I kind of like the idea of a family member having the opportunity to parent the child instead of them going into a foster care system. Not a solution to all the other deeper rooted issues but it seems to serve a need.

yeah, so here is my story. My youngest was 2 years old when she got into an altercation with the neighbor's cat. They hadn't done anything as far as shots, and they let their cat roam free. My daughter wanted to hold it and the cat had a problem with that. She got scratched, and I washed and bandaged her face as any mother would. End result? 4 days in the hospital with fears of brain damage due to cat scratch fever. I had to leave my other daughter (3) in the care of my best friends. Yep, single mom with no help other than friends. I have amazing friends. So after we get out of the hospital, we have a party to let my other daughter know how much we missed her. A "yay, we are together again!" party. It wasn't enough. My daughter scratched her own face, hoping to get that same four days of undivided attention from me. Broke my heart! But the younger one was due for a follow up after the hospital. A couple days before that, one of my friends called and said she found a big microwave that works, at a garage sale for only $20 (at the time, micros were at least $200). So I went and got it. I also bought two plastic lawn chairs from walmart so me and a friend could sit on my patio and watch the kids play. But once home, I had a problem. Do I leave the kids in the car and bring the stuff into the apartment, or do I leave them in the apartment while I bring in the stuff? Neither was a good option in my opinion, so I carried the microwave in my arms (which was too big to fit so I got bad bruises on my arms) and a chair on each pinky (the legs of which swung and cut my calves), while I had my kids hang on to my shirt while we made the equivalent of two blocks to our apartment. So the follow up exam at the doctors. New doctor, he has a student. I am sucker punched when he says, "you know abusing yourself and your children is not an option. We can help you." What????

You know, I hate to argue against that because I understand that a lot of people use the race as an argument. I’m white and very Republican. However, a Republican in the state of Minnesota. It’s true. But it’s not the fact that they’re going after people. It’s just so happened that the laws are designed to attack people of poverty. My child is mixed and I am fighting this now
