    Of the literary awards that I follow, the Booker is the one that seems to align most with my personal tastes. Was so glad to see you mention some of my favorite winners (The Sense of an Ending; Girl, Woman, Other; Shuggie Bain). Also loved The Promise and the Wolf Hall trilogy. I'm trying to read all the winners, but of course there are hidden gems in the longlists too. So many books, so little time! Love your videos.

    • @GunpowderFictionPlot
      @GunpowderFictionPlot  Před rokem

      Thank you. I quite enjoyed The Promise, obviously not quite as much as the 13 I named, but it's still a really good book and I've shockingly never read Wolf Hall.
      There must be some great forgotten gems in the winners waiting for you to discover them. But I know it's so hard to balance New Release books and backlist books.

      I loved Girl Woman Other at the time of reading it, and I obviously still think it's great - but the more time passes the more I prefer Mr Loverman to it. It's a real shame she hadn't broken through when it was released, because I think it might be considered her best book if that were the case.

    I’ve only read 5 of these - Disgrace and A Fine Balance are high on my list of books I want to get to.
    Defo would not have included GWO 😱🤪
    I don’t think I’ve read 13 books that I actually liked from the Booker 😂😂

      I think I'm in love with your hatred of the Booker - maybe you should make an anti Booker dozen, the 13 most vomitworthy reads.

      I’m hoping this will be the year I find loads that I like 🤞🏻😬 if CGAS doesn’t make it I’m going to loose all faith though 😂

    Rooney ruined it.😕 This list was way too narrow and full of recency bias. Smug and pompous from start to finish. Oh well.

    Wonderful video! I love the idea of looking back at past long-listed books. One of my favourites is Lanny by Max Porter
