😅😅😅😅😅 watching this video I can't stop laughing and smiling. I'm so joyful to see you enjoy South Africa as we enjoy it as much. We take for granted how much our life is balance. If you on leave or vacation or sick or weekends or holidays no one is expecting anything from you and I wouldn't trade that for anything. My relaxation time is my time so you make me appreciate my country so much. Happy father's day, I'm on my way to church, have a wonderful Sunday ✨️

Happy that the kids have now been sorted. I have to say the new minister of home affairs have been busy overhauling the entire system in home affairs, this is after numerous scandals and fraud cases involving illegal immigrants had been discovered in SA so this would make sense. We hoping for the best on your visas and hopefully the parents will also be sorted soon.

My fear is that some slave investor might be watching AAs leaving the US, UK, and Canada and thinking of a strategy to drive fear enough for AAs and other diasporas discouraged from moving to Africa, and what's the worst fear that they could create, political instability, perhaps even funding criminals to worsen levels of crime. It's just my paranoia I guess.

Enjoyed this conversation! If Carla likes the ocean and Indian food, then Durban - and other parts of KZN too- is a must. The water is warmer (the warm Benguela current) than in CT. Also, because Dbn has a subtropical climate, the winters are very mild -altho Durbanites think 16°C is "freezing" 😉😂. Insha'Allah your visas will be arriving very soon.
Happy Father's Day to you, Asad (and to your father too).

Truth be told they can't afford any of you. You choose to sell your time for what they are offering. if they told you to name your price, that number would or should have so many zero's behind that first number they would pass out. SA is going to be an adventure for us I may do something but it won't be work, I will use my skills to help others get out of the rat race, let the rats run by themselves. I was a slave for 40 years making other people rich. No more! love you guys keep sharing the journey, can't wait to meet up in SA.

  • @baphithi

Cape Town does not embrace people that look like us, at least it didn’t when I lived there. It also often felt more European than African, and back then they literally stared when we showed up in entertainment spaces. Even the cashiers used to serve white people first, even though one was first in line. Arguing with them was tiring so we ended up just going home a lot on weekends.
Your US accent would help you get treated a bit better though.

I hear your views on Cape Town a lot (each to their own) I just think you haven’t given Cape Town a chance. This coming from a Capetonian and someone who has lived in JHB for 16 years. Fun fact: when I first moved to JHB, my plan was to only stay for two years and move back. That ended up for another 16 years later. In my first 8 months I found issue with everything in JHB (despite balling) until I came to the self realisation that I should no longer compare JHB to CT but instead embrace it as a separate city with different culture and a different people etc. I learnt that Cape Town has things to offer that JHB could never and vice versa. Here’s another fact that no one speaks about, everyone in Jhb who talks trash about CT has in most cases never lived in Cape Town (but secretly wish they could but will never admit to it) their experiences is largely based on past vacations or business trips (and almost everyone complains about the weather or service industry…by the way I’ve had good and bad service in both cities). The flip side to this coin is that every person I’ve ever come across born in Jhb but whom has moved to Cape Town have all said the same thing, they never moving back to JHB. The one thing where JHB wins hands down though is if you wish to build a successful career, climb or fast track the corporate ladder or simply just make bank (JHb has a lot more opportunities than CT) - my advice, don’t be so closed minded about CT, you may be robbing yourself from so much. To use another analogy, for a long time you were sold on Dainfern and almost to a degree, weren’t considering other possibilities (until now that is) ;-)
Edited: listening to you sharing that story about working till you die but the quality life…well same can be said about jhb and CT in the South African context…CT will offer you a much much better quality of life compared to JHB and that you can’t put a price tag on. And believe me when I lived in jhb, I had more life balance than work balance when living their lol but it doesn’t stack up anywhere close to what I’m now experiencing all over again being back in Cape Town.

@@asadelmalikphd glad to hear mate 👍🏻 ps: for the record, when I lived in jhb I have become the biggest self proclaimed ambassador of jhb, and with good reason. I do love jhb and if I ever should move back because of work, I would have no issue although I can safely reaffirm that the quality of life in Cape Town is a heck of a lot better and so much more rewarding. Also, this may be of interest to you. I’m of the opinion that a better option to staying in Dainfern,Steyn City, Waterfall Estate or Eagle Canyon would be either of the following two suburbs that I’m about to mention. I lived for 7 years in Melrose Avenue, Melrose Estate…which isn’t actually an estate as any of the former mentioned estates but rather an upperclass affluent leafy suburb. It’s beautifully nestled between Melrose Arch, Houghton, Rosebank Mall, Illovo and Atholl which is a stones throw away from Sandton City. It’s also next to Killarney golf course and with a Virgin Active membership, you can choose and alternate between any of the 4 gyms that encircle you if you that’s your thing. I then later bought a house in Bryanston, another suburb I would strongly recommend but be mindful that Bryanston is further subdivided with some parts being a lot more affluent than others. I lived opposite the Bryanston Country Club. Before I end, I should leave you with this…the earlier Estates I mentioned ie Dainfern, Eagle Canyon, Waterfall Estate, Steyn City or even Kyalami Estate, they are all beautiful and on another level…I guess if anyone can afford to stay on either of these estates, then why not, go for it and I wouldn’t try and talk you out of it. I myself have quite a few friends who do live on some of these estates and it’s very very impressive HOWEVER….they all have to deal with some horrific traffic. Even if you work from home, most of the amenities and places of interest you’ll find inside the circle of which I’ll describe next. You see, if you look at the map of JHB you will notice a ring road made up of the N1, N3 and N12…sliced diagonally through the center by the M1. The centre of that circle being downtown JHB CBD…keep in mind that Sandton also has its own CBD and so does Germiston and Randburg but for what it’s worth, most only distinguish between JHB CBD and Sandton CBD. Coming back to that circle, when you stay inside of that circle and particularly in JHB North ie Sandton and the Greater Sandton you will have far less of a traffic nightmare than those living on the exterior. It also means that most places of interest, shops, restaurants, schools, shopping malls, parks etc are a lot closer and easier to access. Good luck if you want to hedge your bets taking that chance ;-) my advice, stay inside the circle, you’ll thank me for it later. Wish you guys all the best.
List of other suburbs that comes to mind worth exploring:
      1. River Club
      2. Morningside
      3. Sandhurst
      4. Sandown
      5. Parkhurst
      6. Benmore
      7. Parkmore
      8. Hurlingham
      9. Hyde Park
      10. Saxonworld
      and maybe
      11. Northcliff (also beautiful homes up on the hill but a little bit further away than any of the above mentioned. Does come with amazing views though)

@@Van_Wilder You gave alot of info here! I've heard of most of these places and see that they are really nice. But what do you think about the revitalized areas in downtown, Newtown, Marshalltown, FNB BankCity area, Maboneng? We are planning to move to Cape Town but want to also buy in Joburg in the downtown revitalized areas.

    • @Van_Wilder
      @Van_Wilder Před 2 lety +1

@@KatrinaInStride hi there - what they aiming to accomplish in the city is quite ambitious and who knows, perhaps in time they might pull it off. What exactly am I referring to you may ask? Well, Jhb downtown for many years have become notoriously dangerous with many foreign nationals taking over buildings and literally squatting. And with that comes all sorts of unsavoury and illegal criminal activities taking place. The idea is to make downtown CBD once again as attractive to live in as what it is to do so in Cape Town CBD or eventually something that resembles downtown Manhattan with those fancy apartments showcased in most Hollywood screen films. I, personally know these areas rather well, having myself worked for many years in Simmonds Street and Commissioner Street as well as having frequented Newtown, Braamfontein and Maboneng every single weekend. A few years back when I lived in jhb the rule of thumb for jhb CBD was Saturdays you party and socialise in Braamfontein (Neighborgoods Market, Great Dane, The Beach etc) and Sundays, in and around Maboneng Precinct at (Arts on Main or the rooftop bar, Living Room) only other time you wonder into downtime in the middle of the week is to make your way to the jhb theatre or some fashion event hosted at one or other art gallery. BUT BE CAREFUL!! Although these three areas in particular are quite popular amongst locals and foreigners on weekends, and fairly safe to walk around, it does gives off quiet an eerie feeling every other day of the week and especially at night, resembling almost a ghost town. You have to consider your safety when heading out or coming home late at night, especially if you’re alone and there’s not much traffic on the roads as you enter downtown eg imagine coming home at 10pm from a restaurant or even later at night heading home from a bar or club. Ps: I have a few friends who do live in braamfontein and their homes are huge, modern and really does give you that upscaled loft or penthouse feel you’d expect from Manhattan. I mention this because if this is what you are looking for, you most definitely will find these types of properties. I just think that jhb has got a long long way to go but who knows , it might happen sooner than what I may think. This is just my opinion and I’m sure a lot of ppl who live there will disagree - keep in mind, one of my closest friends decided to give Maboneng a chance and lived there for two years…he had many positives to say about the place but shared and agreed with all of my concerns mentioned above. My advice, if you’re on a slightly less of a budget and looking for a good starting point for you move, consider Sunninghill if within budget. Sunninghill, together with Rivonia, Morningside, Fourways, Douglasdale and Paulshof is where most “first timers” move to when relocating to jhb. Mostly young and upcoming professionals on a bit of a budget. Not the cheapest but shouldn’t break the bank either (very affordable for what you’re getting in return) in jhb, like with most parts around the world, location is key. Just remember to check which places fall inside the jhb circle and which falls outside of that circle - jhb traffic really is no joke. All the best 👍🏻 ps: as mentioned I worked in a Simmonds Street in Marshaltown. Both Bank City (FNB) and Superblock (Standard Bank) are located in Simmonds Street, a few blocks apart. This entire area is completely safe during the day as many of these big corporates have collectively funded security firms to patrol every block and every street. HOWEVER after 6pm, those very same streets become a ghost town and I’ve heard of too many incidents that has happened to my own staff, walking back to their cars after hours. Apart from petty robberies that may occur, these areas are also infamous for “smash and grab” incidents as motorist are often jammed up in traffic trying to exit the city at the end of a work day or simply, find themselves driving late at night with there being almost no one around. I give you all this advice but that never ever stopped me from driving alone, late at night in my flashy car coz I was simply irresponsible thinking I was invincible at the time :-) one last thing, don’t let crime stats or stories put you off about jhb, I lived there for 16 years and without a single incident. I even commonly drove around late at night with my windows down (I don’t recommend you doing that) just be cautious and don’t do what I do by placing yourself unnecessarily in compromising positions/situations from a safety standpoint ie driving alone at midpoint in a dark abandoned area.

It’s not rocket science / if you don’t have money saved up, chances are that you dont have the option to emigrate (even if you wish to do so)…if you have a good job, and more so a high paying job, you stand a better chance of building and creating a certain level of wealth, which in turn provides one with options - …such as emigration. This principle I reckon applies to anyone living in any country. It’s near impossible to uproot yourself, quit your job and relocate your entire life and family if you don’t have the resources to do so.

    Joy!!!
Doesn’t make sense that they separated them, it being a family application, but what do we know?
It was moved to the embassies because people were offering bribes to officials in SA to get documents they did not qualify for, so they decided that everyone should apply in their own country, forcing them to go through the same process as everyone else. Not such a good idea bringing them back here, but what do we know? 😅
