Hi Carlos, I'm making an Erhu in first time, like a personal challenge. I'm in Chile so is pretty hard getting a python skin. I got a cow skin drawn like python skin. Please, may you tell me, how use remplacement?
I think python skin is the best, no substitution
A synthetic python skin was developed more than 10 years ago. Burmese python is an endangered species in its native area. A new CITES permit system certificate is required everytime transferring the python erhu from one country to another. State of Florida USA has a huge invasive spieces problem of Burmese python from people who had them as pets an released them. Lead/mercury from food chain concentration makes Florida Burmese pythons too toxic to eat. Chinese are not willing to pay enough for skins to make sales profitable to Florida hunters or skin processors. Look for drum head suppliers in your area. Most drum heads are now synthetic since they are a more uniform and less expensive material, they are better drum heads. Replacement of damaged erhu heads cost more than a new instrument, if someone can be found that will do it. I just bought some bongos and think I will replace animal skins used on them with 5 mil and 7 mil mylar sold in 12" square sheets for making stencils, if I break the heads. If you're a high end craftsman then pursue synthetic skin on line. If you're just tinkering then get some mylar sheets, apparently there are two glues that will work with mylar, test both of them for strength gluing mylar before glueing the mylar to your erhu.

演奏級當然是老紅木，我認為二泉用小葉反而未必好，太貴性價比不高，但我這段時間很忙，要九月份才能做

很好，學了許多知識。請問以後可否用彷皮來示範一次呢？例如：採用甚麼材料，如何裁剪，撐皮等。因今天提倡環保，有些地區是不準帶動物皮做的二胡啊﹗
仿皮嘛，我有做過，我採用的是一種仿生纖維皮，白色的。我用相同的方法去蒙，但問題是，仿皮破的機會很大，按壓的過程更多，基本上好像幫皮做按摩，因此我很少做。還有一個問題，仿皮做好後的聲音還好，但較容易疲勞，因此每次用完要鬆弦才能持久，很是麻煩。
