My husband walked away from me and our 10 month old son at the time all our other kids are older. We have been together 17 years and he left us for a woman he had been having an affair with, that was a year and a half ago, he went to jail and is still there 10 months ago and I have no idea where we even stand. Ive remained faithful and determined although it gets so hard sometimes I just keep pushing forward and I keep praying and fasting and believing that God will restore our marriage. I have the exact same problem but in opposite. My wife couldn’t continue anymore mentally, and is prone to depression and overload. She left me regardless counselling and me trying to please her. I love her dearly and I always will but I had to let her go in peace. I hope she will one day have a change of heart and return to me, even though she made it very clear otherwise to me. 😓

A little back story about myself and the shit that led up to us splitting up.
I served 16 years in the Royal Marines. After a tour in Afghanistan in 2009, I met Elizabeth and we started a relationship. At first my head wasn’t in it, but we persevered and things were good. I knew I wanted to be with Elizabeth, after a period of time. We got married in Las Vegas (by Elvis) in 2011, life was amazing. I subsequently left the Marines, but I never had any closure with my experiences from operational tours. Elizabeth was finishing her doctorate in educational psychology, and decided she didn’t want to live in our current city, as my mum and sister didn’t get along with her. So we up sticks and moved to Kent. At the time Elizabeth was pregnant with our daughter, working in a really stressful job and no family support around us. I was working in anti-piracy industry and was away from home quite a bit. When Sofia was born I decided to quit my security work. However, with this, we took a massive pay cut to our finances. So Elizabeth was essentially the bread winner. It was ok at first, we had the usual arguments, children, money, me making bad decisions etc. Life was tough we were in debt and drowning. On top of this, we had a son, Jude. We decided to move back to the south west of England to alleviate the stress, as she had family in the immediate area. Initially, things were ok but nothing was solved by this move. Life for me became increasingly difficult. The following events occurred:
September 2017 I walked out on my family.
November 2017 I was diagnosed with severe depression.
May 2018 I was diagnosed with PTSD and almost ended my life.
I met up with Elizabeth over coffee and connected with her. We initially got back together late May and spent almost two months together. Life was good, we were happy, but I hadn’t fixed anything and had no plan of action. I had no treatment plan because of the waiting list and decided to manage it alone. Subsequently, it didn’t workout for me and I ended up leaving again. Life has been really difficult for me. I made all the mistakes alluded to in this video. Crying, explaining and I guess emotionally beating her down.
Fast forward to today, I started my treatment for PTSD and it wrote me off this past weekend. On top of this I found out Elizabeth had met someone and it completely span me out. I had the crisis team with me all weekend and I was just in bits about the whole situation. I was messaging Elizabeth saying, I’m going to change, fight for my family etc, but her defences are fully up. It’s hard not to message her about how I’m feeling, but I know I have to get myself right and prove to her that I am the person she initially met.

We've been together almost 9 years, married the last 2. We got together in middle School. I had a rough childhood and I'm still dealing with it. I've cheated on her a lot, and I run away when things get bad. She wants to just be friends for right now. I just want her back, I haven't cheated on her in 3 years. I don't want anyone else. She said that I need to work on letting people in and not pushing her away. She said she didn't want to be with me right now. I feel so stupid, because she said I could stay with her and stay friends....but I left and now I'm in a tent in my dad's yard crying like a baby. But I will save this marriage. I know she wants to be with me, she is just tired of me hurting her. I will save my marriage no matter what.

I'm doing nearly all the wrong things-( I suggested counselling, I begged, got emotional, argued, tried to be logical, done the guilt thing, just haven't threatened anything. And all that was just this morning. He moved out 4 days ago.

My wife left last Sunday. We have two son's who love us both and wants us together. I did all the things you said not to do, and your right. It made her think I'm weak. Now I will focus on me and what I like to do. I will be honest. I love my wife very much. It's hard without her. Can't stop thinking about her, but I will get her back. Glad I came across this video. Been married over 35 years and now spouse wants a divorce. Says he is not happy in the marriage and doesn't feel it's going to ever work out. I admit that I did all the things that the video said not to before I was aware. I want to save our marriage because I love my husband; but more important I want him to be happy. He deserves that. Starting these things today, I am going to bring the worksheet with me to see a therapist tomorrow. NOT A MARRIAGE COUNSELOR, a counselor for me, so I can focus on myself and improve. I think my first step is coming to believe I can and WILL be happy even if the marriage fails.

Thankyou so much Liam, for this simple, practical, doable advice. Everything you say makes sense. My husband and I have been together 2 years and married less than a year. Three months ago my husband went from being head-over-heels in love and the most loving man I could ever imagine, to being withdrawn, unloving and unable to communicate. He says he has finally realized that it is his pattern to fall madly in love, so much so that he makes drastic decisions like getting married, only to fall out of love and feel like running away after 18 months. A small tragedy for me. He ( agrees with you) that marriage counselling doesn't work. He is in therapy to " sort himself out", but says he is doing that for him and not for us. Working on a marriage sends shudders down his spine. I have told him I am committed to the concept of us and that I wish to remain married to him, but have had trouble finding advice on how to do that without his active participation, which is what makes your channel truly wonderful! My husband left two months ago and said it’s over. Said that’s he’s done. But I want to give it another try. I begged, pleaded, cried, yelled and screamed. He doesn’t think I can change.
