- THIS IS MY DAD'S FAVORITE SONG AND I JUST CAN'T SAY NO ESPECIALLY WHEN ICED LATTE IS INVOLVED.
Do you hear that?
It's the sounds of butterflies trying to catch up on you because you need your emotions.
There were A LOT of thought and meanings put into this video. And I was really excited. But unfortunately, some people cannot contain my excitement. Therefore, I'll unfortunately leave those hidden messages alone and you'll have to find them out yourself.

Value your butterflies, kiddos ;)
Saptain Cealant I value you ;)
I really love what you did with them :D
Beautiful job....by far my favorite animation and symbolism of the song and it's message. Though I don't think at the time Eliza was actually pregnant ( *i could be wrong* ) but rather remembering when she was pregnant with Philip. It's not unheard of for a mother in distraught over the death of her first child (or any child she brings into the world and raises or adopts and treats as her own child) to remember the time time when she was pregnant with said child. In Eliza's case? That would be Philip but again...i could be completely wrong.
I cry everytime i watch this video. I've been watching and listening to it on repeat all day. thank you so much for this video, and yes I will value my butterfly for as long as i can :)
Your Beautiful pictures made me cry. So moving
To add salt to the feels wound, Peggy died 8 months before Philip died. So Eliza was already suffering more; the affair, her son and sister's deaths.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
And Her daughters mental break down after Philip’s death
Apparently Alexander held Peggy in his arms when she died when the sisters were with their father
Anyone know Peggy’s last words? Hope they were something like “I always hated my name”
That, and her daughter's breakdown
A wife who loses a husband is called a widow.
A husband who loses a wife is called a widower.
A child who loses his parents is called an orphan.
There is no word for a parent who loses a child.
That’s how awful the loss is.
- Jay Neugeboren - An Orphan’s Tale - 1976
Art And_Stuff so... losing one child is worse than losing both your parents? Ngl I’d disagree
"There are moments when the words don't reach, there is suffering too terrible to name."

I really like this animatic because it’s the only one I’ve ever seen that includes their oldest daughter because after Phillip died her whole life was changed for the worst and she deserves a spot in this song
@Hay Thi Win Aung It's a mental illness, basically she had to be taken care of for the rest of her life and was always wondering when philip was going to 'come back from school'
Plus she lost the ability to recognize faces (unrelated to the syndrome I think)
I cannot find it's actual name but just assume it means an adult has the mind of a child forever until the person afflicted overcomes it, if they ever do
Like say in kindergarten when you couldn't understand the concept of death your mind is stuck like that while your body grows
@Hay Thi Win Aung In November 1801, when Angelica was 17 years old, her oldest brother Philip Hamilton died of injuries resulting from a duel with George Eacker. The news of Philip's death precipitated a mental breakdown that left Angelica in a state described as "eternal childhood", and often unable even to recognize family members.[2]
Angelica's nephew, psychiatrist Allan McLane Hamilton FRSE, described his aunt as an "invalid" and her condition as a type of "insanity".[5] Dr. Hamilton wrote, "Upon receipt of the news of her brother's death in the Eacker duel, she suffered so great a shock that her mind became permanently impaired, and although taken care of by her devoted mother for a long time there was no amelioration in her condition."[3]
Though the details of what occurred are not clear from a modern medical perspective, historian Ron Chernow similarly attributed the sudden and extreme deterioration of Angelica's mental health to her reaction to the death of Philip, with whom she had been very close.[2] Other modern authors have described the mental health problem, which lasted for the rest of Angelica's life, without discussion of causation.[6][7]
Despite her parents' best efforts to reach her, Angelica's condition only seemed to worsen. Her father had written his friend Charles Cotesworth Pinckney and asked him to send Angelica watermelons and three parakeets, as she was "very fond of birds".[2][8] After visiting the Hamilton home, James Kent tactfully described Angelica as having "a very uncommon simplicity and modesty of deportment".[2]
Obviously, I copy paste this from Wikipedia, but I guess hope this helps

This is one of the first animatics I've seen that actually shows how important Phillip's death was to Angelica, their eldest daughter. She was drowning in grief, and no matter how hard they tried to comfort her, Alexander and Eliza couldn't help her. It's really sad what happened to this family. I feel sad thinking about it.
Aspa rkles Exactly!
Duck duck Goose goose It impacted Eliza a lot too, if you’ve watched the original musical, she straight up bursts almost scream crying..
This is pretty much the ONLY animatic I've seen that makes reference to Angelica, or any of Eliza and Alexander's other kids besides Phillip. :P
(For anyone confused, Alex and Eliza's daughter was named after Angelica. Phillip referenced her in his "poem")
Duck duck Goose goose I mean what if she could actually see him
53 things that made me cry about this:
1.The emotion made in Eliza's voice
2. Emphasizing the feelings between each character
Hamilton wrote the other 51
For those who don't know, the girl at the beginning is Angelica Hamilton, Alex and Eliza's first daughter. This is some information I found about her which is really sad.
"Angelica was very close to her elder brother Philip who was fatally shot in a duel with George Eacker. The incident had a great impact on the 17-year-old Angelica, so much so that she suffered a mental breakdown leading to a lifelong state of insanity. Although her parents tried their best to revive her mental state, Angelica’s condition only worsened. Her condition was so severe that she had difficulties in recognizing her family members, and during her final few years, Angelica constantly referred to her brother Philip as if he was alive."
"Her aunt Angelica Schuyler Church bought her a piano which was sent to her from London. Angelica loved playing the piano. According to a grandson of Alexander Hamilton, Alexander possessed a ‘rich voice’ and loved singing popular songs of the late 1700s. More often than not, Angelica would accompany her father on the piano or harp. After her father's death, she continued playing the same old-fashioned songs on her piano until the very end"
I'm not crying, you are🥲
You put Angelica Hamilton in this, my heart can't take this pain.

i found and Easter egg when she says "the Hamilton's move uptown, and learn to live with the unimaginable" I know the while butterflies are just naritve ones but if u look there there's 7 chiodren and 7 butterflies, one for each of the children and there aren't 9 bc Eliza and ham are disconnected from their butterflies.

You spelt children wrong
W h o A
actually, i think that since philip died, there’s seven because eliza still is connected with the children but not hamilton.
During one of the performances, specifically during this song, Philippa had somebody close to her pass away. At a point near the end of the song when she and Lin stand next to each other while the ensemble finishes the song, she was actually crying not "stage crying" and she rested her head on Lin's shoulder. He noticed then glanced at her and whisper-asked, "are you ok?" and held her hand as they walked off stage.
- Peggy died eight months before Philip
- Alexander cheated on Eliza
- Philip losing duel against George Eacker
- Eliza's daughter had a huge emotional breakdown because of her older brother's death, like, she went "crazy"
- her husband DIES, after she forgave him
I'm just saying that Eliza has been through A LOT
And yet she lived for another 50 years.
Life threw the kitchen sink at her in the span of a few years yet she looked it dead in the eyes and refused to stop living.

More like she moved out with the children and went to live with her father in her family's mansion and gave birth to her sixth child in Albany. Phillip got really sick and since the local doctor couldn't treat him she had to return to New York with the kids. She gradually forgave him over the span of a year or so and they had two more kids.
The part that made me cry was when Alexander approaches Eliza was the flowers and he knelt down and put the flower in her hair. Idk why but I thought that was so sweet

what makes this even sadder is that alex and eliza's oldest daughter, angelica, went insane for the rest of her life after her brother phillip died
Something I noticed in this beautiful video.
Angelica Hamilton is pointed out. She went insane after the death of her brother and her father soon after. She never grew up, mentally, and swore that she saw Phillip. Neither Alex nor Eliza could help. She is seen 'seeing' Phillip at the beginning and chasing a butterfly which can represent a soul and that butterfly just so happens to be Phillip.
There is three main butterflies. A pink one (sometimes white), a blue one, and a green one. The pink, or white, one is meant to represent Phillip in my opinion. The blue represents Eliza and green represents Alexander.
Notice how the pink/white butterfly follows around the family and Angelica. And at the very end, disappeared. This could show that Phillip's spirit is now 'at rest' or pleased because his parents have moved on or because they have fixed their relationship.
These are all just my views on the video. It's absolutely stunning and your artwork is just... it leaves me speechless, in a good way. I started crying before the singing even started. Thank you for making this beautiful video.
Brooklynn Smith Thanks for voicing your thoughts, I was second guessing myself due to the colour change and how he seems to multiply sometimes. (Granted I really like the effects the multi butterflies were used to create. One butterfly for every person maybe? Like in the family image.
How did you read my mind? You thought what I was thinking about almost word for word.
Brooklynn Smith I mean maybe she actually did see Phillip - maybe she was a medium or something

How did I end up in the corner of my room clutching my pillow and sobbing while rocking back and forth you ask?
Now you know
You had to add the butterflies. That makes it a thousand times sadder. Butterflies are the sign of parents who've lost their children. In the hospital when babies are born dead or die during birth, they put purple butterflies on their crib.
Ravenclaw_4Life Yeah I remember hearing about that some women gave birth to twins and one died shortly after it was born. While in whatever the room with the cribs is in another new mother told her she was lucky she only had one child instead of twins not knowing that she’d had twins and tragically lost one so she started a program that lead to the purple butterflies being placed on cribs to inform others that the parents either lost a child or went through multiple miscarriages. Apparently I actually had a stillborn aunt because according to my Gram Pam her doctor thought he found two heartbeats when she was pregnant with one of my aunts and somehow had her period while in the middle of her pregnancy before giving birth to my aunt months later; however I don’t really trust her story because I, like the majority of my family think she should be in a nursing home and has early dementia at this point. I’d tell her about the butterfly thing, but knowing her she’d either A, start hanging purple butterflies in my aunts house or B, become convinced butterflies are trying to steal babies souls and requite them to satanism at birth. She’s already gone on severs all tirades about how Disney is secretly converting young children into forming satanic cults so I’m pretty sure she would easily believe that purple butterflies are how the devil requites babies to satanism and man this got off topic. Meant to just put how I heard the purple butterflies thing started but then I remembered one thing after another. Sorry about that
Today (9/9/2020) marks 164 years since Elizibeth "Eliza" Hamilton (Schuyler) passed away at 97 years old in washington.

Forgiveness. Can you imagine?
If you see him in the street, walking by her
Side, talking by her side, have pity
They are going through the unimaginable
thanks.

Wow 👌
Thanks
You included Angie and all of the other children! ❤️
That just makes it 10x sadder 😭😭 especially with Angie
MISS MAYRA isn’t she the one that went insane?
I like how you added the feelings of their other children not just Eliza and Alex. Siblings have feeling too
I shouldn't be crying over people who died 200 years ago... right?
Nope, keep on crying it's normal...
"forgiveness. . . can you imagine?"
CHILLS
YOU DID IT HURRAAAAAH
I love the whole flower thing.
I personally like to think throughout Alex trying to get Eliza back to him, he would do that everyday (put a flower in her hair while they were walking) bc how I see it is it didn't take a day to mend their relationship. What makes this so beautiful and heartbreaking to me is that Hamilton worked hard to get her back and it took a while.
I love your work. So much detail put into it. Keep it up it's so beautiful :)
I thought a song couldn't make me cry
Boy, I was wrong
and thought I was so smart....
ok i´m sorry for that one....
Me too

BOY WERE THEY WRONG
@@elischaotic4930 AAA NO NO NO
All of you are praising Eliza and she is strong too but Hamilton’s father left him, his mom died, his cousin killed him self, and he had tons of stress, plus his son dying, and then someone pressuring him into an affair and then dying at a young age
Yoah, don't forget Laurens please! Their romance had a great impact on Hamilton and he was never the same after his death.
sad how angelica hamilton thinks an speak to philips soul...so sad ;3; #rippip
Eliza Schuyler Hamilton
I may of crushed on Hamilton
John Laurens How dare you John..
Philip Schuyler Hamilton

Philip Hamilton Schuyler GET HIM PHILLIP
Elizabeth Schuyler *hugs mother while crying*
Well,I just lost my butterflies.
Glad to know you're not scared anymore!
when Angelica was chasing the butterfly- it was Phillip, she was playing with Phillip I'm crying so hard 😪😔
if you see me in the streets, crying my eyes out, talking to myself, have pity.
Alexander: I know I don't deserve you Eliza
Eliza: *DAMN* right you don't
Philip: Ma Pa I'm still here
edit: Truth is that Margarita 'Peggy' Van Rahessel Schuyler died of a disease when the sisters left to go upstate to visit their father
Alexander held peggy in his arms as she passed away from the sickness the sisters didn't know until they got back then the Reynolds Pamphlet was published and then pips duel his death and then a while after this Hamilton dies due to his duel
sorry if I have confused you I'm a history geek it's what I do
(edit #2): Don't listen to this with a broken heart due to being dumped yea my last three weeks before school ended was regret, anger, suicidal thoughts, and silence and going mute for half a day
Actually the Reynolds pamphlet was published one year before Peggy's death.
And she died of an illness not a disease I don't think it was curable back then.
Whoever broke your heart had their own reasons. So I won’t say they’re stupid, or you don’t deserve it. But you seem smart, and well read, and have good music taste. Take the breakup as an opportunity to focus on yourself. That’s all I’ll say.
You watch my hero academia
u dont just "go mute" thats so inconsiderate and kind of an asshole move to people who are genuinely mute and have been for probably most of their lives
First off, I love how much representation and thought you put into details, it really adds so much to the animatic. The symbolism added is amazing and I promised myself I wouldn't cry but here I am four and a half minutes later sobbing over a cold bowl of Raviolis and butterflies. Beautiful work as always :,)
BaguettesAreBæguettes please the raviolis... send some over. Captain sealant definitely needs some now after staying up all night just to finish this. Oh & some for me would earn you a huge huge salamat!
butterfly goes by:
me: THE UNIMAGINABLE
I love how this is historically accurate and most animatics people forget that Eliza was expecting but you didn't
*I CANNOT BELIEVE OH MY GOD I READ THE DESC AND IT MADE THE VIDEO MUCH MORE SADDER HOLY CRAP IM CRYING I SHIT YOU NOT WHAT THE FLIPPING FLAPPING FLIP OH MY JISOOS NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I CRIED OVER AN ANIMATIC*
I have a question
do you break hearts for a living???
edit:over 200 likes I don't even deserve this
edit:oh my nearly 400 likes help me I'm having a heart attack
ye ;)
Captain Sealant how dare you
Tishi love don't worry. Mine's not spared either!
you can have mine it didnt break yet
FAT DEMON thank you 😉
i really love how u included the butterflies. (they represent our souls/lives and is a symbol of ressurection) i feel like u put the butterflies in there to represent Philip, it really adds to the whole sAdness of the song ): it also means that philip was with his family, even through tough times, even when he's dead ):
the purple flowers that Alex gave to Eliza represent dignity, pride, success & accomplishment, i feel like he gave them to her as a symbol of appreciation, for what shes done for him, & sympathy for what shes been going through.
& the red flowers @ 3:36 i think represent true love, passion, respect, desire, & courage
The purple flowers were purple hyacinths, in flower language and symbolism they represent sorrow and asking for forgiveness. So in this case given the colour and the species of flower Hamilton was asking Eliza to forgive him, while also telling her what she means to him.
2:08. The symbolism. I'm crying.
This is such a powerful song, and a lovely video interpretation. For some of us, the unimaginable has happened. Remembering Elijah James Burton, July 13-25, 2003 - every second I'm alive. And holding his siblings as tight as I can, while setting them free to soar.
Thank you.
I will never not get goosebumps and a little emotional at "Forgiveness." This animatic amplified that. Thank you.
im like she forgave him and i cry for 10 minutes after oh my goodness this song is so underrated
I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying.
Oh wait... yeah, I'm crying.
AHHHHHHHH! You included their adopted daughter! I'M SO HAPPY!!!
(the age and timing are a little off, but I'm glad you included her. At least I assume the youngest girl is Fanny Anill).
For those who dont know: Alexander had a friend in the revolutionary war who died. So Alexander and Eliza decided to raise Fanny Anill as their own. When Fanny came to the family, her and Hamilton's oldest daughter, Angelica, became best friends. She grew up and left the Hamiltons just before the Reynolds pamphlet was published. This plus Philip's death took a HUGE emotional toll on Angelica's mental health. Who you can see in the first animatic scene at the piano with Eliza, and near the end running along the sidewalk chasing a butterfly. These events caused Angelica Hamilton to enter the stage of eternal childhood, where she would often talk to the air, acting as if Philip was still there.
Lillian Lunt fanny.... that poor child
Also what if she could actually see him
OK SO THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND RARE, AND I AM CRYING NOT BECAUSE OF THE SONG ITSELF (kind of but I mean I have seen Hamilton enough to basically have dulled it to me at this point) BUT BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT AND THOUGHT THAT WENT BEHIND THIS. NOT MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE INTO HAMILTON KNEW HOW MANY CHILDREN THEY HAD, NOR THAT ELIZA WAS PREGNANT AT THE TIME PHILIP DIED. WAHHHHHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH
*Sitting in a sea of my own tears*
This is a nice animatic...
Eliza's "It's Quiet Uptown" always makes me CRY, I'm like fine throughout the song and then bAaM the tears come in her part...I'm crying right now
Eliza suffered so much during this, multiple deaths, her children being traumatised from their brother’s death, the affair, her husband, government, just everything. By “multiple deaths” I mean her sister, Peggy and her son, Philip. Also, soon after, she had to suffer her husband’s death, as well, she witnessed Angelica dying. Angelica was all she had left, and now she just had herself and her children. Except.. She also outlived her fifth child.. her son William Stephen who was born on August 4, 1797 and died on October 9, 1850. I wish I could just go to her back then and give her a hug, reminding her it’s all gonna work out..
Fun fact: my names meaning is butterfly and ever since I could remember my dad and family would call me ‘butterfly’ and this made me so emotional 😭
i'm a rebel I read the description before the video
Entity same
the songwriting that went into this will never cease to amaze me. I am the kind of person who doesnt really cry watching the movies that make everyone cry, but ten seconds into this song im sobbing. lin-manuel miranda's ability to evoke emotion is amazing, and truly touching
That's okay, I didn't need my heart anyways.
But I will be sending you the medical bill for causing my heart to shatter
