handled better.
I think Walmart LPs aren't as trained as Target LP. I know I'm generalizing but it's true for Hawaii Walmart/Target department stores
So why does Target stand at the entrance and not the exit?
Its okay lol I've had it happen at Target. The guy was literally looking qt items right next to me. Then I walked towards the front and i guess he lost me because I saw him out of no where basically he was jogging right by my aisle. Then stopped and acted like he was just shopping. LMAO
