Very good discussion here. I find it strange that the people who are most vocally critical of the classic lifts, they often can’t do them well, and they don’t coach them well either. I have yet to meet someone who could snatch 150% of their body weight and thinks that the classic lifts are somehow inferior or unnecessary. And when people argue that they’re too hard to teach, well, maybe you shouldn’t be coaching. It’s much harder to teach some thing like polevault or discus. If we can coach those types of movements, certainly can teach someone to do a power clean.
First to say that this was a very good session of discussion. Thankyou Will.
I use a standard 20% BW for my RFD training in order to maximise true triple extension, with standardised hurdles of course.
Agreed!! Very sound arguments. 🐴
They really said
How do we do hurdle hop jumping if we don’t have hurdles?
Just jump even if you don’t have hurdles was an “innovative idea”
Unreal
Hey Will, I really enjoyed the video. I recently started doing clean pulls to improve my triple extension power and rate of force development. I am trying to increase my jumping height and was wondering what weights I should be using. Should I go heavy or lighter?
I'd recommend you go heavy
Alr, thank you
I think even badly performed olympic lifts DO still give you a benefit as long as the technique is not injurious
Weak arguments. There are hundreds of Olympic lifters who cover a wide range of body types and heights, you can just pull out the 0.0001% of the population with Kevin Durant in your argument.
