  • Have you been to the basement of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum? I got to go where few have ventured, and there was one particular car that caught my eye. Can you guess which one it was? You don’t have to… just watch.

I had the chance to take the IMS tour for the 1st time back in January. It awakened something that I haven’t felt since I was a kid watching my dad race dirt late models…That certain mystique and feeling like it’s larger than life, if you get my meaning.
Within 15 minutes of leaving the track on that cold day, I bought tickets to my 1st Indy 500. What a weekend this is about to be.

I did the tour before the race in 93' left a case of warm beer underneath and track worker aaid I'll keep a special eye on that, came out and my shit was gone, went directly to the fkn snake pit in turn 1 and found my cooler, approached a dude in a really short lawn chair and was gonna kick em in the teeth (cooler was in front of their car) i hesitated, and dudes had nothin to do with it and replaced my beer and ice for the race i loved the snake pit, the new snake pit is a joke lol

I've been in the basement.... in June of 2009. A small group of my friends and I were granted a visit. After we spent time in the museum looking at all the cars, we were ushered into a hall way, given specific instructions that we could look around as long as we liked, that no photography was allowed, not to touch anything, and no photos at all. They took us down a staircase into a dark room, reminded us of the rules, we walked through the double doors, and stood there until the lights were flipped on. Speechless, nobody spoke out loud, just walked around in awe. The cars there, amazing...... pace cars, the model T's of all types, the Jaguar that was used by (I think) Clark Gable. Smoke's old go-kart, the Bentley, pre-war Lincolns and Cadillacs, stunning cars.

Me too, I was a kid racing sprint cars at the time and qualifying for the Daytona 500 happens and I'm like who is Tony Stewart and my dad filled me in and I was a smoke fan from that point on, we were die hard Earnhardt fans and my dad stayed one but Tony was my man, at one point my mom knew a photographer that would get into victory Lane a lot and somehow he got a picture of me with my Sprint car with all my trophies I had won in my rookie year and gave it to Tony to sign well somehow the picture got put up in his desk in his fan club office and his mom was going through the desk like 2 years later and found the picture and ended up calling all my sponsors to eventually find our new phone number and then she called my mom that day and they talked for like 2 hours, Pam Boas is her name :) it was probably like 2004 2005 before I ever found out he was an Indy car champion just two years before he went into the cup series, what was crazy was I was a big Junior fan in the bush series and followed like every race and even those smoke ran I think the whole 98 season in the bush series I never heard of him then either, that outside pole run in his rookie 500 was what put him on the map for me

@@diychad7268 wow what a story. Tony Stewart is the Goat of his generation regarding racing in and winning races and championships in multiple series at a all time high level. He took versitality and winning to another level even winning a championship as a driver car owner and another with Kevin Harvick. It's just a damn shame he never won the Indy or Daytona 500. Hell knows it wasn't because he wasn't good enough. But he is the goat also because he raced in a time where he was the only consistent driver out the gate to take many wins and championships away from Hendrick. He rose to the challenge and beat two high class hall of famers at the highest level year in and year out over and over again win lose or draw and under different points systems too. Again speaking to his versitality. I think he's the greatest prodigy in racing probably ever.

They used to cover the front of the Coyote nose to hide from others what they were doing with the opening. @3:34 if you look at the nose, the configuration is different (more fiberglass cross bracing), so the nose and grill area was DEFINITELY an area to find downforce advantages with different designs.
