Although I already intuitively knew all these tips but I'm hopeful that listening to someone actually say them out loud will make me change my way of working :D I feel I haven't been doing great this year so I wanna make progress and enhance my work routine :) Thank you for sharing such important pieces of advice!
Great video Adrian, as usual! I found the third tip very important. When you start working as a freelance translator, it’s really tempting to accept any kind of job and work 24/7 to keep you busy. Mental and physical health are the most important thing if you want to succeed.

On the one hand I guess it's part of the journey and it's good to keep busy and try everything you can to gain experience, but on the other hand you're not only undermining your own abilities and worth, but also the entire industry's. I guess the point is to get out of this situation as quickly as possible.

I do marketing related translations - blog, SEO, product/service descriptions - mostly from Polish, but also from English, Italian, German and Romanian into Hungarian. My father is Italian, my mother is Hungarian and after my parents divorced, I grew up in Hungary with mom. That's why Hungarian became my mother tongue. Your Swiss story is also interesting! They are huge for sure. I definitely think in Swiss German. Spoken High German feels like a very close foreign language to me. And written High German feels perfectly normal. Very strange dynamic indeed, there is definitely a video planned on that sometime next year :)

One of my main goals for this year was in fact to improve my network - especially the real life one, but well... that didn't go as planned :D so I had to refocus and try to do something else. That's partly the reason why I started this channel as well. I'd say I noticed it after my business had become sustainable, because that's when this first motivation buzz disappears a bit and you are faced with normalcy. But if I had realised it earlier, the journey could have been easier I think :)
At what point do you recommend consulting an accountant? I'm currently pursuing an MA in Translation. Should I get an accountant as soon as I start freelancing, or only once I'm making a certain amount?
hmm that's hard to answer in general. I got one when I moved to Belgium. Just cause I didn't want to deal with a new tax system and I got recommended a trustworthy partner. At that point, I had been freelancing for about 2 years and had a steady income. I guess before that it doesn't make much sense yet.
Yes. To be fair, I was in the Netherlands and they made it super easy especially for companies in the first 3 years. So I guess it also depends on how well you know the tax system in your country of residence. It's certainly possible to do it on your own, but for me I figured out that it's not worth the effort compared to the investment of hiring someone.
