- Medieval Dynasty is an amazing colony management, survival, crafting, RPG with a beautiful world, compelling story, and a sense of humor. It is a joy to play, but can be daunting at first, as there are many systems and mechanics to learn. In this complete beginners guide to Medieval Dynasty, I will explain to you the basics from the ground up by starting a brand new character so you can watch and even play along. I will explain the controls, the UI, the mechanics, how to build, quest, navigate the map, and survive. I detail my thought process, sharing tips and tricks along the way but I spoil nothing about the game or the story. Trees always did damage in this game. Less so as direct fall damage, but if you stand too close to the stump when chopping it down, the back kick of the falling tree will uppercut you into oblivion

Regarding season length, it really doesn't matter how long you set the days above 3. Even if you set 30 days, after 3 days you can sleep and advance to the next season when ever you want.
Yes, this is such a great feature! Good point that you can set it for a super long time and just move ahead when you are ready. 10 worked well in this guide as I had to explain a lot, but I could have done it in 8, I think. 3 is just too short at the start I feel, but I guess ymmv haha
I took your advice and began a new save using 10 day seasons and it has vastly improved my experience of the game. I now feel as though the year is manageable and I can complete all the requests without neglecting my farm or my new wife. Its autumn first year in my game and we are already expecting our heir! In past games, during early access it took me around three years to find time to get a wife! Thanks for all your great tips, Im subbed and going to watch everything you post on this game. 😊
Oh fantastic! Yeah, the 3 day seasons are brutal. I love 10 days to do everything I like! Wow--I still haven't started a family yet, so maybe it's time for Racimir to find a wife haha
48:30 One thing to remember: trees grow back from the stump, so if you remove the stump, tree will not grow back. Actually I don't know if in the game actually exists any mechanics for trees to be replanted by player.
TRICK: if you want to built a building very close to the maple tree but blueprint is red - cut the tree but leave the stump, build whatever you wanted to put there and voila! After three years tree grows back.
TIP: first thing I ever do before actually moving anywhere from starting point, I go to Denisa, make as many stone knives as it is needed to get enough money to buy biggest backpack and biggest pouch from local textile trader - less then a thousand, I believe - easy to do. Twenty plus ten extra kilograms (30kg) of load, respectively, that character can carry (actually doubles up capacity of inventory) IS A GAME CHANGER and A MUST from the very beginning.
I love this tip about the backpack and pouch! Great idea! Carry capacity is brutal early game with all the logs you need. Thanks for explaining about how to build around trees haha

I just started and found this game yesterday, my first mistake was definitely not checking the settings but I haven’t done too much to where I can’t reset and start from scratch and change when I get more comfortable and set up! I absolutely most definitely cackled when you said the trees would be fine because I made the same mistake and got wacked by a tree I had cut down😂so that was super relatable. I love that you also went in the opposite direction I chose to start at, it gives an eye opener to which side has more of what resources for sure

39:43 - Yeah, you can take damage from getting hit by a tree you chop down. It happened to me when I was building my first house... But it's not a lot of damage.

maybe it depends on the size of a tree? Had a maple fall on me with almost full health and died.
I was chopping a bunch down at once before logging it. I went to a big maple, it got hung on another tree and slid right into me like swat busting a door. It killed me!!! So sad, thankfully it had just autosaved a minute before😅
I have the game since early access and was a lot of fun. Only played with 3 days seasons and the first winter I had to indeed spend all the time inside after crafting enough food and only running out shortly to the river to drink water and then back in.
You can "hack" the carry limit issue (in case it hasn't been patched out) because at midnight at season's end you'd automatically get teleported back home and be forced to sleep. All other nights you can stay up all night long if you want. So I'd spend the 3rd day chopping down and gathering trees and made sure to have everything in my inventory before midnight. I couldn't move at all anymore, but after waiting for the time to pass, I'd get teleported in my house with over 120-150 logs, branches etc

Only one feature missing in this game. That is being able to slow down the day and night cycle. I would like to have longer days and nights

@@DrIncompetenton my friends old ark server it was set so that day and night was in actual time. So when it was light out in real life it was light in the game and when it was night time in real life the game was in night time. It was pretty awesome

I have such a wild schedule for work, I have all the dev type settings turned on so I can just hop in and not have to worry about grinding too hard to enjoy it briefly when I find the time
I am so happy that they had different options for “alternate control” buttons!! I use “alternate #2”.
Yes! It's so nice when they give you options--there are certainly things I don't like about scheme 1.

Reed grows over night.
Use small plants for buffs -
Chicory for slowing down hunger,
Daisy for lowering water consumption,
Dandelion for lowering stamina depletion,
and so on.....

I got into this game for somewhat 20 hours now.
Micromanaging the production is the most difficult thing for me so far.
Best thing i learned on my own so far was.... there are backpacks and pouches in this game which so far atleast double your carry weight.

It is a complex game and managing the villagers can be a lot, but I think it gets easier once you understand the fundamentals. I hope you are having fun with the game!

So far, I love hunting in this game. If it’s wild life or wild humans, it’s ez progressing. Sometimes bandits drop exotics worth of 375 each wild.

I stopped pulling all-nighters even at the beginning with my characters, because at one point, I ran head first into a boar and it killed me 🤣. Trying to fight a boar when it's dark all around you is not fun. Avoiding them is also hard for me. I can't see them and since I have single-sided deafness and don't have spatial hearing, even when I hear the boar, I have absolutely no idea where it is 🤣
Boars are LETHAL in this game haha ;) I can barely kill them in the day! haha

I usually set a fifteen day season. Plenty of time to complete the first quest without being rushed. I am also able to do some exploring. Really enjoying this game.

I was playing along with this video, set the days up and everything. I got around to cutting trees and was IMMEDIATELY almost killed by my falling tree. And then you said 'Don't worry, you can't be crushed by your own trees' and it cracked me up with the timing. I'm guessing they updated it, because you can definitely be hit by those trees and hurt pretty badly.

I just discovered this game, and subsequently this channel today. These are great tips! One thing I did miss that I haven't been able to suss out in my own game. When you have items in the quick menu, like an axe, a shovel, a spear, etc - how do you access that quick menu? I've literally been going into the inventory and putting everything in the first slot in order to switch from axe to hammer and it's a giant pain.
Go to your inventory, then select the tool and equip it, from there you can put it on slot 1-8 of the quick menu. At least, this is how it works for me on PC using a controller!
@@DrIncompetent I've totally filled the slots, but I can't figure out how you bring up that menu where you can grab the correct tool. It looks like a wheel on the screen and you've pointed to the axe or hammer, etc?

When first exploring i cut down trees and left the stump so I would not go thru same patch of woods. Gets confusing.
Also while thinking about it…if don’t say later 😇 teensy help-maple is best - gives 4 logs. Spruce and birch only give 3. 😊

Great idea on the stumps! Yeah, I always feel cheated with the spruce trees and their log output, but I like to clear space for my village, so it goes ;)
I was really trying to remember to comment that something must have changed about the trees killing you since you uploaded. Little did i know i was in for a real treat lol.
Haha, they sure can! Trees and wolves are the number one killers of medieval city planners... haha
Quickly like to tell people in your season does not change in the game even if you tell it to and you wait till the next season, I don’t know what it is but it would not do it for my game so you have to choose it at the beginning at least now I won’t change in the game It’s just one of those glitches. I just want to tell that to everybody.

My default game settings are usually:
Season length - 30 (After 3 days we can sleep to change season so why not?)
Build limit - 200
Unlimited Stamina - ON
Fast Crafting - ON (Is a must in my opinion)
XP Gain -150
Tech XP - 150

39:41 he doesn't know 😅. Just cut the tree and turn around facing away before it starts to fall. Turn your back on and see what happens. I've had that happened through Mass logging and in return, Getting my head busted in two or three times by two or three different trees at the same time😂. Chose to turn my back on em😂.

@DrIncompetent I'm pretty experienced with such games and dedicate at least 5 hours of testing a game. You could say something wrong with me because I gotta know what shape the box is that I've been given, so to speak lol. But it's just basic things like, Can I jump? How do I jump? Where can I jump? How far can I jump? Can I die? How can I die? Can I interact? What all can I interact with or what all can I rack with me. Is there layers? did they do a good job hiding the layers? Is there blemishes or mistakes in the movement of plants, trees, environments? It's a bad habit, I know. but I got into doing it So that if I know what the glitches or problems are with a game, then I can learn to deal with them like issues in real life. Yeah, I just learn to deal with them sometimes because they just are what they are and if you know what they are, then you can avoid them and they won't be a problem which makes games a 1000 times better.

I found your channel and love your guides… I have been craving a survival base building game so bad lately… I have Conan Exiles, The Forest, Green Hell, and Fallout 4 which I think has some of the best and most functional building elements to it but hate that your base is limited by a data cap essentially.
I have not really gotten into any of the game I just mentioned, however when I think about wanting to devote some serious time into building an empire I can not get this game out of my head. I am looking for a “next gen” experience (yes i know PS5 is current gen now haha) and i do have 1 MAJOR question about this game and that is…
Can I eventually build a Castle??!!
As much as I love the look and vibe of this game, if I can not build a custom castle… then i dont think I want to invest my time into it. I have so many other games that also have my interest and would rather wait for it to go on sale or when I get the other games experienced before jumping into this one. But! If i can build a castle… yeah I want that experience now haha

@@DrIncompetent no, what I mean is... is there castle panels and modules to the building system in this game that allows you to build a historically correct medieval castle? So far from your series all that I see is houses and huts from an early civilization of a farming community. If that is all this game is... that is fine! Still looks cool, but I am thinking its something else.

Just started playing and when i open the “craft” menu, all it shows are hands, and numbers 1-10 or so. I can’t figure out how to craft the axe!
You are looking at the quick tools menu--there is another button for crafting. RB I think? The latest update changed some of the default controls IIRC.
i hope one day i can make a castle in the game as it would make sense regarding the name of this game and knowing in endgame players have a lot of people under their 'command'.

I really like this game, but I just started playing it as a break from Divinity 2 like 4 days before Valhiem came to xbox. Now I have been all valhiem and still need to "finish" this game and Divinity 2. Just not enough time.

Open your inventory where you can see all of your items. You can sort the items to food only (the apple icon). Select a food and eat it! You can buy food in town, or gather some on the ground, or cook meat early game!
Just started today had 3 villagers and got mad bc i couldnt pick where to put my npcs but i found out
Haha, that happened to me too! They each have to have a house, which is kinda rough at first ;D I will be covering this in the next episode of this tutorial series :D

No wheelbarrows but you can get backpacks and satchels to help you carry more!

The game looks interesting but I don't believe I would enjoy micromanaging everyone and everything in a village. Can you hire someone to do that?
Good question! What's cool is you can actually just give them a job once and leave them alone largely, until you want to change what they are making. It's not as intense as other games imo

Well, they have some similarities with the inventory and such, but it's more a crafting/building/management game than an RPG like Skyrim.
I think they need to another town someplace south or east of Gastovia.

Btw you can indeed be hit by a tree and die. It always falls away from you by default but if you move into its path you will die.
