- TODAY IS FANTASTIC DAY! WE DROVE A TOTAL OF 11 HOURS FOR THIS VW GOLF R, THE CAR IS SO CLEAN! 3 DOOR DR BLACK GOLF R DSG IS THE MODEL & TRANSMISSION! GETTING THE EXTRA'S LIKE PAN ROOF / GLASS ROOF, 18 INCH ALLOYS & UPGRADED SOUND SYSTEM WAS A MUST!! REALLY REALLY HAPPY WITH IT!

Congrats on your purchase I’ve been a proud owner of a 7R for 2 years now and love it!
One recommended cheap mod is to buy a coding device called OBD11 (£40 or so IIRC) and code the exhaust valves to permanently open, makes the exhaust sound louder all the time and is brilliant! The coding app is stupidly easy to use.
VWROC is a really good free VWR owners club website too very useful stuff on there daily.
You could just leave race mode on 😀

I seriously considered one myself a few months ago, but eventually when compared to what I eventually bought, the Golf was just a bit too numb and uninvolving to drive. So M140i it was for me.
I did a lot of mountain biking, and none of the roof mounted racks or tailgate mounts were very good.
Not only is it a pita getting it on/off the roof, you also end up with clumps of mud all over your shiny paintwork.
Just get a towbar fitted (I had a westfalia detachable one), and get a towbar mounted Thule bike carrier, MUCH better, and you can still tilt them and open the tailgate.
This is exactly the spec I would get, I had the same spec in the golf gti. DSG is a must 🙏

I would have recommended to get the facelifted version though, much higher in tech, has dynamic lighting and just looks that little bit more modern i think ;)

Moon roof will definitely open with the roof rack on. I also have a 3 door mk7 with Thule roof rack!! Mine is a 6speed manual trans!!!

Toreet, I had on mine the VW roof rack because the pan roof and was perfect fit, I had Thule ProRide 598’s fitted, don’t get 591’s not very secure and don’t forget they don’t fit ebikes on roof r kid

Harry don’t buy the Thule bars, VW do their own ones that fit the same, but look much better as they are designed for golfs, the Thule bars stick out from the side and just don’t look great. Then buy Thule bike racks. This is the setup I have on my 67 plate golf gti and it looks sweet!

What year is this R? I like it more than the digital cockpit. I want to get the last year that has normal analog gauges. I feel like the digital cockpit may be kinda cool, but the moment you have an issue it's going to be thousands to repair/replace! Great car mate!
