what do you use for lines cause when I use a pencil it is hard to cover?

I use thin tape to mask of the general areas. Then I can peel the tape off to reveal a white outline of the space after I paint my watercolor background. the fine details, I typically use a grey watercolor pencil to lightly sketch the details in, that way it is easy to wash away the lines.
