Although i believe that the politically correct crowd would want this cartoon banned, the fact of the matter is that the Gopher Indians ALWAYS outsmarted the Colonel!
I recall the time the Colonel impressed the Gopher Indians into service with the U.S. Cavalry. At one point the Colonel gives Ruffle Feather an order, and Ruffle Feather responds in that hilariously unintelligible Gopher language. Colonel: What him say? Running Board: Him say You full of prunes. I saw that as an adult and busted out laughing, especially knowing that I never caught that joke as a boy.
Ikr? Lol. Makes you wonder if a lot of the cartoons we grew up with weren't partly aimed at adults...it seems we appreciated them more after we got older!
Exactly! It's amazing how many jokes I missed as a child watching "Batman" and "Bullwinkle" and "Fractured Fairy Tales" and "Go Go Gophers" among others. I recall watching these an adult and laughing out loud like I never did as a boy! It makes me wonder how many children grew up watching "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" and then watched the same episodes as adults and finally caught the humor.
Oh yeah. I used to watch it back in the 70s in the SF Bay Area. KBHK 44. I should've remembered. One of the few "Hollywood Indian" portrayals my parents weren't adverse to us kids watching, because the Gophers were always coming out on top.
When my brother and I were teenagers sleeping in until noon, we decided to get up early one Saturday morning just to see the cartoons because we missed them so much. We only did that once. It was hard enough getting up that early as a teenager when you're used to getting up so late.
We used ro sing this on commercial construction jobs as late as 2000 whenever we had a Super-intendent and Foreman who acted like the Colonel & his Sargent, pissed alot of em off.
DerGunzWald all I know is I enjoyed this type of cartoon as a kid and deputy dog and other lesser known cartoons, Tennessee Tuxedo, loved common cartoons also Flintstones, Speed Racer, I cant think of any greater example
"...But it could be a Gopher trick." "Nonsense, Sergeant! Army regulation 67425-78 clearly states: it is against the rules to play tricks on colonels."
No comments? Aren't there any 45-55 year olds in here who remember this and all the other crap we loved as kids??? You can't see any of this now...very non-PC, even though the 'Indians' always outsmarted the soldiers
I see what you are saying, but on the flip side the Gopher Indians always won and it is a pity that the Native American groups in real life did not drive out the European Settlers.
Wow that brings back chilhood memories big time. Use to love this cartoon and could remember the theme song and its why I searched it. Sadly some of the most entertaining and innocent cartoons of this era will never be seen by kids again as the PC crowd has deemed this and many others racist.
This show is probably on the top 10 list of cartoons that could not be remade for today's audience. Some of these shows had a lot of racial overtones. Great shows, but lots of stuff that would not fly today.
Bruce Villa Even as a kid,I knew the Indians got screwed over by the white man,but the show made fun of the Colonel and Sergeant. The Indians were smarter(and funnier).Too bad you can't make fun of anything or anybody anymore.
actually the PC crowd DOES love to make fun of white males, especially religious Christian types. I am practicing Cafeteria Catholic and I get made fun of for my beliefs. Ironically I CAN TAKE as well as DISH IT OUT! That is where the PC crowd fails; they can dish it out, but they sure as hell can't take it, especially if it's aimed at one of their "protected groups." Him say: "PC idiots needem to gettem over it!"
Dessert Tray There is a line between taking it out and dishing it out as long as the abuse is fair across the board. When a majority group singles out a very small minority group (American Indians) it is kind of racist and abusive especially when you look at the actual genocide done to this group of people (largely by Christians). I can give it out and take it, but you gotta pick and choose your battles more thoughtfully. An atheist abusing a Christian is different because the atheist is actually in the minority group.
I wanted to remember how Damaging this cartoons that all could enjoy These were the days for creativity Music Poetry Peace Brothers ! This Fleesing of our rights is going to backfire on all
Holy smokes! I had completely forgotten about this cartoon. Reccomendations were clutch for once. Usually it is since you watched two videos of a dog rolling over, you must be a super fan of that, here are 50 videos identical to that and in a week we will start re-reccommending ones you already watched.
I'm 24 and saw this cartoon on a Underdog DVD box set when I was 11 or 12. I didn't find it offensive. I'm sure SJWs probably would've liked it since the Gophers are the good guys.
Note that they're not doing what they do out of malice or to seek revenge or whatever, it's because they're _bored_ . The gophers are firmly the bad guys here, and I kinda like that.
at least their portrayed as the good guys here which is more than i can say for some other media from around this time that also had native americans in it
In the wake of Columbus Day and Thanksgiving "Two little Indians, all others gone Two little Indians, left all alone No buffalo to run, no tribe to lead"
Some, or many, people, would view this cartoon as not "politically correct," yet the Indians, Native Americans (whatever what term one uses) are victorious every time... "what'd he say?" "He say..." LOL!!!
My advice, make friends with someone from one of the Plains tribes. You'll eventually hear some great stories about my people meeting white people for the first time. (before all the unpleasantness)
At least it went there (although the cartoon itself was actually conceived and produced in New York rather than Hollywood, with animation farmed out to a studio in Mexico).
Completely and utterly politically incorrect. Indians living in teepees, making fun of someone with s speech impairment, inept authority figures... but you know something? WHO CARES!! It was innocent and fun and laughter and uncomplicated. Where did we go wrong?
Second voice definitely Paul Frees. Guy was everything from the Burghermeister Meisterburgher to the Ghost Host of the Haunted mansion ("Welcome Foolish Mortals...") to a reporter in George Pal's War of the Worlds ("Future History...If any. ")
And yet you’re here watching it! Ever watched a Quentin Tarantino movie? Quit being a sheep and actually go out and read what’s available, listen to the music being produced, watch the TV, movies and web series being produced instead of just listening to what conservative media hosts tell you what’s available.
As a Native American, I endorse gophers outsmarting foxes.
Those are coyotes.
Colonel kit coyote
Begging the Colonels pardon sir... But that is funny.
Coyotes actually.
@@yosefdemby8792 who cares, they’re entertaining
Whooopee dooopee! We have fun!!😆
Loved this show when I was a kid. Kind of an animated version of F Troop.
Yes your right.
Yep, that’s what I thought.
I think that's what it was based on
Definitely.
My husband said the same thing, then I read him your comment 😂
Yes!!!! I finally remembered enough to find this old cartoon! I loved this era of cartoons. This was Saturday mornings right here. So funny. Classic!
Although i believe that the politically correct crowd would want this cartoon banned, the fact of the matter is that the Gopher Indians ALWAYS outsmarted the Colonel!
Just like Speedy Gonzales always outsmarted Sylvester, the Gringo Pussy Cat.
Lol, I'm 1/4 Native American and I STILL love this show! ;D
I recall the time the Colonel impressed the Gopher Indians into service with the U.S. Cavalry. At one point the Colonel gives Ruffle Feather an order, and Ruffle Feather responds in that hilariously unintelligible Gopher language.

Very true-the gophers were definitely the heroes.
Your parents were very decent, humane people.

Sugary cereal with Saturday morning cartoons:

This show is so politically incorrect…
And I love it!
Me also
I must be gettin old.... but I miss the cartoons of old....
Awesome ! They sure knew how to make cartoons back then. Looks like a TNT barrel of Fun.
Always loved the one gopher using gibberish shit.
I used to love this cartoon over 45 years ago For some reason it mysteriously came to my mind today so I decided to google it. Wow 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Same here…I just started singing the song in my head?!! And here we are!!
Loved how Colonel Kit Coyote is a parody of Teddy Roosevelt!
Bully! Bully!
Lol!

WHy is this "insensitive" ? The "Indians" are smart, creative, and best the oppressors. Sounds like a Progressive's dream come true.

For the military. A Catch 22.

No, it’s actually Ruffle Feather who says it, he talks English, Running Board is the one who speaks, Gopher!!!,)

Certainly a classic :)
"what can they do for fun?!" dumumumumumuumu...(cracks me up all the time)
That's why Ruffled Feather's the best character

Thanks for posting this video. I've beel looking for it for years!

In the comic strip "Tumbleweeds" the indians were also smarter than the cavalry. The chief even called the cavalry leader "Goldilocks"!
Show this cartoon to the little millennials today and they'd have to run and find a safe place.

Watched the gopher Indian cartoons this is the best theme song for this cartoon i can still sing this to this day over 50yrs
Here comes the Colonel with his Sergeant!
Both a roaring and a charging.
I sing that whenever I want someone to go faster on the freeway.
I've always believed this cartoon was a spin off of the T.V. series F-Troop.
Here comes the Colonel with his Sergeant, both are roaing and are charging.

One of the reason why the Gopher Indians stay in Gopher Gulch was the Cavalry led by these coyotes. Not fun anywhere else.
