    Thanks again😀
check engine light came on. played around with the car a little more. the car stalls. when shifting to reverse hard shift. when placing car in D hard shift. when you drive it, it starts off in 5th gear. when put into tiptronic mode the shifter reads has gear 5. now when driving i have only 2 gears in tiptronic mode. im assuming 5 and maybe 3 or 4. later on that day i turned the car on and everything went away, the hard crank, the stalling, and the weird shifting. the next day i turn the car on and all of the symptoms came back. i went to autozone and they read the ecm with a cam shaft position sensor in bank 2 as the issue. my only question is would the cam shaft positioning sensor cause the car to shift crazy and only have reverse and 2 gears? and all the things i have mentioned? and is there a way to reset the ecu to see if it really is a sensor or just a hiccup. im all ears for sugestions before i bring it to the dealership and fork out hundreds of dollars.

Hey guys if anyone here does a little of their own work on their Maxima's? Here''s a little tip when changing out the plugs. The front plugs are easy to get to. The rear.... one has to remove the Plenum. Sort of like an air manifold on top of the engine. Not too hard. The kicker here is the two bolts behind the "tunnel" that connects the air intake assembly to the throttle body and the Plenum. They're hard to access but it can be done. I think they may be a #12 socket or #12 ratcheting wrench. Be patient!! They may be hard to crack but they will come off. Once all that stuff is free of the engine? You have a clear space to do your work to either change out your plugs or maybe a bad coil or two. Good luck to you. And "The Good Life" Bless you sir...You remind me of when I was a young back yard mechanic...

Can't thank you enough for posting this video. I was freaking out thinking I needed to buy a new transmission. Saw your video, pulled the B-Bank sensor out in less than 5 minutes, got to Advance Auto 10 minutes before closing, changed the sensor in another 5 minutes and booom! Car started with no issues and ran like new. After 166,000 miles I am barely breaking it in. Thank you

Thank you so much; I was having exactly the same issue with my Maxima. Hard shift on Reverse! I thought I was going to have to replace the trany. I couldn't believe this little sensor could fix it. Love CZcams, loved the video. Bought the sensor at Autozone for $64.00. Beautiful thing!

This video was so awesomely helpful and saved me from taking my car into an autoshop. I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5SL automatic that suddenly began hardshifting itself to 5th gear. Check engine light flared up. It was the left side cam shaft sensor, the same as the video, that went bad. Unbolting that sensor was difficult, we had to get a swiffle socket on a long extention rachet to unskrew the 10mm bolt. Also, we couldn't pop out the old sensor by pushing on the green piece, we broke the green piece actually while pinching it with a large pair of plyers. This turned out okay when plugged the new sensor into the plug that holds the wires. Phewf! To clear the engine light from the dashboard we removed both the + and - connections on the battery, then tightened them back on to the battery. I started up my car, no engine light illimunated, drove it around 20 minutes and the camshaft sensor worked properly for my transmission to shift like normal again. OMG what a day!!! My brother found this video and we replayed it over and over.. totally saved the day and money. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @joyladner986
      @joyladner986 Před 10 lety +1

The cam shaft sensor was only $65 at Autozone and comes with a lifetime warranty. The swivle socket on a long extension rachet were a MUST to unskrew the 10mm bolt. Those two tools where about $35 together at Autozone.

I have a 2004 maxima that i bought new, it only has 67k ml on it now, a few few years after i bought it did the same thing with very little miles back then, long story short, Nissan replaced 4 transmission since then not counting the one that came with the car! All under warranty . Now it just did the same the same as you described in your video! I wandered if these so call mechanics even know of this issue, I will definitely do that and replaced both banks, I had read some blogs about the same subject that prompted me to look up in CZcams, THANKS SO SO MUCH for posting this!! I know is years later but nonetheless!!!

Man, you're video saved me hundreds of dollars and a lot of stress. Thanks so much! For those of you who have the sensor in Bank 1 going out, it's not that hard to change. It's not as easy as the one in bank 2 that he's changing, but for Bank 1 you only need to get the air intake out of the way and the sensor is more accessible.

Wow. See that's why I'm not using the ones I have on eBay. I started getting that TCS and slip signal also and same thing on the gear and kick on switching gears. But what made this obvious for me, I got an oil change and it's using synthetic oil and boom! That's when it began to mess up and my old battery too. My problem now it began after 1 month using the ones from eBay, bank 1 is faulty and I'm happy to say I bought the ones from autozone and it costed me 97 bucks for the sensor I needed. Man, you video proves me that it has nothing to do with the transmission. Thanks man

I replaced my camshaft position sensor because it took a bit longer to start & when I plugged it in the car wouldn't start at all.
So I thought it had to be the crankshaft position sensor. So I bought a fault code scan tool that bluethooths to my phone. Sure enough, it was the crankshaft. I replaced it & sometimes it takes a bit to start & sometimes it starts right up.
I'm still getting the cam sensor code. I got it on Amazon & when you said don't get it online I thought that's got to be it then.
I got both cam & crank sensors online.
    Thanks for the video.

Had the same issue on my 2005 Maxima SE and changing the left camshaft sensor saved me a ton of money. Glad I came across this video. I spent an extra $20 for a Duralast and it fixed the problem...

Hey everybody. I've had this problem to. So if you have this problem please change both sensors that's shown on this video even tho he only changed one. The sensors ain't that much. I bought both of mine at autozone for around $90-$100 for both. I wish I saw this video before I took my car to nissan to get it diagnosed which was $100. I'm just happy my car is back to normal. So get both sensors and change both at the same time. And to reset your ses light. Just disconnect your positive battery for 30 min. That's what I was told by nissan. Good luck everybody.

Thank you. I will try this. My 2005 Maxima at 88,000 miles is just starting to have this transmission problem. I've pampered it since day one. However I'm at it's early stages of problems and reading online there's a major problem with these 04-06 Maxima's. I read it's the speed sensor, turbine sensor, and/or camshaft sensor. All seem to be related with the transmission in moving the gears up and down properly. I'll follow up for results when I change these. I don't want to rebuild the entire transmission just yet ($1200-$3500) as it's still in VERY good condition.

Wow..I have had transmission problems since the first week. Not shifting ,,then shifting to fast. .. I was going nutz. Not wanting to start, then .. retarding the timing all the way to the bottom. Thanks big time for the help. Everyone else was saying bad CVT .

Hey i had a lil fender bender not so long ago and my car just started knocking hard when going reverse and a lil hard going to drive. after it warms up it doesnt knock as hard. when i try to park and hit reverse and hit it back to drive than reverse it knocks really hard. people is saying its the motor mount and i just found out this from this video that it might be the camshaft too. cause when i head to work and just turn on my car let it warm like for 30 sec than take off, sometimes it feels as if i accelerate and it quit giving power like it jerks as if i shift wrong. any idea what could it be? i got a 04 maxima se
