He shows us the river slums, he shows how people live along the railways, he shows how people get by in everyday life and we also visit the hoods of Jakarta where he tells us about the fighting that still happens today between rival gangs in Jakarta Indonesia.

That driver is a really good "real Jakarta" tourist guide, didn't gaslight you, asking the kids to buy the cheaper ones 10:55, showing the alcohol culture in Muslim country etc. Although I expect to see the more dangerous "hood" (or kampung) like Tanah Abang or Priok, as a native Jakartan, this is a gold "content".

💯 brother!! We had it drilled into us as kids in Australia and it worked…. Education in schools from a young age is vital, but it seems non existent in most countries. Not hard to implement into the curriculum so I’m not sure why these countries don’t do it.

That vehicle is called a bajay in Indonesia. Tuktuk is more of a Thai term.

I wonder how did you feel when you were drinking and thinking that you could be asleep any moment in the middle of the hood of Jakarta. That's very brave of you, even me as a local I wouldn't dare to do that. The guy is great, might overexaggerate a bit sometimes, but based on his cicumstances I can understand his point of view. This whole video though, man, hats off, this is an eye opener even for a local like me. Appreciate this a lot man.

Yeah I’ve always felt pretty safe in these areas, the only time I genuinely felt uncomfortable and unsure was when i was offered tea in Egypt … it just seemed suspicious how the gave it to me and all crowded around to watch me drink … maybe I was paranoid, but I was playing it super careful.

It's not dangerous. You can find these "kampung kota" city neighborhoods all over Jakarta, tucked behind major roads and luxury shopping malls.
The place where they got out of the tuk-tuk is where Jl. Pulo Gundul meets that canal. About 2km east of the National Monument
I wouldn't classify this as "hood". It's definitely the more poverty-stricken parts of the city. In terms of shootings, I would definitely take his stories with a grain of salt. Guns are extremely difficult to acquire in Indonesia, especially for low-level gang organizations in the kampungs like his.

Hey Marcos, I have lived in Johan Baru, Jakarta and the slums from the airport to Blok M is extremely shocking that I had never seen before in my life. It just goes to prove the Muslims don't really give a rats arse about all types of Muslims. The country is riddled with haves and have nots. The divide between rich and poor is an example of how wrong Islam does not serve the common people fairly. Thank GOD we are blessed of the Christian Democracy and thats why so many from Asia and Africa want to live in Australia. Our beaches we take for granted. All states of Australia are blessed with beaches, fresh air, no pollution, and amazing fruit/vegetables. We are blessed to be born in the Lucky country still. Even though our rent has increased a lot and price of living but still we have so much to be thankful about.
