Contrary to speculation that singer Paul Rodgers named the band after the Jeff Bridges film Bad Company, Rodgers stated in an interview with Spinner.com that the idea came from a book of Victorian morals that showed a picture of an innocent child looking up at an unsavory character leaning against a lamp post. The caption read "beware of bad company".
Bad Company consisted of four seasoned musicians: two former members of Free, singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke; former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs; and ex-King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. The band signed to Swan Song Records/Atlantic Records in North America, and with Island Records in other countries. (Island Records had until that time been the UK home to both Free and King Crimson, as well as to Mott the Hoople for their first four albums; Atlantic, in turn, released King Crimson's and Mott's early albums in the US through a licensing agreement with Island). Atlantic/Warner Music would later acquire the non-North American rights to the band's catalog.
The band's 1974 debut album, Bad Company, was recorded at Headley Grange, Hampshire, in Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 in the US, and number 3 in the UK Albums Chart, spending 25 weeks in the UK charts. The album has been certified five times platinum in the US, and became the 46th-best-selling album of the 1970s. The singles "Can't Get Enough" and "Movin' On" reached No. 5 and No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1975 their second album, Straight Shooter, reached No. 3 in both the UK and the US, and also went platinum in the US. The album also spawned two hit singles, "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" at No. 36 and the slower "Feel Like Makin' Love" at No. 10. Source: Wikipedia

I saw Bad Company in Detroit, 1974, open for Black Oak Arkansas. What a show! It's my 15th birthday. Money from my paper route.

I saw ‘em live at Fiddler’s Green in Greenwood Village Colorado (a Denver suburb) the evening of June 26, 2002. Paul Rodgers had returned. They co-headlined with Foreigner who had Lou Gramm back. The opening act that night was a young upcoming bluesman by the name of Joe Bonamassa. Bonamassa has only grown in popularity and greatness since then.
It was a great concert all around! Paul Rodgers is a masterclass vocalist who is second to none - a genuine LEGEND in the world of Rock & Roll who, at age 74 now in 2023, has miraculously not lost any of the edges of his gifted soulful voice nor the ability to write & produce great soulful music. In September of this year (2023) Paul released his first studio album of original material since his ‘99 studio release “Electric” (an album of Paul’s I also purchased upon its release 23 years ago). “MIDNIGHT ROSE” is his latest album and it is full of that trademark Paul Rodgers soulfulness that he’s always given us thru the years. The man has still got it! Paul Rodgers the musician, the songwriter, the consummate Rock vocalist, is still “Movin’ On”! He’s still got some “Fire And Water” in him! He’s taking another “Dance In The Sun” and I’m lovin’ it because both he and his fans just “CAN’T GET ENOUGH”! We can’t get enough of Paul Rodgers and his music of the soul. Thank You Paul - we love you Brother!

Good memories of listening to Paul Rodgers and Bad Company on 8-track back in high school and first year of college in ‘75-‘78 while cruising around in my blue/white ‘71 Plymouth Barracuda and then in my yellow/black ‘74 Plymouth ‘Cuda. I bought every album Bad Company released. I even wore a black Bad Co T-shirt back then (side-note: I just found a Bad Co “Straight Shooter” T-shirt at WalMart last month and bought it. HAD to have it).
The mid to late ‘70s… those were good days with great cars and great music! I also had other 8-tracks in my ‘Cuda’s glove box that I wore out back in those days… Grand Funk Railroad… Pink Floyd… Eagles… Boston… Heart… Aerosmith… The Guess Who… The Doobie Brothers… Fleetwood Mac… Nazareth… Bread… Head East… Alice Cooper… Rush… Blue Oyster Cult… The Little River Band… Seals & Crofts… England Dan & John Ford Coley…
The 8-tracks played most often back then in my ‘Cuda were the albums by Bad Company (ALL of them)… Grand Funk (“Live: Caught In The Act”, “We’re An American Band”, “Shinin’ On”, “All The Girls In The World Beware”, “Born To Die”)… Pink Floyd (“The Dark Side Of The Moon”, “Wish You Were Here”)… The Guess Who (“Greatest Hits”)… Eagles (“One Of These Nights”, “The Best Of The Eagles”)… Boston (“Boston”)… The Doobie Brothers (“The Best Of The Doobies”)… Heart (“Dreamboat Annie”, “Little Queen”)… Aerosmith (“Rocks”, “Toys In The Attic”)…
Thanks for your comment that prompted my blissful walk down memory lane. It’s good to revisit that place in time every now and then.

I bought a book called 2000 Guitars The Ultimate Collection with various Gibson Les Paul Standard owned by Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman, Gary Moore and Peter Green. Meanwhile it shall include the one owned by favorite guitar player Mick Ralphs in this video

This was one of Paul's best improvisation live. The other one is at the end of wild fire woman live in Albuquerque. But I can't forget little miss fortune live with a surprise , HA !they never do the same thing twice, it just sounds like it cause of all the airplay. But they loved to push things to the limit live GOD bless them wherever they are!

The other way round, actually. Mick wrote Can’t Get Enough before One Of The Boys. Ian Hunter couldn’t sing CGE so Mick reused the chords for OOTB.

Whatever happened to them? They had a lot of talent. Lead guitar was exceptional for that time in the rock world.

They are somewhat still together. Mick Ralphs had a stroke and can't perform. Boz Burrell died. Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke are still performing with replacements. I saw them 3 years ago. They were phenomenal. Paul Rodgers sounds as great as ever.
