- This is all about why I switched to a floor desk to improve my health. I now sit and work on the floor as much as possible and in this video I explain why I decided to do this and the benefits I've noticed so far. ✨🎥❤️ I JUST GOT THE FLOOR SIT TO STANDING DESK!! Here's the video! • Why I switched to a fl...
This comes on the heels of me giving my traditional bed away and switching to a Japanese floor futon. I was able to turn my existing desk into a floor desk for just a few bucks and I feel it's a great way to go if you already have a desk and want to save money. I'm just learning about the world of furniture-free living and I'm loving it so far!

🚨GUYS I GOT THE FLOOR SIT TO STANDING DESK!! Here's the video! czcams.com/video/z9m5rFuR1Zw/video.html
I want the floor sit to standing desk SO BAD. I work from home and have a sitting to standing desk, but I want one that goes to the floor. Sadly, I can't really justify $1000 on a desk at the moment, plus a few hundred for the monitor arms
Hello, all of your acting looks like Gina Torres in suits. And you smile a lot more
@@Vetrivel.Shanmugam lolllll
Unlike many channels this video just convinced me to try NOT spending money.
Hahahahaha in a past life I was spending ALLL the money lol
@@natashatheresa Once you realize you can just modify your furniture it's not only way cheaper, but way more satisfying to make things fit your needs exactly!
@@DanielPodlovics oh yes this is so true!!
Fidgeting is just the natural reality of how humans are meant to live and rest. People see it as a negative thing, but really sitting motionless in one position is only possible with hyper-normal comfortable modern furniture. You're supposed to be constantly moving when you're awake. As they say, the best position is the next position. The reality of floor living is that your'e going to be changing positions every few minutes. That's a good thing.
Do you have a channel? You def know your stuff lollllll. Yeah I used to think so differently about kids and them not being able to stay still (esp in school) but now years later I have pulled my kids out of public school and we go gallivanting outside each day lol
I was sitting with my legs crossed and folded and had my computer setup on a small coffee table.
I can get comfortable(it was likely after I put my bed cushions on the floor) sitting on the floor, but the result of that is that my legs don't get circulation and I couldn't stand up for 0.5-1 minutes, that was the case for both having my legs crossed and folded.
@@niewazneniewazne1890 oh no!! I try to avoid the cross legged position for too long. I’ve come to believe the best position is the next position 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Ok..
Not buying it.

That's because you live in an american/western bubble... Hundreds probably thousands of such creators exist. Women in 40s to 70s..
This video just randomly popped up on my feed and when you sis you were 40 my jaw dropped. I thought you were around my age 😂 I’m 26
Awwww thanks so much for your kind words. I’m trying hahahaha.
I thought the same thing… I am 37 and she looks 10 years younger than me ❤
I’m glad you said that sitting on the ground makes you move more, because I can’t sit still for long when I’m on the ground. Now, I will think of it as a positive - movement, stretching, etc. 👍🏻
Yes I used to think I’m supposed to be able to sit still for long periods of time but I realize our bodies really aren’t made for that. I believe whenever we are uncomfortable it’s just our body saying it’s time to move so I like thinking about it that way now 😍 thanks for watching!
Also, sitting down and standing up from the floor makes your leg muscles stronger which helps avoid knee problems.
@@amilee7580 yes the first few days I was like why is my hamstrings and glutes kinda sore then I realized I was basically doing a ton of squats hahahaha
Chairs are among the 4 inventions bad for our bodies: beds, chairs, sitting toilets and shoes.
Sitting on the floor, or anything not chair, causes you to sit more dynamically. Move more, shift your center of gravity and engage muscles - especially core and reflexive ones - that improve stability.
We aren't meant to be cushioned to disability. Ditch over-comfort.
at this rate you could add a lofted reading/vibing space and it wouldn’t interfere with your floor living
Heyyyhyyyyyyyyyyyy oh my goodness I am liking this!!
Using totes, milk crates, etc. That can double as storage as well as serve as rearrangable furnature. :) I move stuff around to make more space in my room all the time this way.
I am 68 and have been a floorist for decades - I love being on the floor for everything.
That is amazing!!!!! Yay for being so active still!!!
You will ruin your posture. Especially.. your back will be bent..
Don’t..
@@user-crvgbhfgw5tjx there is no reason I can't sit up straight on the floor. Asian people have been doing it for thousands of years.
@@user-crvgbhfgw5tjx thank you for the reminder to sit up straight, but it is no more difficult on the floor than in a chair.
Thank you for sharing the term floorist I like that and I think it is good for your back - I don't see how it would ruin your posture if anything it would enhance your posture in my view and experience -
pausing the video real quick to absolutely validate the gymnastic rings idea
They are in my possession already lolllll
Hanging is the BEST chiropractic doctor. It opens up the discs and re-aligns the spine. It's great for people who get slipped discs, bulged disc, or worst, pinched nerves in the spine, or just people who lift a lot of heavy things day to day. It was one of the exercises that helped me re-align the spine and start healing the spine. My dad even built a pull up bar in his back yard, that's how beneficial it is.
I STRONGLY support the purchase of rings or any pull up equipment for EVERYONE, but especially people who suffer from spine injuries or pinched nerves. It was a game changer for me and my dad. And much less $ than going to a chiropractor or surgeon who have the potential of making things WORST if they are too harsh or don't know what they are doing. And yes, I've heard of chiropractors who have injured their clients and made them crippled.
Yesss we have a pull up bar in our home as well! I feel sooo much better when I just hang a bit each day!!! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!!
That’s horrible about the chiros! I used to go to one and it did feel good but I just kept getting tied back up lol. Now that I hang out regularly on a bar I feel much better!! I feel like it’s such a basic thing but it’s soooooo important!!!
I guess there's one good thing about gravity for our bodies! 😁
@@Runner8617 hahahahaha yeah for sure!!
I want to add another pro: you cannot drop stuff as low if you're already close to ground level, if you run out of space on your desk you can use the floor around you. When I get my own place I will definitely buy a low table! I love the floor
Yahhhhhh it’s nice to have the floor as an extension of my desk too hahahhahaha
I love this video and I’m here to kindly remind you that you owe your kid some money. 18k views? He deserves a 10 at least!
You are right I have sent him an initial payment hahahahaha! He just saw the video and was very happy, he also read through all the comments and was all smiles hahahahah!
Legit never occurred to me I could just take the legs off my current desk, I'm trying that right now, thanks!
No problem yeah I didn’t even know myself until I started exploring desks and was like hold on this too costly hahahahahhaa
Incorporating movement into your daily routine is so much easier than trying to carve out exercise time. I have a floor bed and a floor desk, and I also have a freestanding pull-up bar. I do draw the line at living and dining rooms though for my guests' sake.
Yes I agree it’s easier to incorporate movement in daily routine! For me, in my old house I used to have one couch but then also a pillow mountain so it was the best of both worlds for the living room. In my kitchen I actually had a regular height dining table and then a smaller floor dining table off to the side depending on our mood. I might do something similar but for now we do have some regular dining seating if we end up having guests. But I don’t have many people I’d invite over anyway so I guess we are fine lollllllllll
I have been sleeping on a tatami mat and Japanese futon for the past 2 years and my back pain has gone away. I’m a 51 year old nurse so back pain was constant. I also have a floor desk and I love it too! I say get the Olympic rings. I would if I could, but unsure if my apt ceiling would support it. I’m small, but still 😅
They have already arrived at my house lollll!
It’s so great to hear your story!! Glad it worked for youuuuuuu
my parents grew up sitting on the ground, and they have better core strength than I do, even though they did no athletics growing up. pretty crazy what it can do
This makes sense! I feel like if you are able to just incorporate more movements and positions into every day life then it’s not as necessary to have a whole separate workout routine or something ahhaha
Running in to a small channel like this that you already know is going to be a favorite is just the best feeling!
Wow this comment is everything. Thanks so much for being here and for your kind words!!
i have to do this!!!! I always squat or sit cross legged on my chair anyway because my legs hurt when i sit normally. That’s brilliant! 🤩

I’ve been sleeping on the floor for several years now and I love it. I just spent $300 on a new desk chair and now I’m rethinking it 😢
Oh noooo! But yay for sleeping on the floor I wish I found it sooner but better late than never!!
As someone who grew up sleeping on the floor it was my dream to have a bed and since I had my own bed I can’t imagine ever having to sleep on the floor again
I just LOVE this! I'm 48 and I need to work on my flexibility so I can be the limber, energetic 90 year old I want to be. I'm so tired of 'normal' furniture that isn't even comfortable. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yessssss that’s what I’m saying! I want to be 90 years old and still be moving and shaking, in a good way hahahah. Thanks for dropping by!!
I also turned my desk into a floor desk, it’s been 6ish months and my hips have NEVER been more mobile. I can get from standing to squatting sooo smoothly.
That’s so cool! My hamstrings have definitely firmed up in just a couple of weeks lol
I think that higher desk legs, so your legs can fit below the desk, would be more confortable for your arms to use the desk because you can get closer.
I like this idea!! I think eventually I’ll get one or build one without drawers so it’s easier to put my legs under :)
I agree. I go for 12 to 15 inches under my desk so I can sit in various positions and transition between them without knocking the desk crazy.
Looking forward to an update on how you're liking the floor living.
For sure!! Thanks for watching Michelle!!
The ergonomics are terrifying but I like your vibe 😂
LOL I appreciate your candor. The update video is coming in the next day or so, maybe the ergonomics will be less terrifying LOLLLLLL
When I first started at my standing desk I was only able to stand for about 10 to 15 minutes and I was tired. Over the course of months I came to the point where I wanted and was able to stand eight hours, the whole work shift. Was wonderful. I actually think standing is better than sitting on the ground. But that's just my body not being comfortable sitting for a long time. The hours I sleep and lay in bed reading is the time that my Body is resting.
Thank you for sharing your insights! It makes sense and that's awesome you are able to stand for 8 hours straight! I think anything is better than having to sit in a regular office chair position. I just love the benefits that come with sitting on the floor b/c there's a lot more... getting up (squatting and such). I would say my main goal is to always be moving my body in all the different positions and directions that it was built to maneuver, and sitting in a chair all day is not that. HAHAHHAHA. I appreciate you watching!
Fantastic idea! Be a little uncomfortable to keep you moving and flexing around. I immediately put a plank on a laundry basket and am now sitting on the floor. Being uncomfortable, but at the same time happy with the knowlegde this is because I'm stiff and my body is now just not used to being flexible yet :-) Thanks for this!
It’s in the discomfort that we grow…. hahahahaaha. Thanks for watching!!
oh my goodness, I forgot about putting my feet behind my head. I used to do that as a kid too! Totally forgot about that. I used to do that backwards bend thing too. I think they call it a bridge, but I used to freak my granny out who said I was going to hurt myself. It never hurt. It was fun.
Yeah my son loves doing this lollllll! He does it regularly to maintain it. I’m working on getting it back…. We shall see lolllll
This share has given me SO much to think about! Thank you 🙏🏾 I’m due for a mattress and I think that mat is the one for me!
Oooo lots to think about! I’ll be doing an update video about my floor bed by July so stay tuned!
I have been sleeping on a shikibuton for over 2 years now. I use a tatami mat underneath. It has been the best thing ever.
That’s awesome! I think my next step is to add a tatami mat :)
At the start of lockdowns and working from home, I was using my coffee table as my desk. I loved it for all the reasons you mentioned. Then my coworkers started mentioning it in calls ("are you sitting on the floor??") and I felt so embarrassed that I got a 'normal' desk. Two workplaces later, I still have that regular desk and shoulder pain/slumping at 26. You're onto something here.
Awww yeah I’m realize that for so many areas of life, what everyone thinks normal is actually what is doing is more harm than good. Time
To get back on the floor; or maybe get a desk that allows to you be “normal” just for any zoom meetings lolllll
It’s strange because I just brought a desk, but now I prefer sitting on the floor as I find it much more comfortable and even miss it 😅
It be like that sometimes!!!
Definitely, yes, get the Olympic Rings! You will use them, and add such fun tricks to your videos, so that we all can enjoy them too. Lol I can't believe you are 40! You look amazing! Great video - I've been floor sleeping for about 3 and a half months now and such a positive improved sleep - and have been floor sitting and also got myself an affordable table to use as a floor desk/table - your body prompts you when to move - and you do change your position when floor sitting where as when sitting in chair for long periods you are limited to what change you can make - more standing is also good
Yesssss exactly, our body prompts us to move! Stay tuned bc I’m currently trying out a floor to standing desk hehe
I'm not one that usually comments on videos, but... This has been the most fun, useful videos I've seen in quite some time. Thank you for sharing your experience, keeping it short, humorous, and creative.
I loved the quirky video editing, side jokes and serious topic. Please do give us a long-term result of the experiment. Being too long at our desks is one of the modern plagues that haunts us and this is the first time I hear of this solution.
I am honored that you decided to comment on my video, thank you so much! And yes, I'm actually getting ready to release an update video, as I am trying out a floor to sit to standing desk and want to share my findings with you all :) I should have it posted by Monday at the latest.
For a year now, I’ve been enjoying my desk on the floor. I have a adjustable floor seat. I’m loving Japanese style living. You got a new subscriber! I will check out your other videos as well.
Thank you so much!!! I am loving Japanese style living as well! I mean it’s one of the blue zones too right? They live so long and are so mobile in old age and I wanna be that hahahahha
I'm so happy to see I'm not the only one doing this!!! You said every reason I had as well. I don't think I want to go back!

I am loving your videos! I’m so glad I learned of your channel through Gabe Bult. And you’re hilarious lol. Really enjoying your content and looking to incorporate better ways to improve my mobility as well. Great ideas here. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for your kind words glad you are here!!
I love this so much. I'm considering getting a sitting mat for college, because literally in society it's: sit in chair, walk a bit, sit in another chair. There might be biking a bit or gym time, but the need to be in a chair all the time is weird to me. Our hips are meant for more mobility than being in one position, yet most of our time is in a chair.
Yes girl this is so true! Then we wonder why when we get old we got no hips no more! Thanks for watching and yes get that sitting mat! Hahahaha
I never saw a video of you before but just clicked and I want to say you come across as such a genuine, nice person! The way you talk about things in an enthousiastic but not youtube-extreme enthousiastic way is refreshing. Thanks for being yourself😊
This is a very kind thing for you to say, thanks so much for clicking and being here hehe :)
I've been doing furniture free living for a few years, too. I'm thinking of going back to chairs, if I'm honest, because sitting on the floor is really starting to hurt my ankles (they press into the ground when I sit). I also didn't foresee the problem of the dog snoozing in the space directly in front of my desk, when I need to use it. That's a non issue when the space in front of your desk has a chair on it. I'm also thinking of putting in, not a bed, but a stage about the size of a plywood sheet, with storage below it. This would be my new sleeping place at night. I want this because 1. I'm often at risk of being stepped on, while sleeping on the floor. and 2. I've had knee injuries in the past, and now am getting older. Either issue by itself is reason to consider occasional mobility issues, where a raised "bed" would be a lifesaver! That said, furniture free living has eliminated my back pain, improved some neglected muscles, as well as my posture (I keep my tv/computer screen at face level), and kept me limber. Overall I'm very glad I did this!
i apperciate you sharing your experiences! Definitely some things to consider, which you don't discover until you are actually in the midst of it! i did find that my ankles did not like it when i would put them in direct contact with the floor so I always have to use a cushion when sitting cross legged. Appreciate your thoughtful comment!!

Thoughtworthy is a great YT channel . . . as is your channel and excellent content! As someone who lives simply, it is a joy to observe how you are finding the sweet spot of needing less and less furnishings and finding what suits your lifestyle. The way you are getting up from the floor and sitting back down is wonderful for your being. Ability to do that is considered a real bonus for me and my senior friends. Your future self will thank you. 😃 Olympic rings have my vote! I take any chance I get to hang from the playground bars. And no joke: you've got me seriously considering the same for my only table currently used as a "desk" for home office space. 🤔 Trying out new ideas is exciting; looking forward to your updates.

My laptop is on a folding breakfast tray and I sleep on a egg tray bed topper on the ground. I don't have a pillow for my head. I do have a Japanese sofa chair thing that has a back that I coveted whenever I saw it in anime. It can lay flat or the back can come up in stages until it reaches that 90°. It's good when I use it with a hotdog pillow to wedge my lumbar.
I also don’t use a pillow bc I would wake up with a stiff neck whenever I did!

I have been sleeping on the floor since 2020 after I finally bought tatami !! I have never thought of floor leveled desk but this is amazing. I had tried the stand up desk but this is something I really need to try. Thank you for this novel idea.
I am so happy to see someone else also into sitting on the floor and sleeping on the floor !! 😢
Yes we gotta stick together apparently there’s a bunch of us out there, time to form an association ahhahaha! Thanks for being here and yeah let me know if you end up trying a floor desk!
amazing i also thought about go to sit on the ground after see it on toughtworthy, hope youll share ur experience in a later video!
Thanks! For sure the update video is already in the works hahahhaha
As someone who just turned 40, I can confirm I creaking.

You'd love having a low Japanese style dining table! We used to have a table that we sat on the floor to eat at, and I loved it!
I did used to in my old house! I loved having the option to sit close to the floor for dinner, but in our new place we got a free dining set and have no couches so I’m debating whether to keep it for if we have guests so there’s still some regular seats around lol!!
Oh gosh, you’re 40!!! U r so flexible!! I want this for myself!! U look great!!! I thought u were in your 20’s or 30’s!! Good for u!!!
i love this, thank you
I love you thank YOU hahahah
What a great lovely video
You are so kind, glad you enjoyed it!
SO glad this was recommended to me, I love your vibe! When I was a kid I had a book about a Japanese doll's house. It was part story, part instruction manual to build your own authentic Japanese house, and I've been obsessed with legless furniture and being on the floor ever since
Wow that sounds so cool! Thanks for sharing and I’m glad you found your way here! I’m totally obsessed with all things Japanese at this point lol
@@natashatheresa It's called 'Miss Happiness and Miss Flower' if you want to search for it! But apparently later editions do not contain the instructions, which is a bummer. It kickstarted my interest in Japanese culture for sure!
@@macsworld93 thanks for the book rec ♥️♥️
I subscribed because you are so fun to watch. Good vibes.
Thank you!!!!
I made myself a low desk before about two years ago-its aspecially long, so i have space for paperwork and Laptop and so that I can stretch my legs under it. :) I love it and will never go back to a common desk hight!
That's awesome! Yeah I think this works for now but now I have a better idea of what I would like for a more permanent solution and it would involve being able to put my legs under!! I appreciate you sharing!!!
@@natashatheresa
@@user-kv3rj4cv8i for sure!!
I've gone the other way with a standing desk (one of those sit/stand numbers) and it is really helping so far even with just a few minutes of standing during the day and gradually I am able to stand for longer without my back and hips locking up which is a good thing.
I love this! I want to actually try out a desk that goes from the floor to the standing... I will be posting a video later today with updates!
I’m glad I’m sitting on the floor while watching this haha
HAHAHAHAA you already know what to do LOLLL
I got a secondhand Ikea desk after that Thoughtworthy Co vid. I love this way of working. Though I will say that if you need hours of deep work I still find myself slouching in front of a computer. If I try and do the constant movement I distract myself from the work I have to do. Anyway, it's better than chairs 100%
Thank you for sharing!! Yeah I really enjoy thoughtworthy co’s content, it got me thinking so differently about how to move about my day!
Get the gym rings. I've had a set for years and Idk why everyone's first step in fitness is a giant mega gym thingy. I used to have a 3 room apt with space for a freestanding squat rack, but now I'm in a studio. I bought one of those Vevor folding pullup bars to hang my rings on and I'm very happy with this setup.
Thanks for sharing!! Check out my most recent video as I did get the rings hehehe! I’ll check out your recs as well!
I did this for a long time because of poverty
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing. Hope you are doing alright now.
honestly I feel like, sleeping on the floor, or having minimal furniture is frowned upon by society bc it’s not the usual. But for me, in getting rid of all these things that now feel extra to me, I like there’s no pressure to show off to others or impress them by having certain things and then showing them off. But that’s just my mindset shirt that happened more recently.
@@natashatheresa how do you handle bugs? I live in Arizona. Between scorpions, ants (during the two rainy seasons), and spiders (deserts come with their own scavengers😝) I have a total fear of sleeping on the floor.
@@margiestevens2384 I would too if I had to deal with those lolllll! I know there’s also futon bed frames that are low but not on the ground so maybe that’s a better option when there’s critters. So far I’ve encountered 1 ant. That’s it lol.
I randomly stumbled upon your video and really love the way you present yourself-- it's really authentic and refreshing!
I do have to say though, as someone who has a lot of back problems, many of my chiropractors have said that sitting cross legged on the floor actually isn't good for you because the pressure accumulates at the base of your spine/lower back and there's not as much blood flow going through your legs over long periods of time. I imagine moving around definitely helps but I hope no one in the comments gets dissuaded from a standard setup with a chair as well. Your setup honestly looks fun, and I would try it if I didn't have so many issues myself.
I truly appreciate your kind and thoughtful comment! You are right, for sure, if I were to sit cross legged for a prolonged period of time it would be no bueno. I definitely move around like every 1-2 minutes, even as I make this comment hahaha. It's crazy too b/c I have actually had a lot of back problems especially after I had my kiddos, luckily i lived next door to my chiro so I could visit him regularly throughout my 30s hahahaha.
But I felt like, perhaps there were other things I needed ot look into which could be the source of my back pain. Personally, for me, I started exploring barefoot shoes and over the course of a year, my knees, ankles, and my lower back all seemed to get stronger. my lingering back pain faded into distant memory when it had been a companion for decade. It made me think more intentionally about how i move my body and how everything is connected from my toes all the way up to my head. I could write a whol eessay about how little changes I've made over the years have produced the limber 40 year old you see in this video LOLLLLLLL. of course, results may vary and one thing doesn't work for all, but as I sit here on my newly acquired zafu cushion, with my legs stretched undearneath my desk, i can see how it's helping my posture. In a few moments I'll switch it up as well.
I realized that part of my issue was i was spending sooo much time sitting - i would drive for many hours each week for commutes and for church purposes, I'd sit at my office desk hours on end barely moving. I had to find ways to counteract this, and while I worked out regularly and lifted weights, it really wasnt' enough to undo my normal actions throughout each day. So that is why I started modifying how i do things, at least the things within my control.
I thank you for being here and for sharing your knowledge as well! Ideally, I want to be able to do a mix of floor sitting, sitting at a chair, AND standing. That would be ideal to just keep mixing it up hehehe!
@@natashatheresa Oo I've never explored barefoot shoes... thanks for sharing your experience! At the end of the day it seems like moving more is the way to go 🙂
@@ibunnysaur1 yah I think that’s just it, move more, however works best for you! Hehehe
Love this for you!! New subscriber🎉
Thank you for being here!!!
Just an idea, you can get tables that go from coffee table height to regular dinning table height and fold out from desk size to dinning size.
Thanks that’s good to know! I’ll see if it’s in the budget hahahahaha
@@natashatheresa it's an alternative if things don't work out or if your family or guest disagree or have issues with transitioning the dinning table in the future. idk if you made a dedicated video about your coach change but defo do that and if you ever do the kids beds or desks or whatever, do a video on that too!
In my old house I had a large enough kitchen that i actually had both a regular dining table and a lower one and it was nice. I def will look into the variable height ones! I try not to have people come over HAHAHAHAHAH jk. And yes I'll also do a couch video soon! :)
“They creakin” totally cracked me up 😂. Now, Imagine people my age (53) who think I’m not normal for eating healthy, owning barely anything and walking and working out everyday.
