    Uncle Roger is Nigel Ng, he doesn't actually speak that way. He's a comedian and Uncle Roger is a character he plays as. You should check out other videos with Hersha and Uncle Roger, it's entertaining!

      He doesn't speak that way in English but it's his family's accent and if you listen carefully in his normal accent you can hear small bits of it in him too. But you wouldn't notice without knowing already, he mostly has a British accent since he lives in London. But the character is based on his dad.

      That’s usually how I do it, yeah. But I normally use a pressure cooker, so I don’t know if this applies to stove-cooked rice.

      My dad gave me the worst back slap of my life when I made this mistake as a 13-year-old. I'm 25 now. I live in a Filipino household where as kids if you mess up, you're getting either the belt, the broomstick, the wooden spoon, or the slipper as disciplinary tools.

      That might be a Chinese thing to do. You can also measure the water by just seeing. Of the rice is 'just' submerged. That is enough water!

      @@DanThomasUK To me he sounds more Vietnamese than Chinese, which makes sense to me since Ng is a pretty common Vietnamese family name. I don't know any Malaysians or Cantonese though, so maybe they have similar accents.

      @@AsagisLifeNoBSJapan it’s not a big deal if you don’t use the finger method honestly. I don’t do it because I have eczema on my hands so obviously I’m not going to make them itchy everytime I cook rice lol. Most packages of rice tell you how much water to use per cup of rice anyway, and if you soak your rice for about 2 hours beforehand you generally use less water anyway.

    Here in Brazil we eat rice on a daily basis, and we always wash the rice, and we usually fry it before cooking it, and at the end it should always be cried and the grains should be loose from each other. We eat it with everything, fish, chicken, beef, but mostly with beans. We Brazilians are also outraged by this BBC Rice recipe. LOL

    That chef must have been giving a heads up warning to people who watched a Better Tomorrow 2,when one of the scenes involved fried rice being insulted after it was literally tossed onto the floor by a very angry "patron". Chow Yun Fat's character got upset that the patron disrespected the fried rice.

      @@DanThomasUK Even if you don't own a rice cooker you can make good rice with a saucepan if you just put the correct amount of water. If you have the right amount it's even less effort to make, because you won't have to drain the rice.

    of all the Japanese that i know, i only have one friend that knows the relationship between rice and the first joint of 人差し指 .. lol
    actually i tried this method with koshihikari, and the rice looked so sad and i heard Uncle Roger said "your rice too wet, you fakked up!" in my head :(

      generally this rule only works with standard rice (medium lenght) sushi rice and long grain rices cook under different circumstances at least thats what I have seen when cooking rice in culinary school i might just be crazy

      The best rice to use with Fried rice is the Long grained ones like Jasmine. Sticky rice has a lot of starch so it's better to use them for rice cakes instead of fried rice

    Even in Philippines we measure the water using finger,all he mentioned we use here in Philippines and msg for traditional food,now im not astonished cause of our asian roots..

    I use MSG in much of my cooking. It's like a boogeyman here, but it's basically just a type of salt - as long as you don't go to crazy with it, it can benefit the food.

    Uncle Roger is just acting that way putting on a heavy chinese accent. He actually has a normal american accent, though he grew up in Singapore and Malaysia (I think).
    He also does one for Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey so you should totally react to those as well ^^

      He is Malaysian but I believe he lives in the UK now. His normal accent is kinda like a mix of British and Chinese. And honestly, after watching Jamie Olivers version, I think the BBC version isn't even that bad
