4th track off of Judas Priest's 1984 album "Defenders of the Faith". I'm sorry for any mistakes in the lyrics, and make sure to let me know if you notice any. Thanks for watching!
Along deserted avenues
Steam begins to rise
The figures primed and ready
Prepared for quick surprise
He's watchin' for a sign
His life is on the line
Sworn to avenge
Condemn to hell
Tempt not the blade
All fear the Sentinel
Dogs whine in the alleys
Smoke is on the wind
From deep inside its empty shell
A cathedral bell begins
Reading out its toll
A storm begins to grow
Sworn to avenge
Condemn to hell
Tempt not the blade
All fear the Sentinel
Amidst the upturned burned-out cars
The challengers await
And in their fists clutch iron bars
With which to seal his fate
Across his chest is scabbards rest
The rows of glowing knives
Whose razor points in challenged tests
Have finished many lives
Now facing one another
The stand-off eats at time
Then all at once a silence falls
As the bell ceases its chime
Upon this sign the challengers
With shrieks and cries rush forth
The knives fly out like bullets
Upon their deadly course
Screams of pain and agony
Rent the silent air
Amidst the dying bodies
Blood runs everywhere
The figure stands expressionless
Impassive and alone
Unmoved by this victory
And the seeds of death he's sown
Sworn to avenge
Condemn to hell
Tempt not the blade
All fear the Sentinel
After 1 year of listening to this song, I realized that Judas Priest has created a story:
The Hellion: the beginning
Electric eye: the robot up in the sky who spies on all humanity
The Sentinel: the robot on Earth that destroyed humanity and by his AI, realized that this was the end of the planet
Blood red skies: there are few survivors that want to continue the battle against the AI.
Painkiller: the coming of the savior from the sky for humans, the destroyer of the robots.
Then I analyzed the album covers...well it kinda makes sense.
I would like to see a movie based on this songs.
The Sentinel - Best Judas Priest/ heavy metal song (for me)
what about grinder, metal gods, the ripper
^ not heavy enough. Painkiller, Hellrider, Nostradamus, The Hellion/Electric Eye, and The Sentinel are heavier than those. Still great songs though.
Brilliant! I'd like to add The Halls of Valhalla somewhere in there, preferably the end.
One of their best songs ever by far, this tour was my first concert as a teen.
Same with iron maiden
That whammy at 2:47 couldn’t have been placed any better. Absolute purity at its finest.
The perfect example of a near flawless song. Badass opening, intense verse, extremely powerful chorus, face melting solo, and the bridge leads into the final chorus so nicely. This shit gets me pumped every time I hear it!
and a great proggressive arpeggio riff
AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The lead guitar duel still gives me goosebumps after all these years :D
They were and are the best metal duet ever.
This track is probably the best vocal performance in the entire history of metal.
FN fantastic piece .
Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱 to all metal brothers and sisters out there .
Greetings from Sofia ,Bulgaria ,наздраве!
Rock on from here in So Cal...going to the show tonight with Queensryche opening!!
No other metal band has dominated the 80s like Judas Priest THEY ARE THE METAL GODS
51 years and still headbanging when I hear Priest. Rob still got the voice. And those outfits that make rock to roll.
thank god I am only 50, in the 80's i loved this song. Now I understand this song
This song is to me a masterpiece!!!!
this song IS a masterpiece bro!
Ronald Fournier It is mate!
We all feel the same way brother..
It is
A metal masterpiece!! ...cheers Sept 2018
I knew coke could be taken as a solid or liquid but not as a sound.
Audio crack for sure
You learn something new every day!
More like meth
If this song is coke, then Ram It Down must be like injecting Gasoline into your heart.
One of the top CZcams comments of all time!
Holy fuck!!! This is so metal my beard grew a few inches while I was listening!!
Hahaha
It is really hard to pick the best metal song of all time, but I think this might just be it
swampthing94 have you heard Painkiller? xD
Valpix _ Yes I have. That is an all time great too
swampthing94 yep i know
:3
Enter sandman

Hands down, this is one of Priest's best songs EVER. That narrative Halford recites at the bridge
Best priest song
breaking the law
Bro, it's soo good!
Check out this version 😍 czcams.com/video/RHRGELe-u4I/video.html
I was such a Priest maniac back in the day. I went to their Turbo concert. Man what a concert! 20,000 fans at the old Richmond Coliseum in Cleveland.
The purest form of metal ever listened to.
SWORN TO AVENGE!
Tempt not the blade!
This is fun
Yessss this song fuckin' ROCKS.
Hell yeah.
Dogs whine in the alleys
SMOKE IS ON THE WIND!
Lightning Rook From deep inside its empty shell
It's 100% impossible to not headbang to this song.
Gotta love G.T. and K.K.'s epic solo battles.
This song is so well thought of and created that it still grabs my full attention even after I heard it 100's of times. Some of Rob's most
dynamic vocals are on this track as well. It is songs like this that make Judas Priest the best heavy metal band in the world as far as I'm concerned
This and Jawbreaker are the best songs on this album. Probably the best songs in Priest's career.
BdaMonkey The 4 opening songs in this album are the best combo in metal. I would've bought this album even if it only had those 4 songs!
If you had to choose one song, only one song in the history of Heavy music to represent Heavy metal music, this song is the one!!!!
oh Hail to the mighty Judas Priest! raise your horns \m/
+Flying Whales \m/
Redeemer of Souls is better than Sentinel to represent Heavy Metal!
+Grecia Reynoso Nah this is a classic! and one of their best songs in my opinion
+Flying Whales but that song talk about the redeemer of souls and it's supposed that he's who do the deliverance of metal!
I think that Painkiller is the song to represent heavy metal. I think it's the purest metal song ever made.
Enjoyed Judas Priest's music for years. Never knew about this song until today. Goddamn am I glad to learn there are still more songs by these guys to listen to.
This is by definition, the quintessential lesson to all heavy metal of what true badassery sounds like!
I humbly kneel before the Metal gods!
This song has one of the best, if not the best guitar tone of any metal song period. Perfect mid boost, not too sharp, not too bassy and has a nice punch with harmonics without being too percussionistic. Pair that with the edgy poetic lyrics and that solo and damn. You have yourself a legendary metal song.
They are playing thru a rig with Marshall JCM 800`s. The gain is up to about 8. Idk if they are using any effects, maybe a little EQ, but that may come from the board. Great crunch OD, tubes are glowing red. Yes, great mids for sure that give a nice punch. Simple and very effective dude. I wish I still had a JCM. I am using a JVM 205H and one slant front 4x12 now. Great amp and very versatile, but the overdrive is much different. Better, and worse depending on what you are playing.
Friend of mine from school saw these guys in Tacoma on this tour.
During this song someone threw a
shoe onstage ending up hitting Rob
Halford. Halford never lost track of the guy who threw it so during the next chorus he points directly at him
and screams, CONDEMN TO HELL!!!
A couple of corrections in case no one has said anything yet:
1. A cathedral bell begins *Ringing* out its toll
2. Across his chest is scabbards rest The rows of *throwing* knives
3. Unmoved by *his* victory And the seeds of death he's sown
Thanks for posting this great song!
@Jacob Overy The hell does that make sense?
1a A storm begins to GROW
screams of pain and agony RIP the silent air
Unmoved by HIS victory and the seeds of death he's sown.
Sworn to avenge CONDEMNED to hell
@Ron Stearns i always thought it was wrecks the silent air, but whatever.
Ironically, there are no lyrics on my screen.
@@thepotatoof4219 Knives go in scabbards
Back in 89' as a teenager,me and all my buds tripped listening to this song.I swear its one of the hardest trips I ever had.I actually saw the challengers standing in a smoke filled alley awaiting tje sentinel..lmao! This song will always hold an awesome place in my mind because of that night.
The best Judas Priest's song !
Right!
+Corentin Wavelet
Its fantastic!
+Corentin Wavelet yeah!!
Agree
Overall Defenders of thr Faith is a brilliant album
Nearly 35 years later and this still remains the most bad ass song ever recorded.
I’d you’re under the age of 20 and know this song, your parents have a good taste in music and so do you
Or you just found it on your own accord
I'm 14 and found this by myself
i thank rockstar games for making vice city and vice city stories to get me into some good shit like priest
Only 15 and can rip this solo on my Ibanez!
I’m a metal head because of my mother’s best friend lmao
the FIRST album I bought on my OWN with my OWN money!!!! This song ROCKS!!! Any good fan of 'The Road Warrior' type movies would have to LOVE this song!!! The images that are in the lyrics - awesome...always a fav of mine!!
....what more can be said - the Gods of Metal have spoken ...... or should I say their roaring Marshalls and the Voice of Halford have spoken.......and none can convincingly speak thereafter so mighty was this song ........many have followed .......precious few have been worthy.
One of the best songs ever written. Feel like its the first time I hear it, every time I hear it.
A cathedral bell begins
Reading out its toll
A storm begins to grow
Its the Nameless King!!!
rattleXhead Dark Souls 3 and Priest is a holy combo
I can listen to this song over and over and never get bored.
It goes through my head very often. One of those songs where thats not a bad thing.
This song sends chills down my spine every time!
This song should've been used for the first Terminator movie 1984
+Shawn Hellion Or Berserk Guts vs 100 men.
Nah, Blood Red Skies is the Terminator song.
This and Queensryche N. M. 156
It should’ve been used in Mad Max it’s about a survivor in a post apocalyptic world
Personally I've always thought this would be a perfect dark take on Batman.
The rhythm guitar tone, especially in the opening of the song is just incredible!
Les creme brûlée? Is that you?
I've just learnt to play this song on guitar and what a great song.
Unmatchable song. A classic of class and intensity. Long live the Sentinel! LONG LIVE JUDAS PRIEST!
HELL YEAH!
For me the best heavy metal band of all time.
One of the greatest rock voices of all time. He's Metallic Mercury. Molten metal drips from his fangs.
Underrated masterpiece
Love this song. You really can't beat this, along with Freewheel Burning, Painkiller, One Shot at Glory, Victim of Changes, or All Guns Blazing.
One of my all time favorite Judas Priest songs it freaking rocks Rob Halford is the best
God damn, THAT is a metal song! Why the hell don't bands step up and try to write songs like these anymore? We've got too many breakdowns and not nearly enough face melting solos today.
One of the greatest solos!
One of the greatest bands!
He is the Metal God.
Oscar Adrian Arellano i agree
1° Black Sabbath
2° Judas Priest
@@franklin5194no. Judas Priest is number 1.
One of the greatest metals song ever.
screaam for mr.halford!
lol yep
Jmj 666
This song is so amazing. The lyrics are fantastic, the story is epic, the overall sound is wonderful.
Probably my most favourite Priest song.
THIS GREAT SONG IS THE GREATEST SONG OF THE METAL GODS. IN MY OPINION. I HAVE LISTENING TO THE SENTINEL, ABOUT A MILLION TIMES SINCE IT CAME OUT BACK IN 1984. I WAS ONLY 19 YEARS OLD, SINCE THIS MASTERPIECE ALBUM CAME OUT. ITS IN MY HEART AND MY SOUL, FOR ETERNITY. THANKYOU ROB HALFORD AND THE BOYS. JUDAS PRIEST. VINCENT LA VALLETTA MALTA.
Robs screaming gives me visions of golden fire when I listen with my eyes closed. Truly sublime, thank JP.
Goosebumps every time I listen at this song.
One of the best songs I've ever listened
I'm glad they played it live when I saw them this past May
Saw Priest for the first time on this tour the day before I turned 18 in Salt Lake City, UT in 1984. The flame from my bic lighter bent backwards from the sheer volume. They played this song at that show. What an amazing spectacle.
Priest was on top of the metal world when they did this tour
I saw Judas Priest Friday night and they played this song!! I went crazy cause it was 2nd song they played which surprised me. Only thing I hated was besides me the crowd was dead for Sentinel and Out in the Cold.
My first JP show in February 1984
This brings back SO many memories! I played this record and Screaming for Vengence till they were wore out! I also went to both tours (along with several others) and they were epic! To me, this is metal at its finest.
Wow. Those shows must have been INCREDIBLE !!!!
Nothing better than some Judas Priest screaming loud in my ears!!!!
I was a 15 year old kid jaded by life and what it had done to my family.... I heard this song and I knew what I had to do.
I've never heard better tone out of any setup then on this album. It's been years now and the tone, richness, and punch of Glenn and KK's JCM's is just epic!
I'm an old tube guy! Modeling and rest of that jazz sucks when comes time to turn up the volume and lay waste. There is NOTHING like the sound of an EL34 at it's max!!!!
Hey you tube metal is a global movement and it will not stop. God bless all my metal brothers and sisters. Cheers from Clovis New Mexico
This song is shockingly amazing
How is that shocking?
May I be wrong, but from my point of view (I.M fan) I think this is one of the best moments of JP's entire career
Amidst the upturned burnt out cars the challengers await. And in their fists clutch iron bars from which to seal his fate. Across his chest in scabbards rest the rows of throwing knives whose razor points in challenged tests have finished many lives. (sheer poetry)...
true one of the best lyricists ever
Voitcu damn right
And that right there people is why for the most part I think the two albums without Rob didn't meet up to the standards of Priest fans. Glen is just not a words smith like Rob.
Well that and...they get a singer who can sing just as well as Rob, and they instead keep him from singing like that for most of the albums and have him singing like Lars or the singer from Alice in Chains. Then on top of that...the music just didn't sound like Priest.
just tap the FUCKIN KEG...…...FFFFUUUUCK
Loud and proud 1 13 22 never gets old.
Priest was firing on all cylinders with this album.. one of their best to me
Thanks for this song! I just packed a bowl and wasn't sure what to listen to. Defender Of The faith is now playing!
Defenders of the Faith just might the greatest Priest album.
Which is saying quite a lot.
Which automatically makes it one of metal's best albums, which makes it one of history's best albums...
It is.
It's a close decision with Hell Bent
This is the song that resume the whole meaning of HM \m/
METAL GOD.
need any questions?
Oscar Arellano How does him being gay change anything?
Oscar Arellano We could denounce you, this is prejudice. It's crime.
Tyler Finn Don't pay attention to people prejudice against humanity. Peace.
By far the best Priest tune ever. Something about it just makes you want to crank up the volume so the whole nieghborhood can hear it LOL
I'm raping replay button like crazy, this song is awesome. just like cocaine, you never have enought of it.
Isn't that the fuckin' truth!
well--- find the MP3, put it on replay, and you will save your replay button :P
This is, without a doubt one of the all time classics! I bow to the masters...
Now facing one another the standoff eats at time and all at once a silence falls as the bell ceases it's chime. Upon the sign the challengers with shrieks and cries rush forth. The knives fly out like bullets upon their deadly course. Screams of pain and agony rent the silent air. Amidst the dying bodies blood runs everywhere. The figure stands expressionless impassive and alone. Unmoved by this victory and the seeds of death he's sown!!!
listened to them since i was 14, and i am 47 now. Judas Priest ROCKS
This is the song by which all other songs should be measured.
This song is the quintessence of heavy metal, there's nothing more to say. Hail Judas Priest!
This song is just, it's so badass... Also, what the hell is an ad for JB doing here!? BURN IT WITH FIRE!
Paris R. Don't burn the ad with fire, burn Justin Buttfucker with fire.
THIS Fuckin' "GEM" IS FANTASTIC!! One Of My Favorites From Priest!!! A Killer Tune!!
How does Rob Hanford reach those high notes. I am a tenor but Rob has the range like no one else. Totally awesome!
He's not called The Metal God for nothing.
Many years of training and exersises. I am no vocalist but I understand that to get really good like him, you have to start when you are young. It takes a while to get where you notice improvments in range and projection
That groove metal drumming by Dave Holland simply magic !
This song is the best Judas Priest song, along with Leather Rebel and possibly Ram it Down. All three are rather underrated.
Dude. Don't forget painkiller
Andrew Parsons Painkiller was good, but far from underrated.
Yeah, I know, just don't forget it on the list of best Judas Priest songs ;)
But Painkiller wasn't one of the best in my opinion. It was decent, but Priest topped it with many other songs.
I thought that the drum intro and solos were absolutely incredible, but it could be that I'm a drummer I guess >.
It's one of the band's best story-telling songs...But it's "...Ringing out it's toll..." and "...the rows of Glowing knives..."...Great upload, man!
Is there any possibility in this universe, that this song could be played too loud ?
+Janek Franek Nope.
NEVER!!! I blast it on my soundbar!! I am gonna get an even better soundbar soon, with more wattage. I will shake this fucking house off it's foundation by playing this most awesome Priest tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Possibly; but it still deserves to be CRANKED UP!!!🤘😎🤘
@@mylovesongs2429 Make sure the song rings harder than the Cathedral bell.
as long as you don't go deaf, then you wont ever hear it again
Hope to hear this song live in May when Judas Priest comes here to South Florida.
I try not to over listen to this and Defenders as a whole because I don't want the greatest song on the greatest album to ever wear thin, as if that's even possible.
My son Daniel and I used to listen to this song all the time , then he died on 2/27/1998 .I listen to this song to always remember his life
Judas Priest album covers always reminded me of Power Ranger Megazords!
The greatest metal anthem of all time
I went to this tour in 84. Halford sounds just as good now!
I was born in 88 but I like hearing people's stories from the 80s and early..
So did I while overseas....
Iron Maiden and The Judas are my favourite metal groups
I would've never noticed the Patriots logo if you hadn't said anything.
Danny Ripper what thee fuck lol
i just saw it hply shit
@Swiatek702 much agreed.
x2
Just noticed those too, like wtf, lmao
Rob Halford is Still a God. His Voice send chills down my spine... Literally
Glad I found this. I was in the mood to have my balls crushed today.
now today all ya have to do is watch The Last Jedi.....ugh!
JayTyrus that movie is the fucking worst
After listening, their as hard as steel!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Always loved JP!!!!
I like how the album cover has those warp trails at the back
Same with screaming for vengeance
I thought it was a hotdog
I haven't heard this for ten days and now it sounds twice as good
At 3:50 when that single blast drops... I've gotten many bruises on my forehead at that moment over the years.
this fucking song still sets my blood on fire...
this is METAL...WHAT A GLORIOUS ARCHETYPIC ERA...
AND PRIEST
REIGNED SUPREME.
Whenever I listen to the Sentinel i think of the Sentinels from X Men wiping out the mutants
Now facing one another
The stand-off eats at time
Then all at once a silence falls
As the bell ceases its chime
Upon this sign the challengers
With shrieks and cries rush forth
The knives fly out like bullets
Upon their deadly course
Screams of pain and agony
Rent the silent air
Amidst the dying bodies
Blood runs everywhere
The figure stands expressionless
Impassive and alone
Unmoved by this victory
And the seeds of death he's sown
Other bands have a slow intro -
but the Priest just dives right in! Rock Hard Ride Free!
