  • Today on Team Wild TV, We’re out in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside squirrel hunting with Ian Harford.
The sun is shinning as Ian arrives early in the morning ready for an exciting day of squirrel hunting. As the weather can often be unpredictable during the winter months, Ian is wearing the Deerhunter Mouflon Long Winter jacket in Realtree Edge, which offers support against the elements if there is a sudden drop in temperature.
The grey squirrel population is rapidly growing in this area over the years and really needs to be brought under control. Ian has brought the best equipment for the task at hand. The Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter is ideal for squirrel shooting as it is lightweight and manoeuvrable. The variation of shots will change throughout the day, Ian is expecting to take shots from 35-50 yards, having a high-powered air rifle gives you that extra length and takes out the issue of in and around trees where there can be some movement. On top of the Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter, Ian has attached the Hawke Air Max 4-16x50 scope. Ian will also be spotting the squirrels using the Pulsar Helion XP50 thermal imager.
After spending several hours in the highseat, Ian hasn’t been able to locate any squirrels nearby. He has spotted a few using the thermal imager, however due to the dense undergrowth when Ian changed to the scope, they had disappeared. This can be slightly frustrating, but it is all part of the experience. Ian decides to try a different tactic and head out on foot.
It doesn’t take long for Ian to get a clear sight on a squirrel on a nearby pheasant feeder. He readies the Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter and squeezes the trigger. The shot hits perfectly and the squirrel is ethically dispatched. After that more and more squirrels appear in openings offering Ian more great shots.
With sunlight fading Ian decides to call it a day. It has been an incredible day, the weather has been outstanding all day and Ian has been able to successfully remove several squirrels.
It has been a day of great sport in great countryside, you couldn’t ask for more.

Thanks Ian. Looks like a good time. My friend doctorlatebloomer and her daughter have been preparing to do this very thing as an additional opportunity to hunt and practice outside of deer season. Fridays are always good, Team Wild TV just made this one even better.

Dan Hill Thanks mate! Hunting squirrels is as important as deer management in our forests. Plus is great fun too! 😃👍

if you skin/gut them, then get a bowl of warm water/enough to cover the bodies, add x1 table spoon of salt, stir until dissolved/let the water go cold, then put the squirrels in,soak over night, you need to do this because the meat is very very gamey tasting, can also do the same with any wild game, then pop in the frying pan, mick from uk.

It's an invasive species that eats our native birds and their eggs but more importantly has nearly pushed our precious red squirrel to extinction. So yeah fuck em

crossing a fence with a gun over your shoulder would fail every hunter safety course in USA.
