  • We were starting the fifth stage of the trip (you can see the previous ones in the links below) in which driving in Tunisia had totally changed of color. We had gone from driving in sand dunes to driving on the roads and cities of Tunisia. The adventure had taken an expected but less exciting turn.
Slowly we had to approach Hammamet, the last stop before embarking back to Italy. We would make the journey in one day. From Douz to Hammamet. It was approximately 450km of highway.
Before arriving in Hammamet, we would stop in El Djem. We would not have much time because we would arrive at lunchtime, but it would be enough to see its main tourist attraction: The Roman amphitheater of El Djem.
This amphitheater is one of the best preserved in the world. While some people were saying goodbye because they were boarding a day earlier and others were having lunch in the restaurant in front of the amphitheater, Isa and I took the opportunity to visit it. We paid a quite reasonable entrance fee to be able to lose ourselves for a while inside this building with so much history.
Leaving El Djem was a bit more chaotic... driving in Tunisia can be a big challenge depending on the time or the area you want to cross.
It didn't take us much longer to get to the hotel in Hammamet. It was the same one we had gone to the first night in Tunis. Exactly! The one where we spent less than 5 hours almost....
We had been delayed one day from the departure of the ship, so we had gained one more night in Tunisia. The next day we would go to visit another of the most famous villages of this beautiful country: Sidi Bou Said.

ATTENTION! Please note that in this vlog I share my trips, anecdotes and experiences about traveling gluten-free around the world. It is possible that, in some of my trips, I will go to a restaurant that is not certified as "gluten-free" where there is a risk of being contaminated with gluten. Please note that these references may change over time. Please always make sure before eating at the restaurants I share. Thank you very much!
