Tudor Black Bay GMT: First Impressions, Macro & Buying Experience

- Hi guys! I am SO sorry for the delay on this video, but we’re finally going to be checking out the Tudor Black Bay GMT that I bought late last year and subsequently took traveling across the US East Coast during the holidays.

I bought my BB GMT almost one year ago and I'm really happy with it. The accuracy is impressive, great finish and quality, fits perfectly on my 18 inches wrist and everything works as should be, I love it. Great video and enjoy your BB GMT.

Well I can tell you Tudor’s straps don’t fit my 8” wrist but the bracelet fits perfectly when adjusted.
Ugh, it’s good videos like this one that make me want spend my Rolex savings and get the Tudor GMT. Love the Range Rover analogy! So true man.
I have two things I’d think about if I were you (not knowing you beyond this comment LOL), see below…
First, if you can spare $4K from your Rolex savings, buy the GMT. If you don’t end up wearing it you can sell it for nearly what you paid down the line. And I anticipate even more price increases down the line so definitely worth getting while it’s still around $4K.
Second, if this is your first Hans Wilsdorf product and you would ideally like to buy your Rolex new from an AD in the future, many dealers can and will get you a Rolex much more quickly if you have an established relationship with them having purchased a Tudor first. Meaning, if they end up getting one of the thing you’re looking for, they’re going to give that to the person who already has a history with the company and them. That was partly why I bought the Tudor, so I could establish my relationship with them and be able to get my Datejust and a GMT Master II at some point.

This is the perfect watch. It looks outstanding on both the steel bracelet and the leather band. Note--when wearing the leather strap, go with the Tudor band and the Tudor shield clasp is very sharp.

Thank you for this review. You views about Tudor is spot on. I expected it to be a lower quality compromise but it is none of that at all. Agree with your observations on the state of watch collecting (especially for Rolex). There are probably hundreds of Rolexes being hoarded in private collections without ever seeing light of day because they are right now being kept like gold bars for value-inflation rather than as watches. It's a sad state.

If you like the looks of the Tudor over the Rolex, and one is one third the price with equal precision and quality than the other....the answer is obvious. In Rolex you are paying the advertising, the sponsorship and yes..the fame. But..honestly I don´t think the Tudor factory is going to compromise on purpose their manufacturing processes and quality just to be less expensive than Rolex....difference in price is explained by marketing expenses, ridiculous hype, desire and scarcity. Twenty years from now, the Tudor GMT will be a collector’s piece just by the fact that it somehow managed to "dent the famous crown".

That’s a great idea! I will definitely try to get around to doing that! The only ones I’ve really ever sold or gotten rid of are mostly the cheap Seikos I love to buy and try; all the luxury and prestige watches (Longines and above) I buy with the intent to keep as lifetime pieces so they’re all still with me!
This is the watch which will go crazy in 20 years when the bezel fades. For now , enjoy the first 20 years of wearing without the need to worry like rolex lol
Oh it will look gorgeous. That's why I can't make myself buy a seamaster instead. It seems much more logical as it's a "better" watch with a better movement and better materials. But it will never fetch above retail nor hold any value in the eyes of a collector as something special. That's why I'll stick to Seiko reissues, Doxas, Tudor and hopefully soon a Rolex SD or DJ Wimbledon. I like Sinn also.
Funny I was just studying this piece last night and decided for this to be my next purchase!
It’s a fabulous watch! I’d buy soon if you can, it was part of Rolex’s price increase right after I bought mine and given everything going on in Europe, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have at least more this year, especially since the early 22 increase was small (+$125).

@@influensiiirphilippines9679 Oh not at all, it’s 41mm where the King Samurai is 43 I believe. The Tudor is chunky in the same way as the Samurai though because of the tall, square case. But obviously at 8x the price, the Tudor is far more refined and so that helps too.
Buy it, it's an awesome and excellent watch.

Have you tried the new Black Bay Pro? It’s the same GMT function but in a 40mm size. The BB 58 is also a really nice size too.
With the release of the PRO, and new Longines Spirit Zulu, do you regret your purchase?
Not for one second. The iconic Pepsi bezel was the big thing for me here. The Pro also has a faux patina treatment on it (beige lume and hands) that I really don’t care for. I get that it’s to enhance the “vintage” look but I think it makes it look old versus classic like this GMT with its perfectly crisp white hands and indices. I also bought my GMT before the price increase which means that I paid the same for this as the BB Pro is going for now, and the Pro is the entry level GMT with this one above it in the range.
With all that said, I do really like the Zulu and may have to pick one of those up as well as it’s SO different than this.
The real alternative to this Tudor for me would be a Grand Seiko GMT, though. Cheers!!
@@joshswatches interesting, that the alternative would be the GS GMT, it's a bit of a chunky monkey. To each their own.
I was talking about the new series below which are 40mm and 14.7 thick, so not chunky at all, they’re a REALLY nice size and have a beautiful ceramic bezel plus Spring Drive.

Do you see Tudor watches increasing in re-sale value? Do you think the Tudor GMT, Harrods or Black & White Chronograph will be of decent value…I’m really looking at a GMT
I think there’s a good chance that they will, Tudors generally hold their value well though keep in mind for best resale it has to be in pristine condition which to me negates the purpose of buying a watch in the first place. I’d also buy soon if you can, the luxury industry as a whole is doing price increases far more regularly and at much higher intervals. Some Rolex models went up over 30% at the beginning of this year. The Tudor went up by $125 since I bought mine last year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another one by the end of the year because of everything going on in the world right now. This is a GREAT watch and I’d definitely go for it if you like it. You might also look at Grand Seiko as well, though they’ll be about $2K more.
People say these are piss poor Rolex? Should I go with a breitling
I strongly disagree with that sentiment. It’s not a Rolex but you’re paying less than half the price compared to a GMT Master II. If you’re okay with Breitling quality you’ll be fine with a Tudor. Keep in mind that Breitling doesn’t hold its value nearly as well as this will either.

I think I’d recommend doing a lot more research on watches in general-don’t just listen to what other people say. Go in and see everything in person and experience the brands. Omega is great, they’ve got a lot of wonderful pieces, I have two and love them. Grand Seiko should also be on your list.
