- At a remote atoll in the Maldives, Manta rays gather in large numbers for just a few weeks each year to feed on plankton that accumulates in a small lagoon. Will Jonathan manage to time his visit right and find the mantas?

I love how Jonathan encounters a manta in nearly every other video but struggles to find them in this one.
The silly things are just not predictable!!
I've always loved animals who just do their own thing. It's a sign of intelligence. I believe that we are severely underestimating the intelligence of these creatures.
Jonathan, your videos are one of a kind. As a sea lover myself, you have my deepest respect. Keep up the exciting videos! You inspire us all!
These mantas are exquisite and i see them as the ballet dancers of the oceans,so graceful❤
One of the most beautiful n graceful creature to ever roam the ocean of this planet
TripleTreuViet I agree.
Me too!
Mantarays are magnificent creatures, I hope to see some myself someday.
I have been to the Maldives 6 times and I can't believe I still haven't done this!!
They were coming to look at you. Mantas have the largest (or one of the largest) brain-to-body ratios of all fish. They're very smart and curious creatures.
Your videos are wonderful, by the way. Thank you for posting them. (:
Beautiful last shot of a fading manta! I love to see the silver fish swimming around!
Great footage of these awesome animals. They look like gigantic underwater birds.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Wow that's a lot of mantas
Is anyone else binge watching these videos?
+Oscar Bolt Hopefully!!!
Oscar Bolt me

Playing catch-up...
Your videos have certain calmness and they are fully informative... showing these majestic sea creatures in a beautiful way.... which is missing in the videos of discovery channel and other channels.
Muriel? She’s back. Oh, thank goodness.
Hook: Yo, darling, over here!
They are the eagles of the sea.

I you haven't ever seen these things before, I would imagine them to look very alien-like to you.
I looooooove the great white shark video
You rock
I'm a Maldivian I can't believe you are in Maldives
On every video with mantas they’re so friendly
Keep it up Jonathan! nice videos to break every day work routine.
Lol you dived wth twin hose. sufed with a normal reg. magic . beautyful vid by the way.
Oh you had to go and notice that!! My tank fell off the tank rack on the boat and bent the regulator. It had to go in for service. So the rest of the trip I had to use a single hose reg. We shot those two scenes on different days and ended up with a continuity issue. I was hoping nobody would notice! LOL!! ;-)
well not on my watch. I see everything. not really. I just look at minor detail. the smallest leak sinks the largest of boats. But dont worry it's not like its a movie or something. hope your reg is ok.
I am from the Maldives 🇲🇻
Wow!! Amazing video as usual, Jonathan! I'm going to the Maldives next summer - I can't wait!!
8:01 those sun rays man ...
I'm a Maldivian Whoooo you should visit Maldives more often
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!!!!!!! :)
What happens if you throw Manta out of a tall building or a helicopter? will they glide or fly? haha im just kidding but their swimming/flying skills in the water are impressive
your videos are amazing
Glorious
Your videos are so amazing!!
Thanks!
SUPER!!!
Is there any way you can provide links to the charter services, or any other providers, that you use during your adventures? I'd like to be able to check out the companies and places, to plan my own trips. Thanks so much!
Such beautiful creatures!!! Robert Irwin (Steve's son) recently filmed some himself!!! Sharky calls them sea angels, & I can't really disagree!!!
i am from the Maldives
hii i am from Maldives .. i love your videos
Hello 😊
@@BlueWorldTV hello :-)
Hey johnathan I freedive in kelpforests a lot and I have fed sting rays
what is ther defense
+Daniel Lindsey My only question is why hasnt Jonathan answered this in a year.
What happens or a fish gets caught in the manta's mouth?
CheLudo037 If it's a small fish, it gets swallowed, if it's too big to swallow, it gets spit out!
Just like a whale shark breeze through its mouth and the plankton get stuck on the gills then swallows them? So does a manta use its spiracles often
Why do you have completely different reg sets when you dive in/underwater and then when you’re talking at the ladder?
Continuity error! LOL
Have you considered doing some stuff in fresh water? There are some big ass fish in there as well!
***** How about this? Jonathan Bird's Blue World: Saving the Sturgeon
do they let you pet them?
***** We try to refrain from touching them but they do not mind being touched and in fact some mantas like being petted. Others like the feel of scuba bubbles on their bellies so they will swim over us.
the old let them come to you approach
that is good
BlueWorldTV I think there was an incidence where a manta that had a fishing line entangled in its mouth swim over to some scuba divers, as if it was asking for a little assistance.
The ocean is truly a wonderful place; wish I lived closer to the ocean so I could go diving and see the majestic creatures that live there! Hopefully, it'll be the case sometime in the future. I hope!
aww that is so awesome that it would do that
BlueWorldTV
i also saw that you can watch them feed at night with flashlights
dude 2nd episode and I'm already into it...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Che meraviglia !
Thanks! Grazie!
I wish I could swim with sharks and mantoure
Both here and with the whale shark episode before it, I found it funny that you never brought up the possibility of these giant filter feeders catching a person by accident.
Then again, in that instance, the diver would probably hurt the feeder more than the other way around.
They can't swallow something that big!
i am an indian living in mumbai near arabian sea
I live in maldives
Omg you actually went to Maldives I am from Maldives can you come again
You're life man. So cool. How do you get to do this - i mean in terms of qualifications.
what model is the regulator?
👍👍👍👍
What's the name of the 2nd stage that he's using as seem a rebreather? Thanks

Hello jhonathan

How come he doesn’t have one mill subs
1/3 of the way there!
i love you jonathan you inspier me to explore the sea .your bigest fan bridget
On the whale shark episode you said the whale sharks throat is about the size of a grapefruit so how big is a manta ray’s throat the size of a grape
Quite small....they only eat plankton.
So which weeks are ideal to go there?
Very hard to predict. It's a function of time of year, tides, phase of the moon.
are they called mantas or stingrays
Those are mantas, which are different from stingrays.
On the episode skates and raise you said that the manta ray doesn’t have a stinger so why is it called A ray
It's a ray....not a stingray.
BlueWorldTV on the skates and ray you showed that other rays Besides the stingray have spines on its tail for stinky for example the eagle ray you showed that it actually has three spines(stingers)And since he has those spines that’s why you say it’s called A ray
hey jonathan how many episodes you do every week?
1 a month
I'm thinking of going to the maldives either this summer or next, there's an organization there that studies whale sharks. Do you have any reccomendations for an airline to take from the US to there?
Which ever one has a good rate!
Jonathan I live in Maldives 🇲🇻
Like sharks me to raise have a cartilaginous skeleton so what do their skeletons look like
at 1:21 i was like : O
Don't touch the stingray's tail. The tail of stingray can sting you.
Jonathan it's not spelled doni it's spelled like thoni when dh is together it spells thoni as in dhoni and pls come to Maldives again I really want to meet you in only 12 so let me know when you are in Maldives again
