    Thank you for this. I’m wiring a 30x40 shop. I ended up preferring diagonal cutters. But I would have never thought about the “Red Devils” and they definitely gave me piece of mind. My first couple of ends the armor was cutting into the wire when bending and I was about to start taping them but decided to look up some tips. Quick helpful video bro!

    I just started working for some guy. He picked me up from a agency I was working for. Saw me working hard and he needed a hand. I've now been working for him for.2 months and showing me soo.much!!! It's incredible work and once I finish with him I'm.going to electrical school!!

      That’s awesome! find your local electrical union or independent electrical contractors association to complete an apprenticeship. That way you can work and go to school for free!

    The technical term, I believe, is "Anti Short Bushing".
    Locally called "Redheads"

    Note: Do not use the set-screw type of connectors with aluminum jacket MC because they will crush it.

    Insulating plastic bushings, I guess. Red Devils are a decent nickname

    The red anti short bushings are not required to be used on "MC" cable by the NEC, U.L. , nor the manufacturers. Armored Cable yes, MC Cable no.

    Can a bundle of MC cable be supported on wall mounted J Hooks?

    • @MCConstructionTeacher
      @MCConstructionTeacher  Před 2 lety

      Yes and no… If it is exposed on a wall below the ceiling grid then no. As long as it not exposed you should be fine unless you have a crazy inspector

    Can I surface mount MC cable?

    • @TaylorMMontgomery
      @TaylorMMontgomery Před rokem

      Yep you can, you just have to support it in shorter increments. It actually works well exposed in indoor conditions in garages and open ceiling applications. Just remember mc is not for outdoor damp conditions

    Anti shorts. Red Devils are called anti shorts. I personally hate em. The usually fall out anyway. I see why contractors want them. Too many assholes don’t clean up their wire sheathing and screw down the set screw super tight bc they’re using their drill motor vs doing it by hand. But I never use em. I clean up my connections and don’t over tight. Never once had a problem in 20 yrs.

      The Mike Holt site explains the redheads are not needed if the MC is terminated with a connector approved by the manufacturer for MC.

      If there is “mis-information” in this tutorial you should elaborate for the sake of the people here to learn.
      This looked like a very well done tutorial to me. Thank you for putting out there Mr. MC

      @@MCConstructionTeacher I agree with you. I think he's about as helpful as OSHA. What I saw is no gloves, no eyes, operating a sawzall with your thumb on the blade, one handed. As far as code violations, idk. Maybe the ground insulation twisted together?
