I grew up Cogic as a kid in the 80s and 90s and yes when there was convocation, I was used to the big fabulous hats that looked like a chandelier or when my parents was pulling up to the convention center it felt like you was at a Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercedes, BMW Jaguar dealership. But once you got in and heard the message and singing and dancing unto the Lord there was an anointing. As a child I really didnt know what it was but i could tell something was there. Now I'm 36 and for some reason not just Cogic but Baptist, Apostolic etc churches arent the same especially the black churches anymore.

I have been thinking the same thing. I am so glad to hear that you see the same thing. My grandfather was Elder James Cunningham. Ordained by Bishop Mason in the early 1900s. I am an ordained Elder, but to be honest it seems like we have become a church of money more than spirit. I miss the old church and the way we used to shout, and see God's power at work. Thank you for your insight and integrity.. Your Dad signed my ordination certificate. Many years ago.
My brother. Our church has become money driven and focusing on man centered worship. Bishop Mason, Bishop Ford, Bishop GE Patterson would be turning over in their graves.

Before any clergy name was announced in this procession, I pray God that the name of Jesus was announced, honored and cheered first before any leader entered. It is Christ who is the Chief... Bishop, Apostle, Shepherd, King of Kings, the "door" to the Kingdom. To see this pomp and circumstance is troubling. They believe a person can be saved without baptism (in water) where remission of sins take place. Also they believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are in operation today. Even thou the only way receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit is thru the laying of Hands of the Apostles and they are all dead. 1cor13:8-13 tells us the gifts will cease once all has been revealed or the word of God is complete. See your doctrine say a person is saved with evidence of speaking in tongues, now find me a scripture that makes that statement? Remember only the apostles spoke in tongues on the day of Pentecost not everyone.

Pomp and circumstance! Smh. Born in 58, spent the first 35 years of my life in this denomination. I thank God for the foundation that was laid in my life by this church, BUT...glad to be out of it. Mason surely wouldn't recognize it. Definitely wouldn't want to be a part of it now. More corruption and scandals in this denomination than imaginable. I still have many good friends who are still a part of it. I remember growing up and becoming a young man in here and the service could be in high praise and the presence of God in the praise. However, when the bishop arrived, you had to STOP PRAISING GOD (yeah you heard me right), and stand and recognize the bishop. This, besides other things irritated me until the day I left. It grieved my spirit till it would anger me.

I am not COGIC but instead of complaining about your leaders, pray for them. Whether they be doing too much or not just make sure all your hearts are right and that your Leaders know they be standing on the shoulders of prayer warriors.

Mona Lane I’m just saying, unless you’ve walked in their shoes, and God called you to lead thousands, then speak. I’m sick of people complaining about the church being in the state it’s in, when they do nothing to change. Revival started through praying and fasting, now it’s time to be the revival. When you keep praying, you show God that you need him, and when you continue to pray for your leaders, you honor God through that. Be the revival you want to see in your church. But we ain’t gonna achieve nothing by complaining and being judgemental. I will continue to PRAY.

Maybe the auditorium building is too large for a senior citizen to be walking through. It's not that it was some pompous act, but these places are huge. Oh praise God. Yes. HUGE. My dad would not be able to walk through a convocation auditorium that big without resting. It can be like a long, cold, drafty concrete labyrinth filled with inclines and steps.
We love our senior citizens. May God bless the person who thought of the idea. It was a good idea in that it was kind and considerate. Thanks be to God.

Well since the convocation is returning to Memphis in 2021, the particular occasion will be the rigght time to sort things out in the COGIC. The Midsouth Coliseum, the site of Bishop Patterson’s official day services from 1969-1973, has been mothballed for some years by now. Should there be any saints who are serious about having Convocatikn the way it was supposed to be, the Midsouth Coliseum can be used for the services, with the Cook Convention Center serving as an overflow area/ location outside of official day.... It would be right about time for smaller services to return to the Mason Temple ( it was built purposely to house COGIC services an activities), whilst larger events could be held in the Cook Convention Center. Musicals could be conducted in one of Cook Convention’s smaller halls, with late light services being held in locations like the Mason Temple, Pentecostal Temple COGIC, and the Original Temple of Deliverance sanctuary... Well the rest can spend their time in Fedex forum , enjoying what the convocation has become in these days..... The convocation isn’t what it was and supposed to be... Until the early 2000s the convocation was a powerhouse, with lives changed and miraculous events taking place .... The events occurring in this video has greatly diverted away from Bishop Mason’s convocations, let alone Bishops Jones, Patterson, Ford , Owens, and Gilbert Patterson’s convocations
