You dont need to do that. No reason to tear it up. Press the start button for 10 seconds. After that put your foot on the brake and it will release out of park with the engine off.
That’s if the car has power. Thanks though.
Tim Hughes I tried that and didn’t work for me but I didn’t want to tear up my front console either

What to do if u have this problem but the shifter is moving out of park it’s the gear not moving …car cranks and all
It could be possible that the linkage is disconnected, which is why the shifter is moving but not the transmission. If you put the vehicle in reverse, neutral, or drive on the vehicle doesn’t move there’s a chance the cable is disconnected either on the Transmission side or on the shifter side

What about if I shifter my car to park when I got home and shut it off and then realized the cars stuck in neutral. The shifter is now stuck in park.
If you put it in park it should go back into park unless there a problem with the shifter cable.
So it happened to me and thank for the tip, what's the issue with car is it a big problem???
Could be something simple. Sometimes it can be a blown fuse, a bad brake pedal switch or the electronic motor on the shifter goes bad.

Hello, we tried doing this we even disconnected the battery but the computer still says it's in recerse and won't let it go to any gear or turn on. What else can we do?
Maybe the shifter cable is disconnected. You’d have to check both ends of the cable. One end is on the shifter and the other is on the transmission.
There's a way easier way to do this. If you unclip around the boot of the shifter which is fairly simple with a plastic tool. Under the boot when you slide it off you'll see there's a little hole with a white button deep inside of it so you just stick a pin or something inside of it and that pushes that little round white thing he's moving around out and it shifts. No need to take anything off except the boot of the shifter. Took me about 30 seconds.

If it’s not shifting into park there could be a different issue. Check the cable on the transmission and see if there’s anything blocking it from going forward into park
Where is that cable at
The cable connects from the shifter to the transmission. If you can see it on the transmission have someone shift the gear selector from inside while you look on the transmission and see if the cable itself is moving. It’s possible that the bushing on the end of the cable is worn out and it popped off the shifter lever on the transmission.

Car is stuck in neutral on the display and shifter keeps getting stuck in park. I pulled the release and freed the shifter but the shifter keeps sticking in park and displaying neutral.. wtf
If the display is showing “N” but the shifter is in park does the vehicle move? When you move the shifter does the car move?
@@TowMan127 vehicle can be moved just not under is own power. I believe it’s the same for the available gears when the shifter is released. Because it’s displaying N no matter what?
I believe the car is actually stuck in neutral but shifter is locking up near the parking position
@@GeneralDravus00 anytime the shifter goes into park it will lock automatically. It might be the shifter cable broke or popped off the shifter linkage. Look on the transmission and see if it’s connected. Might be easier with 2 people. Look at the transmission and have someone shift it from park to drive and see if the cable is moving. Sometimes the end of the cable will pop off when they are worn out.
