I had JC 2-1. Niggaz was GASSING Gjonaj, and though Gjonaj had some decent bars, a lot of 'em weren't really THAT good. Not to mention his delivery needs a lot of work. This wasn't the best of JC I've seen, and he fucked up chokin' in the 2nd, but I thought he came better overall. My 2 cents.....

What you do when you analyze a battle is your business whether I or the masses agree with you or not is something else entirely. I don't care who won or who lose. I'm strictly commenting on your comment about the reach. Pronunciation plays a big part in word play. People have been saying Arkansas and "all kin saw" for a minute, so I get it. But I don't care how many different ways you pronounce pentagon correctly, it is not going to be pen is gone.

As much as I seem to "hate" on Gjonaj in certain public-esk or community-like networking pages - I end-up always eating my words & having to man-up & admit, that my animosity towards him can most likely be identified as a subconscious reaction outta pure admiration of his natural talent. See myself comin' in fucked up, I came in making huge ethical errors like being WAYYY TOO twisted or pilt, or underestimating, ill-preparing, which resulted in things like choking, bad or forced delivery of bars, failed set-ups, ect.. So.. I needed a boost in this culture from my class & local hip-hop-head peer-group just to develop & hone my craft. Gjonaj didn't. He's had whatever you may believe that "it" is, to be GREAT - amongst the greats, & stand your ground from the gate. Gjonaj was definitely one of the Bar Wars "Originals" (that I like to call the "engineers of the new brand") - & definitely the "frontman" that I had followed off the dribble for the particular reason of "catching-on" & learning what "ideal penmanship" is all about, & what it should sound (& in a sense, LOOK) like.. Guys like him taught me what appeals to the crowd. I admire his (& others) ability to have recognized this alone, and believe me, this ain't no misplace homage, or some shit - I'm just being honest - I ain't gonna hold nobody up about it.. In retrospect, I can say I've always had a respect for his conviction & his ability to stand up against the "giants" in this game with no reason to believe he's a lesser man than they, or that he owes them something for getting THEIR name next to his. He could care less about it & deep-down I believe that's the key to successful presentation, which is an oh-so-valuable aspect of this trade. So at this point, I'm not even really gonna get into talking about Gjonaj's pen- OR his showmanship, nor his performance or BARS, or his delivery.. I think the footage (along with his other footage) speaks for itself on his behalf for that matter. Even with a shorter resume than most of the top tiers statewide - Gjonaj gets recolonized & recovers national attention & top-status amongst hometown "elites". I don't see him gettin' downplayed by anyone real talk, cuz really unless there's a REAL "match-up" involved in the discussion.. At that point it's usually something like a locked battle, a speculated possibility, or "trash-talk" amongst the warriors with more prestige & a true name, & let's be honest; those kinda emcees don't get beside themselves, talkin' all that jazzy-shit, unless there's a sense of respect for his skill, & mutual understanding that the match-up has true, classic-like potential. SO.. As much as I say I hate em' - Gjonaj (along with other Original Bar Wars artists for example, Phibbs, T-Millz, Blang, Blessed, Drow, ect or further-rostered artists like Trap, StackBoyChuck, GG, Vicious, ect.) - is gonna (& all other great performers; named & NOT-named, are going to, or have the vast ability to) go far, especially once grasping that limit of their maximum identified potential.. & FURTHERMORE - if BattleRap continues to get play & recognition from legacy-bearing legends like Em, Joe, Busta, Diddy, hell - Even Bow-Wow with UFF - & it starts to hold water while the trend of the culture evolves & can remain "airing" on more forms of nationally ranked television outlets such as BET, MTV, BOUNCE, or for example - if were to become something that was a stable attraction with semi-prominent ratings on say, a channel like SPIKE TV - & new cards & match-ups aired weekly as opposed to once a year or quarterly.. WEEKLY CARDS - in the form of a reality show like "American Idol" or "___________'s Got Talent" in other-words, I suppose I mean if BattleRap were to go "main stream" & it got poultry enough, from this point, I won't deny later that I said it right now, that Gjonaj will be mentioned amongst the best. Dude's got a damn decent movement behind him & a "different" but excellent direction, and I predict him to be a near-future force to be reckoned with. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. I get a feeling like we haven't seen SHIT yet from Gjonaj really.. He may be holding back & doesn't even know it himself. I think Most decent or average emcees could possibly be BUMS compared to Gjonaj at his 50%! I get the idea that he's toying with the disbelief - so I'm eager to see the rabbit-out-of-the-hat-type shit that I'm bankin' on Gjonaj to cash-in on real soon on upcoming out of state platforms. All in all, the kidd is nice wit it to break it down simply..

Honestly: Regardless of him pop-lockin on a video, or singin' or whatever the fuck, who cares? It STILL - CANNOT be denied his hard-earned & well deserved, established persona as a TRUE, new-age pioneer & arguably, if fuckin NOT - EASILY, one of the best to ever take the floor & the stage, & take care of business outta Michigan. His resume alone, speaks for itself.. IMO: JC let the world know that the Yak ain't on no bullshit - He let em' ALL know that the Yak ain't like sukka-ass Mt. Clemens just cuz it's a club-jumpin' city - he the shinning proof that there's real talent, & it's comin' from some REAL PEOPLE in Pontiac. To use a sort-of weak analogy, he was one of the greats that damn near stapled the map to the wall, pin-pointed Pontiac, put the bulletin-pin in the dot, & showed it to be square-up on the map with any other major city in the country. Neither capital, nor size, nor stature don't count on this battle field & it gets brutal from time to time.. Now, (because of him & plenty others not mentioned), the world knows that Detroit ain't the only place in the glove that has potential.. Aside from his legacy & as far as his talent or ability.. Well.. IMO: JC is hands-down, the "KING of Consistency" & not only that, but a hard-worker. You could think of him as a sort of "rain-maker" out of town - persay.. He has a rapid prep-completion rate, coupled with the ability to be persistent & a cool-headed, guaranteed LOCK-ON for good-to-great-to-greatest footage. I can say that JC's a phenomenal performer, & is given no such doubt by anyone - of his capability to deliver. He works angles a completely different way than the culture as a whole, has manipulated artists like myself (who need to sorta study the game more closely in order to evolve) to navigate them towards the punch-line & no matter how drawn out it may seem, when JC arrives at the destination of his purpose for working that angle - it's almost ALWAYS brings it right back home. In the ring, he's either a straight-up beast, or a slightly in-favorable upsetter.. If he "loses", it's never really clear-cut.. Because of this nature, I tell you that JC has been on my personal "top 5 list" since I got the "bug" to wanna try my hand in this bloody brain-sport.. (The battle that popped that fuse, is the one that damn near got us ALL to turn and REALLY look at em') - Yea, I'm referring to the JC vs Chilla Jones PG on SMACK URL. That is also STILL - one of my favorite battles to this day.. That specific footage, sparked the pilot of my interest, & set my passion for this culture in full-motion.

As far as the footage that this tread is specifically regarding, I'll start by shortly repeating that I greatly respect both of these artists, & this was definitely a classic in my eyes, despite some small discrepancies.. I did KINDA, have a hard time choosing a winner but no bias, I give it to Gjonaj 2-1. Honest Abe. Great showing for both tho. I look forward to seeing both of their careers a year+ from now. OUT.
