My first motorcycle was a 79 cx 500. Don’t know how I lived through the time I owned it. My nickname to this day is crash.
These are the coolest little bikes. The 500cc vtwin liquid will keep going and going. I bought it from a lady who rode cross country. If you can find a cx500 that's not cafe racered, like this.....buy it! Mines in the garage, had it for 25 years, got it for $550 at 16 years old. So versatile.
I had one of these Honda's the first they came out with a different gas tank. Your ride and the sound of that motor really opened up a lot of memories. Too bad I missed your auction. I am a late by a year or so. Great review. You made me think of my age......
I have an 81’ GL500. Same engine. Great running bike. Extremely reliable. Daily rider.
I have the exact same bike! Great ride. I just rebuilt the carbs on it.
I have one that has like a hundred and thirty-eight thousand miles on it and still gets up and goes without an issue everything works perfectly I've got a little bit of rest and some scratches but they're like old tractors so just keep going and going and going
@@rebeccamarchildon7926 Yep, hold on to it. The really clean ones are becoming harder to find these days.
Sure miss these CX Bikes.
У меня такой байк сх500с 1982г. цвет красный идеальное состояние!
I just picked up an 81 with 6614 miles the other day. Just needs a few things and she'll be on the road. I look forward to it being my first motorcycle!
Aside from the engine, these machines are actually run of the mill.
I just picked up an 81 custom just like this but red, love it
I've got the exact same bike, same color, I bought it with 12000 miles on it 11 years ago, it now has 59000 miles on it. The only maintenance done is an oil change every 3000 miles, new tires when they are worn, and coolant changes when needed. And a couple of choke cables. It runs great, has never left me stranded. I will have a hard time getting rid of it.
I paid $750 for it, delivered to my home.
Found one a few hours away from me with 8600 miles. Going to go look at it this weekend and hopefully bring it home with me.
Did you?
Love that sound!
I had a 1979 and it was aGreat bike!
I was 16 years old in 1981 my very first street bike was an 81 CX500 Deluxe
$2600 brand new
From March 3rd to November 31st I put 17500 miles on it
Beautiful bikes
That thing is so nice
How old did you have to be back in the USA to ride a 500 here in the UK you could only
have a 50cc "Slowped" ie a bike with pedals, as in a cycle. You had to Pass a test to get
anything above 250cc's. Then the Government took the limit down to 125cc and these
were restricted to 12bhp. I know by reading "Cycle" or "Cycle World" from the the USA.
That the "Entry Level" capacity was then 400cc's. They call it the land of the free" here
in the UK it is the "Land of the Oppressed" God Bless America!
@@garydunn3037 Hi as far as I know there were no and still are no restrictions on how big of a motorcycle you can purchase and ride
There were several dealerships in my area then and I just happened to wind up at the Honda dealer that day. I had been eyeballing the XS1100 special at the Yamaha dealer a couple days earlier
Probably a good thing my grandfather picked the honda shop that day. The CX500D was a great bike to cut my teeth on
Traded it that November for a new KZ550 and drove that for a year n a half and in spring of 83 traded that for a Yamaha 750 Seca when I had just turned 18
Thanks for stirring up some great memories from the past!
If I could only go back
You're missing the chrome leg guards? I have the same bike, just got it with 26k on it. Was in storage for years with new fluids except the carbs had gas in em. That was work, but fixed em right up. I've put 3k miles on it already in 2 months. It's a great city bike and the old timers love staring at it.
Great bile

Whatever, my CX is 42 years and still runs perfect. Over 200 miles on it.
My dad has that exact same model but in red

Alot of these have ignition and stator problems
Had the same exact bike, 1st bike. Definitely not a powerhouse though.

Do you have motorcycles made in the USSR or Russia in your Museum?
В вашем музее есть мотоциклы производства СССР или России?
I suspect candy limited maroon.
Hi. I live in Russia. I also have a dream to create a motorcycle Museum, but the direction will be more on motorcycles released in SSSR. Where is your Museum located?
Привет. Я живу в России. У меня есть тоже мечта создать мото музей, но направление будет больше на мотоциклы выпущенные в SSSR. Где находиться ваш музей?
This was going to be my first bike in 2006, but it needed A LOT of work. It was a 1982 model from what I remember. My dad wouldn't minded paying $900 for it to fix up, but it would've taken a while to do so. Guess we didn't have enough patience back then.
Do u still have the bike
What's the price??
5 hrs detail? Hm
Huh. They become tricycles here lmao
Needs 6th gear at least my c.x 500 d did
Yes when my speedo quit for a while 5500rpm was between 55mph and 60. Hard wobble over 80mph
GOD bless him but WOW he talks to much can't hear the bike like I wish I could, I need a Valium after that much talking lol
