  • Deep Sea Aggregations Explained.
In the deep sea, going alone is rarely an option. The harsh environments of the deep ocean are an imposing challenge for a lone organism to face, as the dark conceals many dangers, while dazzling bioluminescence deceives unwitting prey. For this reason, deep sea animals tend not to spread out. Instead, wherever possible, they come together in their masses to create abundant patches of life in the lonely depths. Hotspots of biodiversity, in stark contrast with the otherwise barren stretch of darkness. Safety in numbers is a fool-proof survival strategy that increases their chances of finding food, evading predation, or having reproductive success in the endless blue. From vibrant coral gardens and deep sea scavenger communities, to expansive jellyfish blooms that cloud the ocean surface, these are the animal aggregations of the oceans.

Considering that they ignore _easily accessible_ information on certain animals whilst also ignoring comments correcting such inaccuracies... You'd be better off elsewhere.

As soon as I saw the science paper covering the largest deep sea colony ever recorded. I instantly thought about you and your channel and it's content and scientific coverage. They were mapping the ocean floor and then stumbled upon Seemingly never ending nest's of ice fish at the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean. Something scientists have never seen before. They have lots to learn about how the colony supports itself. These ice fish have clear blood appearently, they don't have hemoglobin in blood like we do appearently. It's facinating they each have their own circular nest, they think the female passes away after reproduction. Then the male guards the babies eggs.

The part with the sardines reminds me of this one poem from this book of ocean poems I read the heck out of when I was younger, it went something like this:
"Ripples of fear, the flash of a spear--evasive maneuvers, a marlin is here! Zig! Now Zag! Now Dart! Now swerve! A blur of sardines hurtles into the curve. They swivel around and go into a spin, then scatter like sparks when the hunter swoops in. A quicksilver blizzard! Look out below-"
It's been years and I still remember the whole thing! 😂 It's always amazing watching these creatures move!

a reminder that despite our efforts to make it smaller, the earth is still a vast and wild place, most of which we don't recognizance.
While our impact can be observed in places like the deepest reaches of the ocean, the potential for such environments to benefit us (in ways other than blind, destructive exploitation) has yet to be ascertained.
We live in an amazing house and we've so far only explored a few of the rooms, yet our actions have repercussions which threaten the foundations.
