  • It's time for summer cruisin' and we need to take care of some yearly maintenance on our Datsun 521 Pickup before we hit the streets this summer. We have to fix a sticking brake drum, check the fluids, give it a wash and apply some shine! Most importantly, we need to cruise along some country backroads.

      Went to a Cars 'n Coffee last year and parked across from "supercar row" I had an Instagram influencer point out that my little Datsun was getting more attention that all the Lamborghinis parked across from it.

      I still see them sometimes on Marketplace. They're pretty inexpensive usually, but they almost all need work.

    On the rear brakes that bottom adjuster slid back and forth.
    **** make sure you have BOTH retaining clips on the backside of the adjuster **
    If one or both are missing you will have a low pedal and will have to pump the petal a few times to stop .

    Daddy always said they stopped making trucks when they didn't have vent windows.

      Man, I agree. The old "wasp catcher" works wonders on a hot day.

    Nice little truck...they are increasing in value. She cleaned very nicely. Cruisin' with the "AM Rock" radio I see. Was that Momma in the left seat?

    • @ProjectTimeGarage
      @ProjectTimeGarage  Před měsícem

      Yeah, Momma was filming the adventure for me. And yep, that's the factory AM radio with the factory speaker. Still works and sounds decent too!

    I had a '68 521. It had an L20 and a 280z 5 speed shoehorned into it. I have a set of the the really hard to get inner wheel bearings for it. Had to pick them up out of Australia when I did the kingpins on it. Let me know if you plan on doing any work to the front bearings and I will try to dig them out of wherever they ended up.

    I think the lower adjuster is missing the spring retaining clips? - edit: never mind, you said you had the clips inserted? I will say, it looks like you have a rear main seal leak lol - time to pop that transmission off "real quick"

    • @ProjectTimeGarage
      @ProjectTimeGarage  Před měsícem

      Yeah, the adjuster clips are still a bit of a mystery to me, even though I have the factory Datsun service manual. It just tells you that they exist with no clear indicator to what they do or exactly how they go. Yeah, I do have a rear main leak. That's another video I think.

    Am I the only one getting sick of parts not fitting? I bought a new key switch for my nephews Suzuki King Quad 300 and wouldn't you know it, it did not fit in opening and it did not have the second notch for headlight function, so I took the key tumbler out of the new switch and put it in the old switch.

      This is one of the biggest issues in the automotive world right now. I experience it almost weekly now.
