      As a craftsmen it’s really not that interesting of a piece tbh so many other options that could’ve fit better than a bench honestly it’s an unskilled pc

    A friend of mine had a George Nakashima dining room table. He said it was very expensive but he really admired George and really wanted it, so he bought it...for $2,000.

    Geo Nakashima was an amazing craftsman/artist. Tho my woodworking is more conventional, I greatly appreciate his work. George would be beyond please that his work was actually being used and not just a show piece.

    You would be surprised how comfortable his furniture is. The New Hope library has some of his chairs. He also made some pieces for St. Martins Church in town.

    There is one exactly like this one in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston! Is beautiful, they don’t have nails, like the Japanese tradition. You can even seen on it!

    The 2021 price of $60K is in the ballpark. I saw a similar one on 1stdibs for $55K. I agree with Don below - the legs are too short to be used as practical seating.

    The Michener Museum in Doylestown PA has several beautiful Nakashima pieces that are actually used as intended rather than merely displayed. Worth a visit for that alone.

    there is a George Nakashima bench very similar to this (mirrored to the opposite side) on a site called 1stdibs (seems like a retail enviornment) for 185,000$ right now in 2022.

    Tried to sell the one I made one guy offered me 7.00 dollars I said no cause he wanted me to deliver it.

    A piece of furniture that expensive quickly becomes a piece of furniture that is no longer used. You can justify using a $6000 piece of furniture but when it’s that expensive, you start worrying about accidents that decrease it’s value. Or it being stolen. If it were me, I’d automatically start thinking that it’s too expensive to keep and I’d sell it immediately even though I would want to keep it.

      Of course you can use it.
      I have furniture that is centuries old that is still in use. I make craft furniture that sells for very high prices and it is still used by people because it is exceptionally well made.

    Okay, valuable because it's pretty, it's art, collectors love it, but it's not really by any stretch a practical bench. Too low to floor, just a flat slab of wood, uncomfortable and useless back, not ergonomic.

    You have to be kidding me $60,000? The $375.00 paid originally is still all it would be worth to me. If the Guy sits on it every night then he has a better back than me. Hard and the height of a coffee table. In my neck of the woods guys carve out better looking stuff than this with chain saws. Sorry, to each his own.

      It is not a settee people it is a bench and can be perfect for the home. The $375 paid in 1971 in today's money is $12000.
      Well made furniture can last centuries. I have pieces that are centuries old that are still in use today.
      A low bench is perfect for many purposes.

      It is a stunning piece of modern furniture that is made to a very high standard. It is a low bench that is perfect for the home.
      As a bit of furniture it is more usable than a traditional low bench because it is wide and low.

      It is a stunning bit of furniture and is made by a craftsman and not a factory. Remember it is a fifty year old bit of furniture and could easily last another 100 years.
      I know most of you do not understand it as a bit of furniture because you are probably buying cheap mass produced factory furniture that you will throw out in a 10 years time.
