Rosalina in the Observatory - Clarinet Jazz Waltz ft. Mark Dover (The 8-Bit Big Band)

- Clarinet bad ass Mark Dover is featured in this beautiful arrangement of Rosalina's Observatory from Super Mario Galaxy as an etherial jazz waltz big band version with lush strings and harp! I've always loved this theme from the second I heard it, and it struck me as an amazing way that video game music can pay homage to the great classical composers from years past. Hope you enjoy!

Ah yes, you'd count yourself lucky to see a Waluiteor shower in your lifetime.
Waluyeeteor
only happens once in a million years
@@tabbbasco_sauce4545 less, every googelplex years
I love this comment
Can somebody explain this comment to me I got no idea what y’all are talking about.
Can we discuss the Raining T-Pose Waluigis.
No just observe how majestic they are.
We can yes. I thought they had excellent form but the team synchronization was off and could use work.
Waluigi should cameo in galaxy 3 (preferably t posing)
hey, SPOILER ALERT! some people these days...
@@shrekthehedgehogofficial did you really think it was possible to not discuss the waluigis
I hope you realize that this is the piece i was waiting a decade for.
So thanks, pals.
I didn't know I was waiting for it, but I was. This just made me realize it.
Me too. There will never be a game series like Super Mario Galaxy
wait
this game is a decade old!?!
jeez
@@tabbbasco_sauce4545 yeah, i think it was 2006. Not sure tho
November 1 2007, meaning it's 12 years old.
“The criminally underrated Big Band”
pov: you’re in a jazz club in 1946. you’re a time traveler. you slip the orchestra some sheet music.
This sounds like something I can throw on during Christmas and no one would notice
I hope they would notice! It's so pretty :)
Funny story: Mark was my first ever clarinet teacher, and he was awesome. Just a master at the instrument. His talent is simply impeccable, and I can't stress enough how awesome he is. He taught me a few really important things about the clarinet back in 2015, and I won't ever forget them. The other funny thing is that the Alto Sax 2/Flute guy Josh Plottner was ALSO my teacher after Mark, and I learned so much from him too! Both of those guys are badasses, just unbelievably super talented. Josh knows like 25+ instruments also, and has basically made it his goal to learn as many instruments as possible too lol. Anyway, I'm so happy to see this timeless piece covered by some of my favorite musicians and 2 teachers, it's definitely inspiring. Well done guys
Wow thats so awesome! The cycle continues thanks for sharing this!!
Beauuuutiful!
As a clarinet player who's first game was Super Mario Galaxy, this is my theme song. Thank you guys!
Yeah clarinet gang! The clarinetist really played well in the style of this too. I guess that's why he's a pro.
Whose
Welp this was the game I found out my first favorite song which was the observatory music and got scarred of the dark Mario's also played the clarinet.
NobodyBestFriend NBF yo same!
I definitely have to learn this song on my clarinet
Everyone's dancin' until the Waluigis show up. . .Then, they dance _harder._
they *boogie*
They be groovin'
I still can't quite believe you've managed to get such an amazingly high quality band together for this project. It's pure magic to hear these songs done true justice by so many wonderful musicians, and of course the arrangement.
@@The8BitBigBand Thank you for using for connections to share this kind of magic. It's a great gift.
@@The8BitBigBand If they ever remastered Super Mario Galaxy I'd want them to hire you guys for the music
“Settle down now, it’s story time...”
This is one of my favorite games for a reason, just outside the top 10. First story to ever make me cry. Honestly, we don’t need a Galaxy 3. I found my home in this one right here...
We don't need Galaxy 3. But it would be awesome if we get it.
@@nyoukki facts I'm fine without a galaxy 3 but it would make me so ridiculously happy
Honestly, a new Super Mario Galaxy would be sick, knowing that the next generation would experience this wonderful time themselves
@@j.d.7580 3D all stars has a port of galaxy one, the new generation will indeed experience this.
Well if Super Mario Odyssey 2 takes place in space then its Mario Galaxy 3 lol
God, the Comet Observatory theme always feels like home to me. After a tough boss fight or those damned purple coin missions (lookin' at you Dreadnaught), this theme really helped ease the nerves as you wandered around the pleasant little hub.
Three years too late, but dear god yes. But for me it was Toy Time Galaxy's purple coins mission that was the bane of my existence. 😡
I’m at college working on math homework, but this brought me back to sitting in front of the TV with my Wii at home.
Thank you guys for this. This was one of my favorite video games ever.
Sorry for nitpicking, but the strings aren't mentioned in the credits in the description, you might want to change that :)
@@The8BitBigBand You're welcome :) Congrats on the piece by the way, it's awesome, as usual with you all!
I had no clue a clarinet could sound that good
Look up Benny Goodman.
And Martin Fröst while you're at it! When played well, the clarinet is almost incomparable
I never got Mario Galaxy on the original Wii because my parents didn't want me playing video games since I was pretty young, but this brings back so many memories of seeing the commercials and my friends play it. Truly a masterpiece.
Hope you got a chance to play it since then! It's really such a great game, but also yes the sound track is a masterpiece
I was able to play it in 3D all stars. Not only is it a great game, but it looks stunning in HD!
I’m dancing to this as my wedding waltz later this year. This song evokes so many memories with my fiancé. Thanks for creating this track!
It was a huge pleasure to be apart of this recording session :) thanks Charlie!
You're welcome.
@@xmisteralex🧢🧢🧢
The bass ostinato in the beginning is so smart! It really borrows from Someday My Prince Will Come, the Miles' version, it's such a great callback!
Mark is such a great clarinetist wow. He plays Clarinet like a solo saxophonist
As a jazz musician I’m amazed at these arrangements you’ve been putting out, not only is this gorgeous, but after the key change, the recapitulation of the melody just exudes the spirit and sound of broadway and New York, it truly is incredible
Was so glad to be there for the first live performance of this!
Same here! Amazing show!
@@The8BitBigBand I hope this means you plan to go on tour. I would drive a long way to see you, but I can't really get a plane ticket.
Everything about this is perfect.

You might even say it's High-Quality.
This is so much better than I thought it would be
Holy crap dude
We should play his when we land on mars!
like ur idea here
YES
OH BOY WE HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS FOR YOU!
In the holiest of binary
Mark Dover is really good at dancing up and down a clarinet making it look like it's nothing
I tuned into the live stream right when this song played, cried like a frickin baby from nostalgia. Went on a huge ass nostalgia trip because of it.
Thanks for reminding me of favorite single player Nintendo game. Nothing will ever remind me how much I love this game more than Rosalina's Observatory and its theme.
Absolutely gorgeous- does a perfect job honoring how flawless the og was while still bringing such a unique take one it- bravo y’all!
Yep. The OST to this game was recorded with mostly live instruments, right? Including strings and brass? It’s one thing when the OG is just FM with four-voice polyphony, quite another when it is, itself, an orchestral piece.
Nice „Someday my prince will come“ reference in the intro. Love this piece and your version!
That clarinet player is NEXT LEVEL
Totally not about the cry with the memories flooding back to me.
Honestly, the level of polish on this chart is in a galaxy all it’s own, but Mark has got some major chops on the clarinet. This made an amazing ballad to show off your band’s skills. I remember my time in a big band. I always wanted to have strings incorporated and do more doubling (sax player, if you couldn’t tell). I always thought it was really cool to transition to flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, or piccolo for part of a piece, it really changes the chart IMO for that section, if done well.
My oh my, that clarinet is heavenly! And the string section! Brilliant work, guys!
omg, the oboe part just made me fly into heaven 😍🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️
3:37 Miles Davis My prince will come
The 8-Bit Big Band it was the piano that tipped me off, I didn’t get it at the beginning, the horns kind of masked it
The double bass at the beginning sounds similar to the 1961 recording.
The theme closely resembles the original Disney melody, so it makes a lot of sense to draw inspiration from the Miles Davis version.
You guys just made one of the most beautiful theme in all of Mario even better
I clicked this as soon as this popped up in my notifications
I love the clarinet soooo much! Why are all your covers so good
Waluigi T-posing
If I had a nickel....
Bringing out the brushes like that? You got my heart. Beautifully done. I have no problems with any of this.
Mark Dover, incredible clarinetist made this arrangement so special! Amazing!!
Everything sounds better with triplets.
idk man, but the nostalgia is strong with this one
Disney, hire Charlie Rosen for orchestrations.
I have had this in the background for approximately 10 hours, working on a project, and i still want to listen to this. Its beautiful
Something about this arrangement and this song itself just brings shivers up and down my spine and a big, cheerful smile on my face every time I hear it.
It's always a good day when you guys show up in my notifications!
I absolutely LOVE that clarinet!!! So incredible!
0:42 Yoshi egg steals the show
What a magical tune. And Mark is soundin like melted butter 😭
Is that good?
randybob275 it’s smooth and delicious
I've always felt like this song is similar to "Someday my prince will come".I think this intro confirms that you fee the same way.
Exactly!!! Thanks for noticing!
Usually I am not a fan of the clarinet (because I play it) but this song and others on this channel make me love it
These videos are SO underrated, every aspect of the production is fantastic!
Nice homage to the Miles Davis recording of Some Day My Prince Will Come in the beginning. Very nice touch.
I loved every single second of that! 😍. That guy is something else! I would love to be as good as him on sax! You sure attract a lot of talent 8-Bit Big Band, but deservedly so because you create some of the best music on this platform! And you absolutely nailed it with this piece, it was everything I hoped it would be! I hope more galaxy music is in the future! Melty Monster and other hot worlds, Spacejunk, the fan favourite Gusty Garden, The Castle/Boss levels, Buoy Base, Puzzle Plank, there are so many good ones to choose from! Keep up the great work guys I love your work! :D
I hope this band is chosen to compose the Illumination Mario Movie!! Top notch stuff!!!
Awesome! Love the arrangement and huge respect to the clarinet Solist - wonderful!
This is fantastic! Great job everyone!
Sounds like a French romance music, it's beautiful!
I love listening to this track off the album! Thanks for another great rendition of a great tune!
YES! I've been waiting for this for so long! Super Mario Galaxy is my absolute favourite game, and this brings tears to my eyes...
Simply amazing!
Where have you been all my life? This channel is so amazing, and I don't even know exactly how I found you. It was through the CZcams rabbit hole and... wow. Usually I just end up with memes, and now I just feel like crying, fit to burst with all these complex emotions your music produces within me. I can't wait to see your whole discography, each video. I hope you tour, I will pay you money, even though I have almost none to give being a theater sound artist myself. The arts are a hard life.
Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
Update: I signed up to support you a bit on Patreon. Gladly. It's not much, just a few bucks a month, but I'm glad I can at least contribute a little something of value. I don't comment often, but know I'll be listening intently to your music from this point on. Thank you.
I've listened to this dozens of times, but today is my first time noticing the Waluiteor shower.
This sounds heavenly. My heart becomes warm each time I listen to the song and an array of emotions just come out.
Always a pleasure to see an upload from you guys. A masterpiece as usual!
By far my most loved arrangement of all the ones done here at 8 Bit Big Band.
That clarinetist is absolutely phenomenal and the arrangement itself is extremely gorgeous. All sections get a great amount of playtime for passages and the swells for driving moments are sublime. I can't love this one enough.
Thank you so much for this.
Man, one of those sax players has a GREAT sound.
Beautiful, as always
The waluigi guild thanks you for his inclusion
holy shit pop OFF on that clarinet, boy yaasss
Absolutely incredible
This is just too AMAZING! I have no words to describe it!
I'm so glad I discovered this channel. I've already listened to both of their albums and they're both fantastic! Can't wait for more music videos
Beautiful as always
Fantastic arrangement! The clarinet in particular impressed me. I hope you have a good rest of your day
This is incredibly smooth and gentle. Chill vibes only.
This is one of my favorite songs from Super Mario Galaxy and I have been waiting for a long time since you guys posted the clip of the solo to listen to this. It was definitely worth the wait
This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard
Absolutely brilliant
Finally! This is amazing!
GLORIOUS! I've been waiting for a long time for this!
There are no words to describe how amazing this piece is.
Except for maybe two. Absolutely majestic.
A great piece turned into something even GREATER!! By FAR my favorite piece you guys have done!!!
All y'all's stuff is just too good. Keep it coming.
The art of this kind of music is making it seem easy!
So talented guys, love mark also
I have so much respect for whoever does the editing for these videos, you're amazing!
I literally just teared up. Beautiful.
This made my morning. Thank you for always putting out quality music. Your arrangements are beautiful!\
Oh yes! This is one of my favorite pieces in the soundtrack!
Am I the only one who hears some inspiration from La Valse by Ravel in that opening here? It’s magical how the waltz emerges from the soup of harmony
Its...Beautiful
this is dope, I find fascinating watching you guys playing those songs
that's one of my all time favourite video game songs. absolutely gorgeous
this cover is out of this world good!
I recently discovered this group on Amazon Music and ever since then I've been listening to their albums daily during my morning routine at work.
I love this song so much and I'm happy that you covered it!
Beautiful

That character art is so charming, I don't even know how you made it
