There's something magic about the way that the SNES compresses this, it's mindblowing
I don’t always like compressed music, but it can actually amplify the emotion, and feel of a song if done right which this definitely does because the voices being bit crushed actually makes me really emotional for some reason this song does in general it just feels like it’s what we will hear at the end of the world, but it also gives you hope that everything is going to be alright, and you should try your best like Mario, always does.
Everything is better when it's worse!
Earthbound
Gaussian resampling.
MMM seems to compress it further, i actually prefer that version, this one is softer
Mystery Meat aside, this actually sounds like something I would hear when entering an alternate universe.
Also the yellow cloud overlapping the 2nd hill makes it look like a duck.

Friend of mine sent me this song while we talked about the effect of gaming on lucid dreaming, and discussed the 'game mechanics' we've noticed in our dreams. It was one of the most cosmic moments I've had in months.
Heh, that's interesting actually. Where did those mechanics belong to (which genre: platformers, RPGs?..)
I would *love* to be able to lucid dream myself into this map's world, wew.
You know what, lucid dreaming would be a fantastic way to play a game and I just now realized I gotta learn how to dream lucidly
@@h2643 didn't get notifs on this post until now!
There's definitely a lot of RPG and platformer influence in the ways our dream worlds are laid out, but more than that, it's how things in my dreams despawn if I stop looking at them -- including entire streets or neighborhoods. I go looking for them and the roads that led there just don't exist anymore.
Or how sometimes I'll think 'defend' but I'll jump or take out my backpack instead, and feel like I've pressed the 'wrong button.' Sometimes my in-dream camera switches from first to third person, and so does my moveset. I can exploit glitches to superjump or 'fall' the wrong direction.
h2643 The big takeaway is, there’s studies saying that gaming makes you more likely to lucid dream in the first place, because you’re already used to having control of yourself in strange worlds with different rules.
‘Lucid’ can be a couple of different things tho. There’s having control of the dream, and there’s knowing that you’re dreaming. Those don’t always come in a packaged set. I always have ‘player control’ in my dreams, only a little bit of ‘world control,’ but I almost _never_ figure out that I’m dreaming. I start running on the walls and I go, ‘Finally! I’ve figured out how to do it in real life!’
Then I wake up.
Normally vaporwave is not my cup of tea but this particular track seems to be something of an exception. Either that or SNES soundchip vaporwave is just better than the original stuff.
how is it not?
its aesthetic
but not vaporwave
Federick Kailer that doesn't answer how it's not
this is vaporwave
@@KBC7050 Vaporwave typically relies on heavy modification of copyrighted songs until it becomes original again, to the point where you can reconstruct the song if you counteract the modification. An easier question is, how many samples is the song using and how long is each of them? You can make something vaporwave-like downpitching and slowing the vocals while skipping the record, but that's more chillwave at that point.

Same. I found my abandoned SMWCentral recently, and I'm shocked at how complex SMW ROM Hacking is, I remember times when putting a custom block or sprite was something amazing.
Nowadays, hackers can almost make entirely new games over the original SMW engine due to how well documented the game is, not to mention the new tools that I'm yet to get used to.

It's an abstract kind of feel.
Nintendo was wise to go with a sample-based sound chip instead of FM synthesis. It was a bit harder to source the instrument data for, but if used properly it can get some _very_ good results...

That green hill with eyes and the yellow cloud, that looked like a duck.
I've been thinking about this music non stop in the past few days. Incredible piece. Thank you.
This is a song that if you close your eyes while listening to it, you'll slowly start to get tired and begin to be a little introspective. It's calming, yet at the same time it feels as if something isn't right, you could fall asleep here, but in the moment, you can't rest, so many thoughts racing through your mind, so many things to think about, so little time. Whether it be something small and insignificant, or something important, it doesn't matter, what does matter is that you're stuck thinking regardless. Until eventually fatigue gets to you, and you can't think anymore, everything that was weighing down your mind, all of the worries and feelings of concern, anything that made it impossible to relax, slowly they disappear as you descend into the calm darkness that is sleep, until like clockwork the light wakes you up, and now those thoughts return, and for a brief moment in time, more than anything, you seek to re-embrace that darkness you found comfort in, but it's gone, fleeting as always, and you can't go back to sleep. Your day begins, you do what you must, until eventually the cycle repeats on loop for what feels like moments, but is in reality a life time, and one day that light won't wake you up, and the darkness you found comfort and peace within, claims you, and now as though you were a child once more, you fear the darkness you began to grow accustomed to finding comfort within. Maybe when you were little you knew to be afraid of the dark, not out of some irrational fear for what may lie within, but because you remember for whatever reason, the feeling of the dark's embrace, that moment in time when you lose any sense of self, maybe it's instinctual, or maybe you remember from when you were once someone else a long time ago, but regardless of your beliefs everyone at one point was afraid of the dark, and everyone refused to allow themselves to remain within darkness for whatever reason. And once more the cycle continues, those worries and thoughts return, you begin to desire the cold comfort of the darkness, until it claims you, and those thoughts leave you, only to do it all over again the next time ad infinitum.
All of this to say, it's a pain in the ass to fall back to sleep after being woken up when you don't want to.
