This crowd was far more active than the Los Angeles show. You can’t be laid back at a show like this. Thank you for sharing, this was the next best thing to actually being there.
Well, from being a fan since 1986. Interesting to see what that band is in 2017. Sounds good. But the stage presence has definitely changed completely.
management? make no mistake, most bands today tour non stop not because of bad deals with management or labels, it is because US "the fans" stole music big time during the 90s and now keep stealing thru online streaming which gives peanuts to artists like slayer and others. If you care for Tom not to have to work hard until he is 80 then we must buy CDs, buy vinyl, do not stream, do not download mp3s, put the money where our heart is.
Are you fucking deaf?? Listen to videos of Tom if you weren't lucky enough to see him back then, from 83-91, and say that his vocals are better than before. UNREAL how fucking delusional some fanboys are
Thomas Schneider im pretty sure Tom doesnt mind people thinking he is doing a good job despite the age and load on his vocal chords. Why do you get so hot and angry? Dude, get some treatment and enjoy the music. troll
The Cantrell Project I was thrashing in the crowd on the World Sacrifice Tour in 1988. Slayer is my favorite band of all time, but I will NEVER not speak the truth, and the truth is, the band needs to hang it up. I've seen them in the states, in South America and parts of Europe over the last nearly 30 years. During that c time with Lombardo, Bostaph and Dette on drums (unfortunately not with Scaglione in '87) and it kills me to see Tom NOT headbanging, talking half of his lyrics and screaming here and there, and worst of all, not seeing Jeff. Regardless if Gary is family and is an exceptional player; he simply is NOT Slayer. Kerry is the main force that has kept the band going forever, and he is still more or less the same since the '94 Divine Intourvention tour when he debuted his shaved head on stage and then got inked up. BUT, Slayer is NOT one person. Slayer is, and will ALWAYS be, Tom, Jeff, Kerry and Dave, and then followed VERY closely by Bostaph, albeit still not a member pertaining to THE core. And even then, with all 4 members present, it was a reciprocal force that they all had and fed off of from each other. You could FEEL and SEE this when they shared the stage together and listened to the albums. Now, as Repentless showed, it is simply a paycheck and a job to them. If it were not contractually binding and not necessary to go out and tour for 3 years in support of, they would NEVER write another album. They've even said that. That's why the magic was leaving before Hanneman died anyway. The saddest thing to see, as I used to be the same way back in the 80's and early 90's, is that c their die hard fans will support then no matter WHAT they do, ave that is cult like behaviour. If an artist does amazing work, they should be praised. However, every artist has hit bumps in the road, and has created works that simply ate not good, and being one myself, I would prefer if I was told that, so that i could remedy the situation and try to fix what went wrong. The fact that an album as mediocre, boring, lifeless and one dimensional as Repentless has been successful due to this undying allegiance regardless of quality, truth and subjective critique, shows that the Kerry and Tom can do as little as possible and regardless of how good it is, will buy it and then come out to the show to see the same songs played over and over and over again. They see the opinion of the fly by night masses and think that's what the true fans want. True fans could go to a Slayer show and NEVER see "Raining Blood", "Angel Of Death" and pick ANY of the same 20 songs played every time with one or 2 differences each tour, and be perfectly content as having already seen 30 times over. I would rather see "Praise Of Death", "Kill Again", "Evil Has No Boundaries", "Fight Till Death", "Metal Storm/Face The Slayer", Haunting The Chapel", "Tormentor", "Kill Again" and on and on than EVER see Raining or Angel EVER again. But the band is so out of touch and clueless, they think they HAVE to pay these "staples" like "Dead Skin Mask" etc. Look, the crowd is half in he fucking bag as is and don't know what song is what as long as they can thrash around/mosh, and drink and go nuts to loud music, and the rest of the fans just go as they are the cult like ones who eat shit sandwiches and will beg for more as long as made with Kerry's colon. Then, there are the true die hard Slatanic Wehrmacht disciples who quit going to see the band religiously every tour and show or opportunity, as there really is no point to go anymore. It is boring and really only exists for new fans, cult like fans, and those who just want to go fuck shit up at a show. Trust me, this is truer than you know, as all old school guys ive known as early as late 80s who worshipped Slayer, have given up as I have, and we watch old vhs/DVD or CZcams recordings of shows where they band played 99% songs they NEVER play anymore. That's why this pandering to the new Johnny come lately fans and girlfriend metal scene, playing only the songs those pukes know, while the old school thrashers like me and my band mates who have shared the stage with the band many many times (and sentiment shared by most of all others who do not dare say to their faces cas they are in return feeding their mouths and paying their bills) are pained every time we go to see the band and see THIS as on video. It doesn't matter how good someone is, how exact the band replacement members pull off their parts etc, it is simply without the magic that was once ALWAYS there. To try to make better sense, look at Gary Holt, who is a FAR better player than Jeff EVER was, and Kerry is, but that has NOTHING to do with the magic of Slayer, which is why Jeff and Kerry will forever be known and remembered TOGETHER even to those who do not even listen to Metal, whereas Gary is a Metal icon only, and is only known to that genre. Hell, when he took over after Jeff had fallen ill, the boards and social media sites were FILLED with "who is this guy?" and especially to the younger generation. Yes, that sucks as Holt is one of the BEST guitarists alive today in my opinion, but that c only goes so far. My parents know who Kerry and Jeff are, and that's because of the MAGIC of the band unit as a whole.
You're not too far off. I see Slayer now as Tom, Bald Kerry, the guy from Exodus and the Other Guy. Last time I saw them, Kerry had hair. Anyway, I saw the Pittsburgh show and Paul did pretty well. It's hit or miss. I hear his bass drum clearly except only for the times he is supposed to do the fast double bass parts. Then it drops out entirely. Both Charlie B from Anthrax and Dave L went to Dom Famularo on Long Island for instruction on mastering the fast double bass technique he created in the 1970s. I guess Paul didn't bother to look him up. That mini solo is a hard part, but he should master it before going out on tour. It might have been just a bad night.
drheim1 ..FUCKEN SATAN SLAYER!!!!!!!..DAMMMNNN!!!!..STILL CRUSH TODAYS GENERATION APART!!..A PURE DEATH TO ALL KIDS!!..NO MATCH TO \SLAYER/!!..TO EVIL AND POWER!!!!
Bostaph is such a horrible drummer. His bass drum and snare are almost half beats apart on the real fast songs so it sounds like he is trying to play swing rather than driving metal. Also he just hits the ride cymbal without caring about keeping time. Real annoying....bring back Lombardo.
Ok. So I wasn't the ONLY one thinking it sounded like he was swinging everything. Normally, I'm Bostaph Fan Boy #1 and always prefer him to Dave (in Slayer), but this was kind of a strange performance. Now ... Dave playing with Suicidal... THAT is the shit.
I've been a drummer for decades, and it's tough to argue with you. I saw the Pittsburgh show on June 9th. Paul has a REALLY hard gig. Taking Dave's place is not easy. He should have gone to Dom Famularo for a few months before the tour like Charlie did. He created the rapid double bass technique in the 1970s. I hear Paul playing the thrash beat on 2 and 4 like normally, but he rapidly goes to 1 and 3 when things get too fast or after a fill. Its clunky and awkward. I'm trying to be as nice as I can to a guy with a really tough job.
It sucks they are not coming to AZ At always I seen them back in 2016 😭
The intro is the last thing you hear before all hell breaks lose
I was there. Sound was awesome! SLAYER killed it!
I was there, and I still get the goosebumps.

This setlist differs significantly from the one they brought to Toronto a few months before in May... seems as if there are more deep cuts in NYC.

Tom Araya, singing better the older he gets
So when they are 80 and still having to tour cause management is stealing their money, he should sound great.
