Recently, I've been making Chicken Vindaloo in the slow cooker. I like the 'Patak's Vindaloo Curry Sauce' jars (currently on offer at ASDA: £1.50 per jar - I use 2 jars), to that I add a small pack of 'Ashfields British Chicken Breast Mini Fillets' from Aldi. Seal the chicken in a frying pan for a few minutes, then bung it in the slow cooker with the sauce. Usually, I prepare it all in the morning, so plenty of time for it to cook before tea-time! Also from Aldi, I get their 'Worldwide Foods Classic Pilau Rice' and some 'Inspired Cuisine Onion Bhajis' and some mini-naan breads. That volume of chicken and sauce is good (for me anyway) for 4 portions - 1 portion for my tea and the other 3 portions go into foil trays and in the freezer, ready for the following weeks. 😋😋😋😋
I also use my slow cooker for curry sauces from a jar. Aldi vindaloo and madras are best I think and good value at £1-10 roughly. Beef is best I think in slow cooker, lovely and tender
Great timing Gareth! Saw these in Aldi today when looking for a Chicken Jalfrezi to have for supper after my day out in Blackpool this Saturday. I thought, wow, a Vindaloo. I'll have to try one next time, if I've nothing much planned for the following morning (you know where I'm coming from 😉😂) and here you are, reviewing it! You say it's not as fiery as those from takeaways and restaurants, but still has a kick to it, so great, deffo gonna get one next time cos I know I'll be safe the morning after 😂😂. What I do with those curries is, once I've removed any cardamom pods, and sometimes cloves, spoon the rice into a soup bowl, then pour the curry on top. You then automatically get some rice with the curry when you scoop it out with a fork or spoon. Another fantastic review. Cheers 👍
Omg that woke me up indeed when you mentioned my name with the videos. Ha Ha. Would you not use a spoon for getting both on it.. You enjoyed it and made us smile and poor Dusty going hungry again . Nice one M8.
Asda has large portions of curries...on offer you get 3 for 10 quid. You add your own rice. The vindaloo is very hot so you end up eating a lot of rice with it and it goes further. The other week I suggested you look at the new Asda frozen curry meals if you haven't already. For 2 quid or 2.50 (depending on offers). You get a curry, a side dish, and rice, plus the world's smallest bhaji or spring roll. One of the Indian ones and the Chinese one are good.
Thank you . Just so easy to throw in the microwave. I've moved onto mayflower and make the sauce that way . Saves a fortune when there's a few people to feed , just add chicken , peas and onion .. This is a quick handy meal for 1 though x
Try watch yer all the time gazza I watch your channel religiously when I come off nights before I take a kip all the best matey you deserve the recognition you get great stuff keep up the great work and say hello to the good lady and the nippers hat off
A massive shame that Morrisons discontinued their 'Volcanic Vindaloo' and 'Flaming Fiery Phal' lines. The best (and hottest) supermarket curries I ever tasted.
I'm lucky to have both Aldi and Lidl close by. They both do this type of ready meal for a similar price. The Lidl Butter Chicken is my favourite (Just about to put one in the microwave now!) I think the Aldi Jalfrezi is my next choice but may give this one a try tomorrow. Great vid as always!
I shop at Lidl every week and am always on the look out for new stuff. I love butter chicken but have never seen it in there before, so I generally add a few knobs of butter to an existing one, but you don't get the same result. Butter is too expensive these days to chuck half a block in to a curry!
Great review Gareth if i find a decent supermarket ping meal i usually Gaz it up as my family describe it just a some spice and sweetness in my case as i like a hot sweet curry will give this one a go and maybe Gaz it up a bit!!😋😋🌶🍒🌶
I sometimes think that I should really be coming home from these trips to Aldi, with more than just 6 Bottles of Beer. So I am always pleased to see you reviewing the latest produce from there… Unfortunately, my local Branch never seems to have any of this stuff you so expertly analyse. In fact my local always looks as if The Ant Hill Mob have just turned the place over.
Like the way you neatly separated the rice from the vindaloo 😂 looks really good, Aldi are certainly improving with the 'ping' meals 😋. Keep up the great reviews 👍
I remember being utterly confused when a friend ordered curry similarly with no rice... Still am confused, i like to have rice, chips and a naan..still more than happy to add a chapati😂
Hi Gareth hope you're well? Just catching up with your videos. Another cracking one. Can I ask you, do you have beer with a curry and if so what's a good beer to pair with a curry? Cheers 👍x
Hi again Gaz jus to let you know Simon from Real Ale Craft beer said thank you to you on his live last night for recommending his channel , hope your coronation weekend goes well mate 😀
I like the tikka masala they do at about £1.25 but I like my vindaloo too so might give this one a go. Bit heavy on the salt and sugar mind but its one of those you can throw in the freezer for a lazy day and get something tasty quick and easy. Hotter curries are long overdue and lamb ones even more overdue this might just open a little door 😊.
Have you tried the iceland finest chicken vindaloo??thats quite good not as hot as a bir standard but still v nice😁i think im gonna try try the 1 u just done as it looks ok n i always do em in the oven for some reason they taste better n come out better imo ...thanks 4 vid it had me dribbling😂😂😂
Great reccomendation gareth i just smashed one down after a lunchtime can of beer in the garden ! Living the dream 😉, god bless mate your channel is fantastic and really insightful youve not steered me wrong yet me ol china , take care my friend 👍
Hey Gaz👍there can be no complaints with that for 2 and a half quid😲 that looked pretty good tbh though it might be a bit hot for me as I'm delicate🤣🤣nice one mate see you in the live show✌️🍻
I like shopping at Aldi but they are crap at putting stock back out. Many times I've needed to ask and they fetch it from out back, especially if it's whiskey. That's my moan for the day!
😂 got it on my socks .. I couldn't stop laughing your poor wife having to do the washing 😂 needs to get you a bib . Great video Gareth but sadly I don't like Indian food sorry . Hope you and your family are keeping well sending you all love and prayers 🙏 God bless.
i like chargrilled chicken for the aesthetics and effort they put into making it more " authentic " tandoori oven style , its shocking the branded ready meals arent tandoori but supermarkets own brands are and are cheaper :)
Try Morrison's vindaloo - not sure if it's same recipe as last year, but I got one, and a Phall last year and they were almost too hot to eat, and I've been eating curries since I got onto solid foods in the late 60s......
I could see that napkin malfunction coming there, Gareth, as it was gradually breaking free from your shirt lol. You will have to start wearing them on your feet as well!

But £2.50 seems a bit pricey for what you get. Best thing is to get an decent Indian cookbook and the spices, much nicer but can be hard work but I usually make enough for quite a few meals

I can't recommend the Aldi Bistro range curries highly enough, large portions and very filling. We love the buttered chicken.
Agreed. OST of Bistro range quite good
Are those the ones that don't come with rice? They're the best ones as I just like a naan with a curry instead of rice.
@@Matt19matt19 Yes, that's the ones.
Love their curries, can't go wrong, especially for the price.
That looks really nice!
Put it in a serving bowl, sprinkle a bit of coriander on the curry, and you can serve it in a restaurant...
Tasty!! 😄
thats just great av gotta go get some of them now
You know folks. I never have rice with a vindaloo. I always have Chapatis . Mrs Singh showed me how to eat it.
I mix the curry with the rice THEN eat it with chapatis. Yom!

At my local they seem to be constantly restocking while you are there. Also products get buried under the shelves so you can’t see them.
I've noticed Gareth, your fridge needs more of your Grand children's paintings 😉
Im going to Aldi tomorrow Gareth. Usually just Tesco or Asda.
