I remember when our town centre was not closed in, and you had to walk up concrete steps to get to the upper floors. Unless you used the spiral ramp, that being said, our town centre had such a variety of shops back then, for people of all ages. Its such a shame that now, even though it is a much better place to walk around, most of the shops have long since gone, and we are left with phone shops and pound shops. Damn those Hypermarkets that are only accessible to those privileged enough to own a car. Or get two buses and brave the elements up at the Marina.
Every town has it's ugly side. Let's be fair. You could drive around London, Manchester, Liverpool --anywhere and find degredation and neglect. There's a lot more to the town than this. How about doing a drive aroundthe better aspects of the town--Yes they are there. I was born and raised here and I love it--Warts and all..! Thanks for posting this. When you spend time in London nobody will speak to you either on the tube bus train or street , every one is so suspicious - I have found every single person in Hartelpool to be absolutely amazing so open honest and generally really just lovely nice folk , yea I may see a different side however I love Hartelpool massively X

So what if we don't pronounce our H's, it's not a slur of the tounge it's because our language originates from Germany where they don't pronounce H's either.
Hartlepool is a dump and it getting worse more local business collapsing, crime rate out of roof yet barebones police, no hospital, and we pay crazy high council tax. The council too busy building new houses despite being 2000 empty houses in the town. Huge unemployment problem as there isn't any jobs in the town, ageing population, huge drug problems which has massively increased away from just a few herion addicts to alot of them and with cocaine and other addicts in the town and rehab centers were shut under Cameron's government, and think methadone will stop them reoffending. There's nothing for young people in the town currently there a group of about 30 youths stealing motorbikes and cars everynight around the town. Food bank has hundreds of people everyday and so many on the poverty line. But that what happens in a northen town under torys and a terrible council lead by Shane Moore and others who are getting huge wages just to fleece the town.
you should have driven up some of the streets and council estates with the volume up. You'd have captured all the dogs barking,alarms going off,houses with their front doors open and Dance music thumping loudly enough to wake the dead,kids booting footballs all over the place, quad bikes flying around all over place etc etc. If anyone is unsure about what this town is like just check out the house prices. It's a very unfreindly town indeed. You can feel a sense of tension as soon as you get off the train into church square.

have a strole round Bishop cuthbert and High Throston near the golf course..i love how most of the people who AREN'T from Hartlepool Say its full of "Scum" and Chavs... Them people are stereotypical to the max... everyplace in the UK, possibly in the world all have a part of town that isn't as nice as its others
I've been to LA many years ago, and when we landed and got our hire car, we ended up lost in a poor suburb asking for directions. It doesn't matter where you live, there will always be the "Haves" and the "Have-nots" its a sad fact of life. Even in Hollywood La La Land. USA.

Might of been knocked down but areas like Burbank street and Oxford road what where lovely streets are just the same now if not worse. Belle view is just the same west view road is an eye sore too.

Towns been ran by labour for years none of them give a rats arse about the north east sadly won't ever change.
And the Council still spend money.... not on what we need but THEY need,people arent considered ever, same as in every Village Town and City

there are a lot of detached houses yeah and it's a pretty small town of 90,000 people, it doesnt have sky scrapers or a big CBD, so no suburbs really
