Route History
Route 246 began on 19th September 1998 between Bromley North and Westerham and Edenbridge Post Office as a replacement for Route 320 between Biggin Hill and Westerham and operating from Godstone Garage on Monday-Saturdays only. The route has operated as far as East Grinstead in the past Tunbridge Wells on Summer Sundays. Route 246 was operated with single dcekers.
Oprington Garage gained the Sunday allocation between November 2001 and 2002. On 4th November 2002 is when Route 246 was became what it is today operating in its current form between Bromley North - Westerham and Chartwell on Summer Sundays. The section between Cameron Road - Barnhill Avenue - Pickhurst Park - Mead Way is quite new and it was re-routed to serve this section on 30th August 2003 to provide Hayesford Park Drive with a direct link to Hayes Station.
On 25th February 2006 Godstone Garage closed and route 246 transferred to Orpington Garage.
On 13th September 2008 Route 246 was awarded to Selkent (East London Bus Group) from Bromley Garage for 7 years with new single deckers. ELBG was later acquired by Stagecoach in 2011 (the former owner of ELBG from selling it to Maquarie Bank in 2006 bringing East London & Selkent fleet names).
On 12th September 2015 Route 246 was awarded to Go Ahead London from Orpington Garage for 5 years with existing single deckers from Route 202 that were based at Croydon Garage that were later replaced with buses from Route 284 in 2018. Both Croydon & Orpington Garages are still Metrobus but now under the control of Go Ahead London.
On 19th September 2020 Route 246 was awarded to Stagecoach Selkent from Bromley Garage making a return to after 5 years with existing single deckers from Route 256 that were based at Rainham Garage. This video was filmed on a double decker, and these have made appearances on Route 246 from both Bromley & Orpington Garages in the past.
