The story back then was that the metal and hard rock bands were left out of the USA for Africa "We are the world" song done by multiple bands/artist. So the metal bands got together and did their own song.

It’s wasn’t Metal Bands, it was Ronnie James Dio. He wanted to be part of USA for Africa, but he was a dirty metal guy. So in true Metal fashion he said “F’ You” and came up with this. This whole album is a “Who’s Who” of the time. EVERYONE who was even mediocrely (most were/are platinum artists) relevant was on this album.

    5:38 "WHO'S THIS?!"
Oh that's just the one and only George Lynch, one of the best guitarists ever ;) He's actually my favorite guitar player. Played in a glam/heavy metal band called Dokken, great fucking band with killer guitar solos in just about every song.
If you decide to react to them here's some tips along the way
    Ballads:
    "Alone Again"
    "Walk Away"
    Fast paced and/or kickass 80's glam/heavy metal:
    "Tooth and Nail"
    "Kiss of Death"
    "Unchain the Night"
    "Mr Scary"
    "Into the Fire"
    "Lightning strikes again"
    "The Hunter"
As a bonus I'll throw in "When Heaven Comes Down", it's much darker and sinister than the rest of their songs but god damn is it beautiful and melancholic and the guitar solo is one of my favorites of all time.

I met George in Vegas, while on vacation; in an MGM suite I was invited too, after seeing Mickey Finn's (Jetboy) newer Rockabilly band at the House of Blues. There were dudes from bands that I had posters of on my walls, but they were mostly more underground. I played Breaking Tbe Chains, Lynch joined & soloed over me, and Mickey sang. I was put on the spot to play something, and because GEORGE FUCKING LYNCH was there; I jokingly started the song. George chuckled and said he "hates that fucking song", but everyone (which were mostly better musicians than I, and known in the 80's/early 90 's by hard rock/metal fans), were all calling for him to do it, and it was surreal for me. Closest I will ever get to being cool, lol.

Hear 'n Aid was a charity record recorded by a large ensemble of 40 heavy metal musicians and released in 1986. The project was organized by Ronnie James Dio, Jimmy Bain, and Vivian Campbell, all from the band Dio. Proceeds from the album were used to raise money for famine relief in Africa.[1]
The 40 musicians which had been gathered together by Dio recorded the single "Stars" together; the rest of the album was filled out with eight other tracks, several of which were contributed by artists who were on tour and unable to attend and participate in the mass recording session. A music video was released as well, produced during the recording sessions.

I was a teenager metalhead in communist Poland. 2 national and 1 regional TV stations. But on station 2 there was a 20 minute show every day where they played western pop videos. Everybody knew "USA for Africa". But one day I saw "Stars". All my heroes plus tons of others I didn't know at one place! I kept watching that show every day in hope that this clip would be played again, and one day I was lucky, but that was probably the last time they played that clip. Anyway, I came here for the song, but was equally amazed by 2 beautiful human beings reacting 🙂 Stay cool!

Brad, you're looking for "vibrato" which is oscillation between two pitches and is a natural occurrence but can be controlled. Singers like Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, and Bruce Dickinson are good examples of metal singers who have very operatic sounds, but are fully capable of adding distortion without damaging the throat or vocal cords.

Damn, I requested this on one of your old streams many, many months ago, glad yall have finally done it. This project was the idea of Ronnie James Dio and Vivian Campbell who both played in Dio. Vivian is a mean guitarist. As I'm sure you noticed their were notable people missing. No one from Van Halen, No Ozzy, no Def Leppard, no Ratt and of course this was 1985 so they didn't ask a lot of the Younger Bands who were still making a name for themselves like a Metallica. They werent huge yet although they were known. And Skkd row didn't release their first album until 1989, so no they weren't here

Right, I'm still not sure this wasn't a Spinal Tap kind of parody...and I was around back when this came out, never heard it until now.
