    I am used to military time so I use it on all my devices but I still read it in 12hr format when someone asks me for the time.😊

    • @fivetreehouses
      @fivetreehouses  Před měsícem +2

      is that how it is where youre from? or just like a personal preference thing

    • @WanderingPatata
      @WanderingPatata Před měsícem +4

      @@fivetreehouses It’s more like a personal preference. Idk why it’s just looks better for me and maybe because it’s easier to know if it’s am or pm. Or maybe because it challenges my brain unlike in 24hr format it’s just as it is no calculations or more thoughts.

      Lol it's kinda opposite for me, everyone here uses 24hr system so when I say what time it is to others I use that system too, but on all my devices it's set to 12hr system and if it's just myself I prefer saying that too, it's kinda more interesting than with plain 24hr system

    it was only a few months ago that I discovered americans call this military time like WHAT??
    You mean the normal fricking time? 😭This is genuinely so crazy to me lmao

  • @tokki2901
    @tokki2901 Před měsícem +22

    I genuinely thought that 24h format is globally used, I didnt know there are people that dont use it (and dont like it).
    Especially because learning how to read clock actually was a basic math lesson in elementary school (at least in my country, way back when I was a wee child), and if I couldnt read 24h format, 12h format, and analog clock, we couldn't get into next grade.
    But maybe language barrier plays into my case too, considering AM or PM is not used here because its foreign terms. We basically need to say "It's 5 in the evening" rather than saying "5PM" so it's way easier to just say "17.00".
    Although when used in real life conversation, we rarely say "its seventeen" we just say "its five", but in text we almost always use 24h format. So I was confused that Hex hated it that much, I thought its already a muscle memory to everyone how to read 24h format in a snap lmao.

    i like military time, but mostly reading it. i would still say the time normally. to me military time easily lets me know if it's morning or afternoon just based on the first few digits. i also kinda like how it looks. idk, seeing the number 20 something on the clock kinda looks nice to me lol

    • @fivetreehouses
      @fivetreehouses  Před měsícem +1

      is there like any practical reason of using it? like what would be the advantage of it? (genuinely asking btw, im curious)

    • @Thesmus
      @Thesmus Před měsícem +2

      @@fivetreehouses i'm not really sure, maybe cause it avoids confusion? like without the am or pm, you can't exactly tell when is 7:00, compared if we say 19:00. probably something like that, i guess.
      also i think really helpful when you want to do a quick look. with military time, i can both tell whether it's morning or afternoon and also what time with just the first two digits, so just a quick glance and i can already tell the time. with the normal clock, i have to pay a bit more time otherwise i might misread am as pm or vice versa. there are also some clocks that have tiny am/pm signs that makes it even harder to tell the time exactly.

      Genuine question, do people who use 24 hour clocks only use digital clocks? Even for watches, y’all use digital clocks?

    • @Thesmus
      @Thesmus Před měsícem

      @@literallyjustme3335 i don't use wrist watches anymore, but back then i did use the military settings. our house is using standard analog clock.
      actually, my phone and laptop are in analog too, huh. i forgot why. either i wasn't sure where to change it back then or just didn't bother too much
      welp, changed my phone right now to military cause why not lol might also change my laptop too
      well that's just me. i really only used military cause i kinda found it amusing, really lol

    It took me while to understand what they where talking about because in France there's no "am or pm" time, the "military clock" is just normal here so i had to remember it wasn't the case everywhere 😭 lmao foreigner moment

      @chib_bibi Před měsícem +2

      omg fellow french Niji viewer coucou!!
      I also never understood that debate, but more so because I know people who kinda do the "am/pm" thing in French by saying "9h du soir" "6h du matin" so I assumed both coexisted and I didn't know some countries only had one or the other lmaoo

    • @Roboward_VT
      @Roboward_VT Před měsícem +1

      @chib_bibi Omg Coucou !! 🥐
      Oh that's true, we kinda say that but it's more of a way of speaking than an actual defined way to tell the time, like it's less formal if it make sense ? Nobody would say "9h23 du soir" for exemple it would just be weird, it's mostly only used for a time O'clock or maybe even more rarely with "et quart", "et demie", or "moins-le-quart" instead of "15", "30" or "45". But yeah i feel the same, i didn't knew and didn't realised it was a thing before actually thinking about it :')
      I wonder why it is that way tho ? What makes it's different from a country to another.

    • @chib_bibi
      @chib_bibi Před měsícem

      @Roboward_VT Yeah, true! It's definitely a more casual, informal way of saying time, and even then, it only works when rounding the time.
      But yeah, I'm also wondering now why these two systems exist... in the USA's case, I'd just say it's to be contrarians as they usually are haha

    I don't think the whole 24 hr format is commonly used in my country. But little me thought it was sooooo cool that I practiced reading jt and now use it on my phones and what not. It's just so easy to read and you dont have to use am pm

    for me is the opposite, 12hrs clock don't do it for me 😢
    24hr or military time as they say is the most used here, I grew up using this type of clock reading and its so much easier to tell the time too.
    as of right now is 23:58
    but only sometimes I say to people "ah right now It's fourteen and five"
    we just read the time as 24hrs but answer as normal 12hr
