The Legion has been playing Neck since the song first came out in 1984. They are not copying Southern or anyone else. And Sweet Love is a Legion staple as they've been playing it since the early 2000s. They actually played it at A&T on Nov 5, 2022. A&T played their version in Feb. 2023.
One band one sound
*I LOVE NORFOLK BAND*
Tell them Mrs. Diva1 😂
I want to see MDFS torch Southern drum line 😂😂. It wouldn’t even be fair
I like Norfolk style
Under any circumstance skipping MD is CRAZY😂
Craaaaazy😂
They havin’ big fun!!!!
Clean
Now all I can say is this THE SPARTAN LEGION is the type of band that has levels like Denzel in the Equalizer. Please don’t entice them to put out at level four.😂😂😂. This band is an amoeba. When you think you have their number, they show you a side of them that most people are like well what can they not do? The heavens will always resound with their magnificent wall of sound, and every musical measure will be the source of auditory pleasure.BEHOLD!
Now this is a comment!
They sound goodt!!!!🔥🔥🔥
If we are being honest NSU was the first band to play Neck there’s an article on it. So that means southerns version sounds like there’s 🤷🏾♂️
We need receipts 🧾
I mean that is a known and played song in the dmv area
edit: just like overnight scenario (pancake house) 2 songs later
Norfolk State University Marching Legions has always had tradition since the 70's when i was there, graduated 1978...
Nice band sounds good❤
A&T is playing Sweet Love now because NSU stole the show last year from A&T when they played it during the 5th quarter. NSU stole A&T's home crowd.
Saved the best for last I see💚💛BEHOLD!!!💚💛
That “Calling”was on my top 5 song list that I wanted to hear a band play this year🔥🔥
It’s not Sunflower (that is from the first Spiderverse movie), that song is Calling by Swae Lee and A Boogie.
Right artist wrong song lol
Swac bands are definitely sleeping on them. While I love SBOTS, this is the band I grew up on and have seen in person plenty of times. They gonna mess around and be at the top of the rankings
I agree
I remember seeing them at a couple band battles in high school. I always preferred them over Hampton and VSU
they honestly the best sounding hbcu band rite now
I was looking for the high note to im Freak Mo More. Lol
KB I wish north folk join the Swac bruh they got the total package for a HBCU fr and this coming from a Swac band fan ! They got 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️
Norfolk pronounced “NAWFUK”
As to who came first…pretty sure NSU was the first band to play Neck…like ever . Don’t shoot the messenger tho 😅
We need receipts 🧾 fam
@@KBThaBandheadno need. Nsu was the first band ever to play neck.
Definitely been seeing NSU play Neck since the 80s.
@@KBThaBandheadHBCU band channel did a report on the origins of who played Neck first and it was Norfolk then Texas Southern…find the clip and that will be your receipt
KB they played BeScared first. They always play BeHold as their closer
Kb you know SU and nsu share the same bloodline right? They Sound Great 👍🏿 I think 🤔 it was Dr. Paul adams who went to SU then over to nsu… also arranged
Dr. Adams taught me how to project my sound! He was the legit truth! 💯
But the originator was Emery Fears that came from the Great I.C. Norcom High School the second oldest historically black high school in the country.
So are you saying NSU is mini version of SU? 🤔
@@KBThaBandheadNO….Norfolk is Norfolk based on the concepts incorporated by Emery Fears, the originator of the Spartan theme and presentation that you hear throughout their music…Sanford and Adams made sure to keep that tradition and current directors, Bethea and Sanders, have continued and have expanded the tradition…in short, Norfolk doesn’t need to steal anything from any band! Y’all in the Deep South are so busy copying your master Southern, that you can’t be original
@@KBThaBandhead NCAT is to NSU like JSU is to SU. They hold their own in the MEAC.
BEHOLD THE GREEN AND GOLD!!!!! 💚💛
Get ready to see some videos of NCAT too! Their fun fest is tomorrow and the band will be playing
They borrowed from Norfolk, because Norfolk were the originators or it
The only nostalgic song that even matches Behold is Spotlight Groove the legion is TUFF…
When the band chants on fight song the tubas play full
KB… Legion had this version of neck yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars ago. Do the research 🔬😅
TSU was outside as well
Version…who knows what area Neck started?
Neck was written by a band student at NSU in the early 1980’s
@paul1foreman Mr. Terry started something with that "Somebody got a Booga up they nose when they played Howard.
You forgot about Tennessee State University they were outside as well
NSU vs The Human Jukebox will definitely be a fierce battle.
But for some reason I think that the beef between The Ocean and the Jukebox will find it's way to the forefront.
NSU is definitely about their business tho. So is the Jukebox!
NSU has been playing "Neck" since 1983. All others are imatater's. Southern is a biter they stole neck from Hampton University when Southern and Hampton used to play in the Motor City Classic in Indianapolis in the late 90's. Hampton stole "Neck" from NSU cause they were tired of NSU kicking their asses with it throughout the 80's and early 90's. Yes HU bit "Neck" from NSU facts.
1984 but you're right though
9:55 Migos Freak no more tho 🔥🔥🔥 Southern and JSU 👀y’all need to schedule a game or TSU y’all got competition
We gon see At Nationals
Ready to see SU vs Norfolk no lie 🤝🏽
Norfolk is great but damn that size difference (in brass) still makes it very uneven
They both did well at the National BOTB. SU showed strength in numbers in the stands but NSU took it on the field
@@taylormaid6721 I agree. SU had more power for sure, but it was nowhere near a lopsided battle. Add in Norfolk’s sound quality and it was a very entertaining battle. Not to say the quality was drastically better, just very different from SU which is a relief from the many SU copycats that they typically battle.
@deemanDavid SU had a better sound than in times past. It was definitely a clearer, more pronounced sound.
Come on, NSU was first with Neck. Confirmed! HBCU Gameday article, Dec 30, 2019.
This is fire
They’re not majorettes. They are dancers. Hot Ice to be exact. And the “cheerleading moves” are due to having choreography that is not as fluid in motion because they’re dancing to THE FIGHT SONG. #HOTICE05
BeScared is Behold played backwards, I believe. Thats why you kinda think it's ts the same song when you hear it
Take your pick on who you like. But we all know that the Jukebox, with their writing for power style has been at the top of the HBCU marching band food chain since forever.
They just happened to be the most imitated marching band on the planet. Marching style and writing for power style. High Schools and Colleges.
I like NSU, A & T, Tenn St and more, but I don't see bands attempting to copy what you do. If so, not on the scale like that of the Jukebox.
So superbowls, rosebowl parades and presidential inauguration. I know we all get invited to perform at these events, but if you wanna count, the Jukebox and The Marching 100 (Rattlers) leads the list.
Many have tried to downplay the Jukebox's writing for power style, but they always make their way to the top as the band to beat somehow.
Well, they haven’t been voted the best HBCU band the last two years! Secondly, what other conference bands want to copy another band in their conference other than the swac🤷🏾♂️…it would be tooooo obvious to copy Norfolk other than their sound, drilling and writing…their whole Spartan theme does not fit with any other HBCU….so copying them would be too obvious…now copying Southern is easy, that’s why you see all of these southern bands doing it…it’s easy to just blow as hard as you can on 90% of your songs than to be musical 90% of the time…do you see many bands not in the Deep South trying to play like Southern? No because that type of interpretation of music is not popular up North…a lot of bands in the Deep South play to the lowest common denominators…
lol MEAC and CIAA drumlines didn't start using tonal bass drums until the Legion did and more bands are playing towards the press box because of the Legion. Their influence is felt more than you think. Neck was played by the Legion as a stand tune in 84 now all MEAC and CIAA bands are playing it. NC&T changed their whole marching style to incorporate more corps elements. Same with Hampton and Howard. The Legion was doing that for decades. And speaking of the Tournament of Roses Parade, it wasn't SU or any other SWAC band that was personally asked by the parade committee to stop the parade and do a grandstand performance. SU marched in the parade during the TOR. The Legion performed there.
@@liquidlightzTeach the children!!!
Not gonna lie went to aamu back in the day. This band sounds like a swacc.. band. Deep book of music. I would not sleep on this band. I think they will embarrass some of your favorite bands. Would love to see asu vs them. And I can promise that southern would not bring a small band to blow at them at backu....
Nearly every band that has adopted the Jukebox's writing for power style once claimed this " we sound better than you crap". Jackson State comes to mind 1st. Now they, and nearly every other swac band writes for power. Heck even Gram is writing for power now. They also grew weary of being smashed by the Jukebox's overwhelming power.
Look, wind ensemble season is over. We cannot hear all of those saxophones and clarinets from our side of the field. We just hear your brass and piccolos.
We pride ourselves on our Big Brassy Sound. This is football season and your fans needs to hear us. So we make sure they do.
NSU, it will come a day when we get to have that zero qtr with you. Out drill your PWI band on the field, and clean you up in the 5th. So keep talking.
Interesting take. Well since most people said the Legion had the best and most balanced sound and show at the Houston BOTB and some said that either it was a draw or Norfolk took the w during their zero quarter battle I guess you don't have to work on your analysis again. I mean if you are really the Kangs no one should be mentioning any other band except for yours at the end of an event like that. I did enjoy Southern's Grand stand performance when they did the Rose Parade in a couple years ago though. Definitely trendsetters 🥴
🤣🤣🤣 I LOVE THE JUKEBOX AND THEIR PRIDEFUL FANS BUT PLEASE DO WHAT YOU DO BEST DONT COME FOR THE LEGION AS IF WE ARE GONNA GET DOWN OR LAY DOWN ..it will never happen BEHOLD! 💚💛
Man they always hit high notes, just stop it!!
The legion bout to hurt some swac feelings. Wait til yall hear the balanced power smmfh..... and they aint even really trying to "crank". So just image when they do. Keep that in mind swac fans....
Swac bands face this kind of sound nearly every week. This is nothing new to them.
Don't get out over your ski's
@@cinemuh the difference is its clean balanced power.....
SWAC IS THE SEC FOR BANDS, JSU SOUTHERN SEE EVERYONE'S BEST EVERY WEEK
@@clarkkt77able yall trippin..... let's just be honest, jsu and su are know for cranking. Yall keep thinking the legion can't do that. Let's not act like yall aint hear the power and strength from the legion.... and they was chillin. They wasn't cranking. Not to mention the legion is balanced and they musicianship and pen game is on point....
@@clarkkt77able and please don't get it twisted, I like jsu and su. Always have but the legion something special.
History teaches us that the Jukebox's DNA was manufactured on cranking. Some takes this as their entire make-up. They will prove you wrong at every turn.
This doesn't mean that other bands cannot crank. But they do it to prove that they can. The Jukebox does it because it's who they are.
Other bands crank. The Jukebox performs as usual.
This is what the Jukebox brings at you 100% of the time. You can cry foul, but the crowd enjoys this:
czcams.com/video/YLz1IEGAgRY/video.htmlsi=Fy3CLNhWOllcHH39
😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣
Bro that will not be a battle bro southern will straight SMASH them with the band they had at fanfest 😂😂😂😂
And then you woke up….has Southern smashed them when they were on the SAME field? Nope!! Oh I forgot, field shows don’t count….the stands are where it’s at😂😂😂😂
Not on the field. Unless Southern bring out the gimmicks (dancing white boys, literally jumping through hoops) they can't see the Legion on field shows. Nobody was talking about Southern's field show at the Houston BOTB. They were talking about the Legion's show though. And please don't let us pull up clips of SU where mellos didn't know the music, trumpets overshooting notes and sounding flat. Compare the energy and sound from SU's fanfest to this. Even the crowd was bored watching y'all. There is a reason why the Rose Parade committee DIDN'T pick SU to stop the parade and do a grandstand performance. They know how y'all really sound. 😏
This band sounds amazing but for some reason they’re boring to me. The dancers move like cheerleaders.
