    We had a USS Indianapolis survivor living in our community who recently passed away. I hope that this movie conveys the courage and honor of the crew that served aboard her.

    900 Sailors died as a result of this attack. No one came to rescue them because it was a classified mission so their whereabouts were completely unknown. This is a story that absolutely needs to be told. Save your jokes and stupid comments and show some respect. I look forward to seeing this.

      Dane Kunes what's worst is that the navy blamed the captain for not zigzagging while the sub commander made it very clear to them that they could still hit the ship even if it goes to zigzag

      No one came to their rescue because the dock hand messed up and checked the ship off as if it was in port. The Navy had lost a ship for 4 days, and they found the survivors purley by blind luck.
      The navy lost a ship due to their own incompetence, blamed it on the captain, and swept it under the rug

    This actually happened. They tried to charge the commander of the Indianapolis for incompetence, because the Japanese sank his ship after delivering the atomic bomb, and the majority of their man got eaten by sharks. The US even brought the commander of the Japanese submarine who sank the Indianapolis to testify against the commander of the Indianapolis after the war... What a shame...

    Japanese submarine slammed two torpedoes into our side, Chief. We was comin' back from the island of Tinian to Leyte, just delivered the bomb. The Hiroshima bomb. Eleven hundred men went into the water. Vessel went down in twelve minutes. Didn't see the first shark for about a half an hour. Tiger. Thirteen-footer. You know how you know that when you're in the water, Chief? You tell by lookin' from the dorsal to the tail. What we didn't know... was our bomb mission had been so secret, no distress signal had been sent. Heh.
    They didn't even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, Chief, sharks come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into tight groups. Y'know, it's... kinda like ol' squares in a battle like, uh, you see in a calendar, like the Battle of Waterloo, and the idea was, shark comes to the nearest man and that man, he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin', and sometimes the shark'd go away... sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that shark, he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. Y'know the thing about a shark, he's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'... until he bites ya. And those black eyes roll over white, and then... oh, then you hear that terrible high-pitch screamin', the ocean turns red, and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin', they all come in and they... rip you to pieces.
    Y'know, by the end of that first dawn... lost a hundred men. I dunno how many sharks. Maybe a thousand. I dunno how many men, they averaged six an hour. On Thursday mornin', Chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland. Baseball player. Bosun's mate. I thought he was asleep. Reached over to wake him up. Bobbed up and down in the water just like a kinda top. Upended. Well... he'd been bitten in half below the waist. Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, a Lockheed Ventura saw us, he swung in low and he saw us. Young pilot, a lot younger than Mr. Hooper. Anyway, he saw us and come in low and three hours later, a big fat PBY comes down and start to pick us up. Y'know, that was the time I was most frightened, waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a life jacket again. So, eleven hundred men went into the water, three hundred sixteen men come out, and the sharks took the rest, June the 29th, 1945.
    Anyway... we delivered the bomb.

One aspect of it I thought funny was how the director & co would usually approach the main actors after shooting a scene and tell them what needed to change in the next take... but this didn't happen when Nicholas Cage was on set. When Nicholas Cage was on set HE approached the director & co after shooting a scene and told THEM what needed to change in the next take lol.

      +TuriusRay because a single ship is easier to hide then multiple ships. Multiple ships make more noise so it's easier to pick up on Sonar so that's why they only sent one.

    A lot of people seem to be missing the objective of this film. It is not a work of fiction. It would be great to be able to rewrite what happened. However, this very emotional story is a tribute to those that didn't make it back and those that fought for all of us. These were real people dealing with unimaginable horror. The actors are showing us a small sample of military commitment. These people volunteer for this job. I for one don't watch these movies for who the actors are. It is for the historical lesson that we all need to understand. Just as the threats to our freedom today. Someday the events the terrorist have wrought will be flooding the screen. Hopefully it will show a successful ending.

    • @wulf7463
      @wulf7463 Před 8 lety +2

      Because this is based on a true story, how can you hide the story when it actually happened?

    • @Olderaccount17
      @Olderaccount17 Před 8 lety +2

      Just because it's based on a real story doesn't mean people will know about it. Specially if you take into account the fact that this isn't a massively well known story. If I were interested on how this movie ends, I should be fine as long as I stayed out of Wikipedia. But that doesn't matter anymore, because the trailer showed pretty much everything, so I'm not intrigued by it.
      They could have at least given people the opportunity to go into the movie not knowing what happened and, should the want to know, they could look it up themselves. Instead, they removed that possibility from the start.
