    Info pour la reconnaissance : Cette semaine (du 20 au 23/6) des travaux donc des feux à la sortie de Taninges puis la route de Verchaix à Samoëns est fermée jusqu'à vendredi 23. Le mieux c'est de passer dès Taninges par La Rivière Enverse et Morillon pour accéder au pied de Joux Plane. La descente de Joux Plane sur Morzine est aussi fermée jusqu'au 23/6 (pour regoudronnage surement) . Bonne reco à tous, moi je connais mais je ne fais pas l'EDT, trop dure !

      Thanks Iain - long time to go! I think the key tning with this Etape is not to underestimate the first 4 climbs in the Chablais. You need to arive at the bottom of the Ramaz feeling like you've done 10 miles!!!!

    Great vid Mike. Do we know the exact locations of the feed/drink stations in advance ?, and are they usually just water or do they have sports drinks ?, thanks G.

    • @CyclingInTheAlps
      @CyclingInTheAlps Před rokem +2

      Thanks Glenn. Usually around a month before we know the exact locations. Some are full feed stations with a good range of fruit, energy bars etc, some are just food stations. So for example, in the 2016 Etape there was a big feed station in the car park on the left just before you turn left at the Bank onto the JP and then at the top it was just water / energy drinks. I remeber in the 2018 Etape at Thoron Gliere they even had cold showers!!

    Great vid - definitely not underestimating this beast- it may not be the highest or longest but its evidently a constant punch in the face for 11km. Its definitely already helped my training knowing I need to prepare for tackling this after 3100m.
    Any idea what sort of pace is typical up this for the etape for those who just want to finish ??

    • @CyclingInTheAlps
      @CyclingInTheAlps Před rokem

      Thanks Noel. I think the goal is to arrive at the bottom of the Ramaz feeling ok and what happens on the Joux Plane happens! They will publish cut off times nearer the event however there is a natural cut half way down the Ramaz descent where there is a short cut to Morzine where I would guess they will be recomending riders not to continue past this junction after a certain time. One to look out for closer to the event.

      @@CyclingInTheAlps yeah I've been thinking about pacing and viewing that first half as a real just take it steady - zone 2 power phase - ignore everyone smashing it especially on the initial climb to top of Saxel (on profile it looks basically almost like a 19km steady 3% climb from Annemasse), keep Cou & Feu as steady as I can on the sharper bits (Jambaz looks like no great concern & get to Rambaz effectively like I'm ready to start rather than feel like I've already done 2000m. I'm training pretty solidly for it to make sure I enjoy as much of the route as possible - got a stupid hard event in May & off for heat training camp in June in Mallorca- fingers crossed it'll all mean something come CdJP

      @@nobbycycles You are doing the Fred Whitton? I was supposed to do it this year but Covid struck. You are right it letting everyone go and sticking to a plan. My best ride in the Marmotte was by riding strickly to power.

      @@CyclingInTheAlps.I'm doing the Struggle Yorksire Dales event - 108m & 9700ft of up - with some absolute stinkers on route (incl Park Rash) should be a decent warm up for practicing nutrition & stuff as it'll be a hard day - the Dales beat you up with short sharp punches repeatedly

      @@CyclingInTheAlps Marmotte looks a decent challenge for another year maybe - I fancy the Fred at some point but I'm not strong enough yet to take on Hardknott so maybe another year for that
