Shinsuke Sato, the director behind the Japanese hit movie Kingdom and it upcoming sequel, is set to make his English-language film debut with My Hero Academia, Legendary’s live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga franchise created by Kohei Horikoshi.
The live-action version of "My Hero Academia" is being produced by Legendary Entertainment, the company behind such hits as "Godzilla vs. Kong," "Man of Steel" and "Jurassic World." Here's what we know about the movie so far.
According to Variety, Legendary announced it would produce a live-action version of "My Hero Academia" in 2018, but little news has been released about the project since then. While COVID-19 likely impacted the production's progress, the report that Shinsuke Sato will helm the project indicates the movie is gaining traction. However, no release date has been announced.
But don’t be sad. We have some good insight news from legendry that the scripting of my hero academia is completed and they are finding perfect cast for the movie. The production will start as soon as the cast is finalized and ready to go. From some sources legendary studios is planning to release it in 2023. That means we can hope that we will see teaser trailer soon.

@@inputcontrolled490 All of it. The animation is simplified. They used less movements and more freeze frames. Scenes have been shortened or completely deleted (while they had the time to insert episodes that aren't in the manga). There is notably less violence - even this is the most violent arc in the manga.

Shinsuke Sato is my favorite Japanese director. He has made amazing shows such as Alice In Borderland and his adaptation of Bleach live action was the ONLY good live action on Netflix imo. He seriously knows what he's doing and I'm trusting he'll do an amazing job with this as well. I only hoped that the cast would be Japanese only but oh well.

@@strbrrydrgn The reason most of the One Piece Cast are American is that, despite being approved by it's creator, Eiichiro Oda, it's being run by Netflix of all things. I don't know if you noticed, but Netflix has a bad reputation for turning good anime into crappy live action.

Furthermore, instead of Netflix, the new My Hero Academia Live Action Film is being distributed by Toho Co., Ltd, which is a Japanese film, theater production and distribution company. It has its headquarters in Chiyoda,Tokyo.
I hope so. I also hope they'll make this a Japanese movie instead of an English one.
Here’s the thing with live action remakes, when they’re made months or years after the show has been popularized and making the movie based on a certain episode or arc as it seems to be the case in this video, it’s going to be hard to meet any fan’s expectations since the fans are so used to seeing the characters in a certain style and recreating episodes in live action makes catching that lightning in a bottle without getting shocked becomes a whole lot more difficult
I will hold out hope for this though but my expectations aren’t that high

This is going to fail. Unless they're able to keep these young actors from aging then this is never going to work. The problem with MHA is that while it is a 10/10 anime the fact that we're going into season 6 already within the anime...it's still technically the kids freshman year of high school. Now if you can tell me how they're going to do this without doing a hundred plus retcons to the timeline then by all means tell me. This could only work as a TV series. A movie would be a sure fire way to lose millions of dollars. We'd have a full blown Dragon Ball Evolution or Avatar the Last Air Bender situation on your hands. MHA is an amazing anime there is no doubt there, but it is not made for live action. To make it live action would be the stupidest thing any producer could do. A sure fire way to do nothing but lose money and guarantee that there will be no sequal.

If they ever did actually make a live action movie of this series, I feel like it would ironically be best to have people handle it who also work on the MCU. Especially considering that the series is heavily inspired by stuff like Star Wars and western comic book heroes. It would be a perfect way to adapt them to live action without it being too campy. But also because a lot of these projects are taking inspiration from anime anyways. So the people working on it are also going to have that anime flare to it.
I’m referring to costume design, casting, visual effects, action scenes. The writing I think could be handled by someone else. Someone who will handle the story more properly.
