Lyrics:
The existential threat that I always feel
Nothing's happened yet today and yet I have to feel
Danger near, danger here
Nowhere to escape to and nobody there to hear as I now
Scream in fear, scream in fear
The existential threat is drawing very, very near and they all
Look away, look away
Can't they see the existential threat is on its way
The existential threat that I tend to feel
When I'm walking down the street or right behind the wheel
Turning left, turning right
Trying to escape the cloud that's close enough to feel and you may
Laugh out loud, laugh out loud
The existential threat is always hanging about and you may
Say go way, say go way
The existential threat is never going away
Doctor gave me these, I said what are these?
He said that they'll cure an existential type disease
Doubt they will, doubt they will
But I'm keen to try whatever, gimme that pill and he said
Here's the bill, here's the bill
In the end they didn't work, I paid the whole bill because
Insurance won't, they just won't
Cover existential meds, I wish I had known
How should I react under this attack
Even when I'm standing up I feel I'm on my back
Quagmire here, quagmire there
I cannot elucidate the danger that is always there but it is
Looming large, extra large
My semi-automatic weapon ready to discharge but it's a
Futile act, better pack
The existential threat is bulletproof and looming large
Sartre and Camus seemed to understand
Something close to what I'm feeling though they were in France
Deux Magots they would go
Each comparing existential threats they came to blows and then
The crowds came near just to cheer
For the greatest existential threatened philosophe and it is
Comforting, comforting
Then the comfort starts to very quickly fade away
Did I wake you up, sorry if I did
Guess I woke you up and also woke your little kid
Threat outside, let me hide
Just until the danger passes, then I'll go outside and have to
Come again, once again
The existential threat is at your patio door and do not
Let it in, let it in
When you fight the existential threat you will not win
The existential threat that I always feel
Lots of things have happened and I seek an even keel
Danger near, danger far
Nowhere to escape to and I'm racing in my car as I now
Scream in fear, scream in fear
The existential threat is drawing very, very near as I now
Drive away, by the way
Can't you see the existential threat is on its way - Krátké a kreslené filmy

Hello
Btuh
Im here
Did you reach out to Sparks or did they reach out to you? 😅
I very much enjoy this video, is it based on anything in particular if you happen to know?
Pretty unsettling to me, personally
When he doesn't upload in years, that's when you know he's cooking up something good
Hopefully!
Or he's dead
HE COOKED
real
HE WAS!!
The specific threats that Cyriak chose to animate are quite on point with the things that people with generalized anxiety fret about.
Examples:
Social interactions.
Pollution, all three on land, in the water, and in the air.
Planes crashing into buildings.
The doctor saying he's trying to help you and really he's just trying to profit off of you.
The pills the doctor gave you possibly being a worse poison than the anxiety itself.
The office workplace, trying to kill you with stress and a lack of exercise.
Then at the end of the video, the really big/fun stuff. Nuclear war. Asteroid impacts. The Earth itself turning into an angry-mawed monster (that might be a metaphor for natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes).
Even if we survive all of that, eventually the sun will explode and destroy us all anyway.
The anxiety is always fixated on random nebulous threats that render the individual powerless.
Nice analysis but I have a few more threats to mention.
I think 2:05 could symbolise a fear of technology since the tech created a monster and that people were so distracted by their tech that they didn’t see it coming and got eaten.
The events at 2:16 could represent the fear of humanity’s attempts to be something being pointless due to being wiped out by a natural disaster.
2:30 could showcase the fear of war and violence which is represented by a monster made of firearms and blades attacking the innocent (the child).
2:42 could be a fear of ageing since the kid seemed happy and innocent on their birthday, not seeing the danger behind the cake (the bomb). Once they grow up, the effects of the bomb happen and now we see the paranoid mess the little kid became.
And although this isn’t a fear, I still feel like it’s worth mentioning.
The event at 2:51 I think is supposed to represent the person having a breakdown since their safe space (their house which could represent their mental state) breaks down and collapses around them. The lyrics also change from paranoid mentions of the “existential threat” to straight up “I now scream in fear, scream in fear” which shows how the seal is broken and that they are really scared now. After the breakdown, the “big stuff” happens like the meteors and nuclear war which further shows how their fear has gone full throttle.
Thank you for reading this! Took me a while to write!
@@babyghast4379 I'd also add that possibly the pollution transitions briefly into "infestations" or "plagues" at 0:51 with the rats.
Also ageing and mortality it looked like
@@babyghast4379 love this analysis and TIME Stamps!! on point.
a really subtle one that I love is the fear of new technology/things in general. his house, clothes, and cars are old fashioned, while outside everyone dresses modern and loves phones
anyways more on the pile:
0:40 mostly meant to show pollution, but also shows "clean freaks"
1:39 the clocks represent wasting time working
1:48 to add killing employees, companies kill everyone while making money. money is the dependent variable, which I might be thinking too much but it means it's the priority and that deaths are just a consequence
1:55 Artificial Intellegence. Amazing representation
2:05 is your phone/social media watching you, although the one above isn't wrong
2:25 the news spreading fear. the fear of war and weapons even comes out of it. amazing
2:50 claustrophobia is the simple answer
3:15 the stars burning out represents heat death/the big freeze. also shows how alone we are in the universe and how empty it is
thanks for reading even if I'm 7 months late

I find this song relatable. Sometimes at night, I'm kept up late from an existential crisis. I start questioning my own existence. Ask how I can see and how I can move, how I can feel. How and why I'm alive, laying in my bed. Then I start to get scared, and get a sinking feeling in my chest, and it feels like I'm going crazy. And I have the thought of dying and seeing whats on the other side. If there is no heaven and no god, if its just all black or if I'm really in a simulation, then what happens then? What goes on next? The part where candles pop out of the candle and the boy gets older, it really speaks to me. Because the next thought if the fear of growing up. The more I grow, the more years passes by the more things will change. I'm not a kid anymore, and there are some things I will have to leave behind. And I'm scared. I'm scared of those changes. Somebody please, help me.

Yes, Ron and Russel Mael first started as a band in 1966. That's pretty impressive, I'd say - still going for so long. And many of their songs don't sound like nearly the same thing over and over, which is also an interesting characteristic. But it also leaves me (one who's only *just* familiar with them and is curious but who also doesn't own any of their albums) a bit uncertain about where to go in their large catalogue of music.
I'm open to music differences from album to album, being a fan of XTC. As for Sparks' songs that I liked (out of the few that I listened to,) these are the only ones I can think of: "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth," "Something For the Girl with Everything," "Dick Around," and this song, "The Existential Threat." But that's really not much.

So, what kind of existential threats are seen in this video?
First of all, while this is not a threat by itself, notice how the people other than the protagonist are depicted throughout the music video: cheerful, clueless, abd blissfully unaware of the dangers that surround them. The protagonist (from now on I'll call him 'Guy') clearly feels like he's the only one who KNOWS.
Now, first we see Guy sitting in his chair, shaking and fearing every shadow in the room. Those are rather vague threats, simply serving to remind him that they are everywhere, but they could also represent fear of the supernatural.
Then, Guy's head 'unzips', allowing us a peak into his mind and see what kind of threats he's mentioning.
The first one seems to be pollution: a monster made of garbage and sewage, with trash ticks crawling all over and pipes spewing deadly smog all across the place. The rats may imply that the skull-smoke also represents plague, since those rats can be literally seen entering people. It's also supported by the plane above dropping what appears to be virus-containing smoke/chemtrail. The people are unaware, even as rats are literally crawling down their throats in droves.
Then, as Sparks sing about the ineffectual cures for existential diseases, we see Guy in a doctor's office, offered some medicine that he seems to be hesitant to take. The doctor is already cross-eyed and grining wide (seen by Guy as being just as clueless and unaware as the rest), and is getting more and more distorted in his vision, appearing more and more sharp and pointy, and the pills force themselves down Guy's throat, making their way towards Guy's brain and smuggling some needles and blades along the way. This is obviously a 'Big Pharma' threat, a belief that the medical industry is working against the people to control and harm them. It's also supported by the fact the rest of bottles on the shelf are clearly labeled as 'poison'. And, of course, it serves to show that no amount of medicine is going to take away Guy's fear of various existential threats.
Scared of the 'Big Pharma', Guy's imaginary brain literally leaves the body, setting off to travel on its own and ending up in an office full of, once again, blissfully unaware workers indlessly tapping at their keyboard. At the bloor above, there's an upper management meeting, where the threat of corporatism seems to be taking the spotlight, made of office supplies and papers. Notice how the graph that they're pointing at is displaying correlation between amount of death and profit as it spirals out of control and beheads the people in the room.
We then take a look at the laptop computer, where Guy's brain has been transferred to cyberspace, making him into some kind of living program. He finds his way into the rest of the Internet and quickly transforms into a monster that inhabits everyone's phone. The people, just as always, are unaware, showing memes to each other and just chilling, as the Internet Monster starts consuming them. This seems to be the threat of rapidly growing cyberspace taking over people's lives, of people being so deep inside it that they're starting to lose themselves. All while Sparks sing about Sartre and Camus, two famous existential philosophers, discussing existentialism in public, 'competing' over who is the greatest. Doesn't that remind you of various Internet discourses?
We are then welcomed into another existential threat - the threat of natural disasters and passage of time erasing any trace of humanity there is.
As we take a look at this vicious cycle of disasters, we find out this is, in fact, a television broadcast that quickly spills out - the allegory of sensationalism, of how the television, chasing ratings, is predisposed to displaying primarily shocking news.
As the broadcast spills, we see a small child, cheerful and just as blissfully unaware, doing his regular child things, while the spill transforms into a monster of weapons and ammunition - quite obviously the threat of war and conflict that seems to shadow the poor child wherever he goes.
The child then finds himself in from of his birthday cake with a timebomb attached, representing the threat of growing old and dying, and as the child ages rapidly (and his parents on the background portraits perish), we see that the clueless child grows up to be the ever-paranoid Guy. It seems like the shocking broadcasts and news of war have hurt the poor kid's optimism, huh?
Finally, the Guy is back in his room, and the walls close in around him, claustrophobically compressing and forcing him to 'spill' outside - seems like he no longer feels safe and secure even within confines of his own house. As he's spilling out, Guy is trying desperately to escape the threats chasing him - at first it's just a vague 'wave of death', but then it turns into a whole pleiad of nuclear missiles chasing him, obviously representing the threat of nuclear destruction.
As the nukes have leveled the entire civilization to the ground, Guy survives, only for an asteroid to crash into the Earth's surface, shattering it - yes, the threat of asteroids is a common fear as well.
Chased by the remains of destroyed Earth across the cosmos, we see the car, the Earth, and the stars all break into dust and fade away as the sun explodes into a supernova, erasing Guy once and for all. This is the final existential threat of this music video - the heat death of the universe, which dictates that entropy will, one day, reduce the entire universe to a homogenous inert mass where nothing can ever happen. The absolute end of all as we know it.
This song MV really relates to me tbh..

Still excited for Spook Train?
This music from the beginning just VERY RANDOMLY started playing in my head despite it not having happened for 2 years and i thought i had completely forgotten this but suddenly i just remembered it
This song really speaks to me as a schizophrenic. Everything about reminds me of my experiences, and I feel what separates it from other songs that are just about anxiety are the implications that he isn’t just feeling it but finding it hard to doubt his feelings and is acting strange due to it which I have definitely related to.
I like that the guy who's afraid is the only person whose eyes are fixed to something, and so the others are just unaware of anything happening around them.
Thats.. actually teally good symbolism
*how did I not notice that my god*
yeah, even his parents eyes were... "wiggly"

I can’t stop watching this
I feel bad for him in the scene wheres hes a kid outside with no worries, then you see him sit inside growing old and becoming depressed as his anxiety and paranoia start to take over his life.
Because that's how it is in real life, right now theres tons of kids that dont know they have these underlying conditions hiding inside them, slowly building up strength to fully blossom in the future to make their lives a living hell
Yeah my paranoia and anxiety is beginning to show. Possibly even Schizophrenia as I show delusions and disorganised behaviour.
I only recently found out I might have depression, since apparently my grandmother had it. So it might be a hereditary thing.
I'm 20 currently, and for the past two or three years things have just been getting worse for me mentally. It's been a slow slope.
Add onto that autism and art block, too. So yeah, things have mostly been kind of shitty on my end.
Hope everyone else is having a great day, though. And I hope you all stay positive and safe during these hard times.
I have anxiety from a traumatic past. Growing up with a narcissist parent sucked.
Says the guy with a cursed telletubies picture
The people who made this song have some guts having cyriak make the official music video makes

Я люблю этого автора за то, что ты не сможешь предугадкть, что произойдет через 10 секунд
I think the main reason I love cyriaks content is that it’s realistic humans/animals and other things mixed with fluid cartoony over-exaggeration.
The word your looking for is 'Surrealism'
@@scrittle mann its more absurd than surreal

for those who ask the lyrics: (edit for the ones who claim I copied it from the description: when I commented this, the lyrics weren't in the description)
The existential threat that I always feel
Nothing's happened yet today and yet I have to feel
Danger near, danger here
Nowhere to escape to and nobody there to hear as I now
Scream in fear, scream in fear
The existential threat is drawing very, very near and they all
Look away, look away
Can't they see the existential threat is on its way
The existential threat that I tend to feel
When I'm walking down the street or right behind the wheel
Turning left, turning right
Trying to escape the cloud that's close enough to feel and you may
Laugh out loud, laugh out loud
The existential threat is always hanging about and you may
Say go way, say go way
The existential threat is never going away
Doctor gave me these, I said what are these?
He said that they'll cure an existential type disease
Doubt they will, doubt they will
But I'm keen to try whatever, gimme that pill and he said
Here's the bill, here's the bill
In the end they didn't work, I paid the whole bill because
Insurance won't, they just won't
Cover existential meds, I wish I had known
How should I react under this attack
Even when I'm standing up I feel I'm on my back
Quagmire here, quagmire there
I cannot elucidate the danger that is always there but it is
Looming large, extra large
My semi-automatic weapon ready to discharge but it's a
Futile act, better pack
The existential threat is bulletproof and looming large
Sartre and Camus seemed to understand
Something close to what I'm feeling though they were in France
Deux Magots they would go
Each comparing existential threats they came to blows and then
The crowds came near just to cheer
For the greatest existential threatened philosophe and it is
Comforting, comforting
Then the comfort starts to very quickly fade away
Did I wake you up, sorry if I did
Guess I woke you up and also woke your little kid
Threat outside, let me hide
Just until the danger passes, then I'll go outside and have to
Come again, once again
The existential threat is at your patio door and do not
Let it in, let it in
When you fight the existential threat you will not win
The existential threat that I always feel
Lots of things have happened and I seek an even keel
Danger near, danger far
Nowhere to escape to and I'm racing in my car as I now
Scream in fear, scream in fear
The existential threat is drawing very, very near as I now
Drive away, by the way
Can't you see the existential threat is on its way
Wonderful words of life and meaning amazing beautiful lyrics that I really love it's so good. Love how the lord himself cyriak incorporates the lyrics with it's visuals so good.

This is like the 10th time I’ve watched this I can’t stop coming back help
I do love the symbolism in this, especially the part at 2:29. How I interpret the 'metal beast' is it stands for war, which always seems just 2 blocks down from where we all are.
It feels so weird to see a world of happy stock photo humans be distorted in a dark world of chaos
I love it
"The only thing we have to fear is, fear itself"
Gonna have to write you a rain check on that one dawg
There's at least one phobia relating to fear, funnily enough.
Temperature starting to drop now! Temperature starting to drop!
Phobophobia? It's quiet common!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phobophobia
If you actually think about this sentence, it might change your perspective on some things.
@@LamaPoop I was thinking of agoraphobia, which Wikipedia describes as the fear of being in public places due to the specific potential to have panic attacks there, but phobophobia is a better example anyway.
I can't define how much I loved this video :D
spotify recommended me this song about a year ago, never in my life did i imagine this would be the music video
As someone who constantly suffers from existential dread, this encapsulates the feeling perfectly.
I thought I was alone.
I feel like laughing and screaming at the same time when panic attacks reach me. The state of the world is almost unfix able. And being younger person I feel like we can’t pass the baton like every other generation. We need to act or global warming, along with many other issues are going to cave in on us. We are about to be gifted a broken world.

I love how the "protagonist" of the song (the old dude) is the only one to have his eyes move (somewhat) properly and not like they belong to a chameleon (like the eyes of every other person in the video)
Ooh, clever.
Very Interesting. Never noticed that before. Maybe because he's more aware to our surroundings and what could happen to him.
And when he’s a kid he has the eyes but as he grows up the eyes stop

having tried to make things like this myself, all i can do is complement how the fuck you managed to acquire all these gifs that match exactly what it seems like you need it to match, using partially hand animated stuff and such. because it looks like you've just adapted a bunch of stock image but quite a few of them have actual movement, like the lips of the man going up and down with the skin stretching properly.
